Well, we'll do whatever. i'll be starboard. He is george campbell. I don't think that works, but we're gonna go with it. You got your bomber jacket on today.

I think it's gonna be a hot show. ken, You think I don't want to speak it into existence, but all right might be. so let's talk about what we're here to do.

2Speaker 2
00:00:56.46 – 00:01:14.64

We kind of give them the intro, but you're the money guru and i'll call myself the work guru. Right, and they often go hand in hand. they do, and those are specific areas of expertise. But obviously there's a lot of relationship issues at george around money, but, uh, I am in the chair today. So if you got some, hey, I want to make more income.

00:01:14.80 – 00:01:31.42

00:01:31.96 – 00:01:39.00

Uh, I think you're ready to go. It's a good synopsis. So, without further ado, Let's go to the big apple. anthony is joining us there to get us started. anthony.

00:01:39.06 – 00:01:39.62

How can we help?

3Speaker 3
00:01:42.42 – 00:01:43.94

Are you with us? Hello, anthony?

2Speaker 2
00:01:44.84 – 00:01:50.04

Hello, there we go. All right, you're live, my friend. How can we help? Oh, wow. Thank you so much.

1Speaker 1
00:01:50.04 – 00:01:58.62

Um, so i'll make it very brief. So my wife and I, we are 27. We have a household income of 38 000. why? because she makes 38 000 and i'm unemployed.

00:01:58.98 – 00:02:11.60

Oh boy, I have a. yeah, I have a bachelor. We have an eight month old son. I have a bachelor's in psychology, as does she. I also have a master's in human computer interaction, But in 2024 it just feels like this job market is impossible.

00:02:11.60 – 00:02:27.72

I've been applying for jobs for months and i've had no luck. I you know, I tweak my resume to cater to each job specifically and still nothing. So my question is what can I do? because we do have a lot of student loan debt close to six figures in student loan debt and Um, we gotta take care of that. Yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:02:28.18 – 00:02:46.58

Okay, so let's talk about the short term and then then we'll answer that direct question. But while you are working to get the job in a specific field Um, I would, I would be working something, anything, two jobs. What would you say? are your skills? Well, no, hold on.

00:02:46.64 – 00:02:48.70

Hold on. Hold on. You're jumping ahead of me, george.

3Speaker 3
00:02:48.70 – 00:02:56.14

I'm, just confused by the human computer thing. We'll get through me off. That's uxui design. Okay, I got spooked. Yeah, uh, so.

2Speaker 2
00:02:56.52 – 00:03:06.18

What what I want you to be doing in this meantime, and i'm about ready to give you some advice on how we go Get this job, but you need to be working while you're trying to get a job. Does that make sense?

1Speaker 1
00:03:07.16 – 00:03:09.26

Yes, and i'm trying to do that too. Like for no.

2Speaker 2
00:03:10.00 – 00:03:23.80

No, you're not, You're not trying. You're telling me you can't go work. Uh, you can't work delivery, driving. You can't work at a big box store. You can't just go get what we would call an hourly wage job.

00:03:23.80 – 00:03:38.42

That doesn't require any kind of experience or, really honestly, any skill. But could you be making 15, 18, 20, 22, 25 an hour? Anthony, you can do that while we're trying to get into our professional field, true or false?

1Speaker 1
00:03:41.04 – 00:03:46.04

Well, yes, but i've been trying to apply for those jobs as well and they're rejecting me from them as well. Maybe they think i'm overqualified.

2Speaker 2
00:03:46.92 – 00:03:51.62

Well, how could you be overqualified? You don't even have a job, You're straight out of school.

1Speaker 1
00:03:52.64 – 00:03:57.26

I have a master's and I was a teacher for three years, and I was also a store manager at walgreens for three years.

2Speaker 2
00:03:57.26 – 00:04:02.40

Okay, so give me an example of an hourly job that you've tried to get and they and they're not giving it to you.

1Speaker 1
00:04:02.40 – 00:04:17.52

Give me a couple examples. I applied for you know, dominoes as a delivery driver rejected the same day. I applied for a manager at mcdonald's rejected the same day. I applied for, you know, help at walmart rejected within like a couple of days. I have other jobs that i've applied to.

00:04:17.52 – 00:04:33.72

that'll say um, under consideration, But no luck. and same thing with. i've tried doing uber as well, And there's a new law that passed in new york city, where they gave a set wage and because of this set wage It's literally impossible to sign into the app. Okay, like I can't even log in, are you?

2Speaker 2
00:04:34.28 – 00:04:36.64

I hate to ask this question, but it feels like I have to.

3Speaker 3
00:04:37.18 – 00:04:38.28

Are, are you?

2Speaker 2
00:04:38.88 – 00:04:51.42

Doing something weird or awkward, or acting in some way, or just a basic hourly job, which requires a pulse That you're not getting these jobs. What's going on in your mind? Or is this a mystery to you?

1Speaker 1
00:04:51.42 – 00:05:02.56

I mean, I do have autism. Maybe that's part of it. Okay, how does the autism affect you in interact? I don't. I don't feel like it affects me, but maybe others think i'm weird.

3Speaker 3
00:05:03.70 – 00:05:07.68

Have these all been in-person interviews? because you're saying I submit a resume and they reject me.

1Speaker 1
00:05:08.42 – 00:05:17.58

I mean I have had impression interviews before, but they just never go like i've had interviews Like within the last month or two and I just never got the job. So okay it throughout your connections.

2Speaker 2
00:05:18.10 – 00:05:29.84

Yeah, well, let me, I want to do. I want to dive in on the autism thing Throughout your your work history, because you have been employed before. I mean, how, how do? how does it affect you? What do people say about it?

00:05:29.92 – 00:05:40.40

Does it cause issues or is it minor? because I you present as it's a very minor thing, But I don't want to, I don't want to to assume that. so what's really going on there?

1Speaker 1
00:05:41.70 – 00:05:43.02

I couldn't tell you.

2Speaker 2
00:05:43.90 – 00:05:50.16

You're telling me. no one's ever. no one's ever told you Hey, you're. you come across this way. if they know you're autistic.

00:05:50.36 – 00:05:52.16

They don't tell you what, how it presents.

1Speaker 1
00:05:52.96 – 00:06:06.96

Uh, my wife does, because she's also, you know, she's a therapist. Okay, then how does it present? How does it present? I guess I I honestly, don't even know, honestly, like, okay, anthony, anthony. Listen, yes, anthony,

2Speaker 2
00:06:06.96 – 00:06:13.72

Listen, you just got done telling me that your wife tells you how it comes across, And so when I ask you to tell me what she says, you tell me you don't know.

1Speaker 1
00:06:16.20 – 00:06:26.52

She'll just say that well, her sister's actually autistic as well. So she says that on a scale what she didn't give me specific answers, But she'll say on a scale of one to ten. Apparently i'm a nine. That's what she says specifically.

2Speaker 2
00:06:27.54 – 00:06:48.06

I don't know what that means. But there's our problem. Okay, in all honesty, okay, I'm going to move forward here, But in all honesty, you need to sit down with your wife and say what does a nine mean? And, and specifically, what are my social challenges? You have to know how you're presenting, because you can overcome that.

00:06:48.06 – 00:06:55.02

And so let's move forward here. Which, what? what? if I could snap my fingers if george and I could just give you something today. What is that field?

00:06:55.40 – 00:07:03.18

What is the job, the career path? Is it the? uh, The technology and the design in that realm. Is that what you would love to have?

1Speaker 1
00:07:03.80 – 00:07:14.94

Well, I mean I would like to be a ux researcher for now, But i'm also three years away from finishing my phd in artificial intelligence, So, I don't know if I would transition into that later on. but okay, so that's what we. we want to go, tech, correct?

2Speaker 2
00:07:15.54 – 00:07:25.42

Right. All right. And so we've got the bachelors and we've got the masters. Here's the thing. you have got to stop playing the Resume lottery, where you're just filling out resumes.

00:07:26.16 – 00:07:35.80

I'm going to give you a book. It's a best-selling book number one best-selling book. I wrote called the proximity principle. Anthony, this is huge. Okay, This is all about personal connection.

00:07:35.98 – 00:07:50.66

And so you've got to know how your autism Is presenting to people and if, in fact, it throws them off. and if it does, how do we? overcome that? how do we? Uh, plan for that.

00:07:50.74 – 00:08:06.58

How do we take the elephant out of the room and go? Hey, i'm a high-functioning autistic person, because you are george, doesn't he present that way to you? Yeah, absolutely Okay, so, anthony, this is all about personal connections. We've got to talk with people who are in the industry. We've got to meet with people that are in the industry.

00:08:06.58 – 00:08:28.16

We got to repeat that and repeat that, and repeat that, because you've got the qualifications, certainly for entry level. But i'm going to tell you I think this starts with your wife, who's a therapist, Helping you see, maybe, what challenges that you are having to overcome in all these interviews. Self-awareness is the prescription that i'm writing for you here. Anthony. Hang on the line.

00:08:28.16 – 00:08:41.98

We'll get you the proximity principle. Keep your chin up. But listen, uh, you are differently abled. You're gonna have to start to own that. step into that, and you can Provide so much because you are really really talented.

00:08:42.18 – 00:08:45.20

Thanks for the call. We'll be right back. This is the ramsay show.

Let's, uh, get back to the phones. We're going to go to canada. Calgary is where we are. Gerald is there. Gerald.

00:11:23.42 – 00:11:24.22

How can we help today?

1Speaker 1
00:11:25.66 – 00:11:38.24

Hi, thanks for taking my call. Sure. What's up? Yeah, i've been listening to the show for about a year and I just had a question regarding a A large financial purchase that I made about a year ago. Okay, A little bit of background.

00:11:38.78 – 00:12:17.66

Uh, my wife and I were going through a really difficult time in our marriage at the time, which kind of, I guess, culminated in me having a, I guess, a near um mental breakdown. there was some um Just some, I guess some Emotional, um unfaithfulness from years years ago. that kind of came to light And I was, I was in pretty bad, bad place, uh, we've been married for about 22 years and um Went out and bought a three hundred thousand dollar boat. So i'm just wow, we're. yeah, we're in a, we're in a better, we're.

00:12:17.66 – 00:12:31.86

we've gone through, been in therapy and Uh, we're, our marriage is is healing and we're doing good there. but right now that i'm kind of a little more in my right mind, i'm just Wondering if I should continue on without us. it is something that my family and I enjoy together and.

2Speaker 2
00:12:31.86 – 00:12:36.70

Um, just wondering kind of. i'm assuming, gerald, that you financed it.

3Speaker 3
00:12:37.90 – 00:12:41.80

Uh, no, I paid cash for it. Oh, you pay cash. Wow. What's your household income?

1Speaker 1
00:12:43.20 – 00:13:05.02

Um, household income, um, i'm a power engineer. I make about 200 000 and then we have, uh, About 40 to 45 000 a year and uh, lease land revenue. You're a big saver, I guess, huh? Yeah, um, yeah, yeah, we always we put most of our retirement money into farmland. Like we farm, we've kind of sold the cows and then rented out all the land now, but

2Speaker 2
00:13:05.02 – 00:13:16.92

um, right, my point is you save for a long time to be able to to, uh, Uh, buy a boat in the tune of three hundred thousand dollars cash. So you're just a disciplined person by nature. Yes,

3Speaker 3
00:13:18.12 – 00:13:28.58

Yes, so the savings was intentional. the the purchase was impulsive. Yeah, you weren't planning to just blow 300 grand on a boat. what's the boat worth right now if you were to sell it?

1Speaker 1
00:13:29.46 – 00:13:30.98

Well, probably about 330.

00:13:31.46 – 00:13:40.16

. Um, talking to the dealer where it came from. It appreciated, I could probably get around. I could probably get around 320 to 330.. I put about 15 into it.

2Speaker 2
00:13:40.16 – 00:13:47.18

So to also you put some. you put some improvements in it that allowed it to appreciate Yeah. Wow. Do you guys have any debt?

3Speaker 3
00:13:48.38 – 00:13:50.58

Uh, we don't. no mortgage, nothing.

2Speaker 2
00:13:51.52 – 00:13:57.84

No, so which way were you leaning? you called us for our advice. which way were you leaning? what are you wrestling with on this?

1Speaker 1
00:13:58.20 – 00:14:15.58

well, I, I go back and forth, you know, I, I guess the The biggest thing for me is I feel guilty having a toy worth three hundred thousand, but like our, From a financial perspective. I don't Like. we've got about 150 000 in cash right now on our, Our land is worth about 2.5 million. Wow.

2Speaker 2
00:14:16.32 – 00:14:20.16

What's your retirement? What's your total retirement cash that you've got?

1Speaker 1
00:14:20.88 – 00:14:22.34

Well, that would be 150.

00:14:22.64 – 00:14:27.74

. Um, okay, thousand that i've got in 80 pfs and then we've got a 20 000 emergency fund.

2Speaker 2
00:14:27.74 – 00:14:30.10

So you're worth how much? total.

1Speaker 1
00:14:30.10 – 00:14:31.48

about 2.

00:14:31.48 – 00:14:35.10

8, um On the conservative side. What's your house worth?

00:14:36.90 – 00:14:44.42

Um, it's. it's a real piece property. It's 160 acres like. it's probably worth about 600 000. Okay, five, five hundred thousand.

00:14:44.58 – 00:14:45.88

Yeah, someone that's paid for as well.

2Speaker 2
00:14:46.78 – 00:14:54.72

Yes. Oh, my gosh. Well, first of all, let's just. I don't know, george, that he should be feeling guilt over this. I mean you've done very well.

3Speaker 3
00:14:54.72 – 00:15:14.00

You're right that this toy is a gigantic part of your world. and as far as our parameters go, you know, We say that everything with wheels, motors, should add up to no more than half of your annual income. So you are way above and outside of that parameter, and for that reason it might be a good idea to sell. But you've, you've done well, you've paid cash. You don't have debt.

00:15:14.00 – 00:15:23.58

This is not on fire, right? I feel like the fact you're calling in tells me you're like we should probably downgrade in boat. Yeah Yeah, could you do that? Could you sell it and buy a more reasonable boat?

1Speaker 1
00:15:25.46 – 00:15:37.64

Um for the like. for the purpose, I mean it is. it is a big boat, like it's for ocean fishing. so we um, like we with My dog, my two daughters and my wife, and I can stay on there, for you know, three, four days at a time, quite easily so.

00:15:39.36 – 00:15:42.44

It'd be tough to get a boat that would serve that same purpose for for less.

3Speaker 3
00:15:43.12 – 00:15:48.62

Um, but could you do that once a year and rent it and then downgrade to your normal kind of day-to-day boat?

1Speaker 1
00:15:49.78 – 00:15:59.42

oh, and that's kind of a The thing i'm thinking of, like we can sure go on a. you know, a charter is about 2000. You know, you can go on a lot of charters. Yeah, that's what I would do.

3Speaker 3
00:15:59.42 – 00:16:02.80

I I guess you could do five charters a year for the next 30 years.

2Speaker 2
00:16:02.80 – 00:16:08.44

So what do you wrestle with? because it feels like we gave you the answer you're looking for and now you're arguing with yourself. Yeah,

1Speaker 1
00:16:09.88 – 00:16:18.64

Um, am I right with? Yeah, you're right. Um, the thing i'm wrestling with is i've always been very, very driven like i'm very um.

00:16:20.54 – 00:16:42.54

Uh, If i'm not producing, I'm, I feel like i'm, i'm failing. so, and I think it goes back to even you know, just my childhood that work, work and hard work was the, Was kind of the measure of success and I I want to. I guess I want to be different with my, with my girls. I want to. I've got two grown kids and I, I see that and i'm already the drivenness and, uh,

2Speaker 2
00:16:43.14 – 00:16:46.42

How does this tie into the boat? How does this tie into the boat?

1Speaker 1
00:16:47.34 – 00:16:53.50

Well, with this boat i'm going to take two weeks off work and we've got to head to the coast for two weeks and shut her down and just relax and.

2Speaker 2
00:16:54.12 – 00:16:59.42

So you're thinking if you keep the boat, it forces you to not be so, uh, driven.

00:17:01.62 – 00:17:12.24

This is your counter argument to yourself. Yeah, okay. I'm going back to george. George said you could rent. you could, you could, you could charter and do the same.

00:17:12.24 – 00:17:14.52

relaxation still forces you to relax, right?

00:17:16.60 – 00:17:20.64

You're not making a very compelling case against yourself if i'm sitting here as the judge?

3Speaker 3
00:17:21.08 – 00:17:29.86

Yeah, it's not. it's the law. You're not a wise financial decision, because you could sell for 300 000 And you could charter five times a year for 30 years doing that. That's what I would do.

2Speaker 2
00:17:29.86 – 00:17:33.12

So that's what i'm telling you right now. I'd invest a big chunk of that, george.

3Speaker 3
00:17:33.12 – 00:17:52.78

What if he does? if you sold for 300, you bought a 50 000 boat instead. that gives you 250 000 profit, right? Yeah, yeah, but if you invested that, it would double every seven years if you got a 10 percent rate of return. So what i'm saying is hey, 14 years from now, we could have a million dollars on our hands or we could own a boat That's now worth $75,000.

1Speaker 1
00:17:53.38 – 00:17:59.50

And that's exactly the thing that's killing me. I figured that out, too, And it's that's this boat isn't a 300 000 boat.

2Speaker 2
00:17:59.50 – 00:18:09.34

It's a a million plus dollar bulletin. right, exactly an opportunity. Gerald. Listen, just just charter it. You're so good at saving, Like, sell this thing.

00:18:09.34 – 00:18:26.08

take a just a teeny bit of that cash, george, And plan out your next couple charters and just prove to yourself that you can have just as much fun with the family, But have a whole lot more cash. This is a no-brainer, george and I are telling you to sell it, and you guys have a flat tire on the investing side.

3Speaker 3
00:18:26.08 – 00:18:41.92

I love that you have this land. That's amazing. But I think it's wise to be diversified And you have done nothing as far as retirement planning. you're great savers, But if you channel that into investing, your money's going to have compound growth working for you instead of an asset that's going down in value.

1Speaker 1
00:18:42.84 – 00:18:53.38

We have since we sold the farm. Look we are. we do put uh, 3 500 a month, like the boss, I guess last year and a half we do. we do budget with every dollar like we're putting 3 500 a month into retirement.

2Speaker 2
00:18:53.38 – 00:19:08.58

Amazing. good, but here's the deal. We're telling you to pour some gas on the fire by selling this big old boat. You've got a false narrative that if I sell the boat, I can't continue to have all these great experiences and memories with the family, and george proved that wrong. uh, captain, george.

3Speaker 3
00:19:08.58 – 00:19:20.24

The old saying ken the best two days of a boater's life the day they buy the boat and the day they sell the boat. Oh, so you're saying the best day. Gerald's life is hopefully right around. It's right around the corner. $300,000 payday.

2Speaker 2
00:19:20.24 – 00:19:27.80

I'll take it. Oh, that's great. I'll teach george some maritime terms on the break and we'll be right back. This is the ramsay show.

2Speaker 2
00:22:00.02 – 00:22:07.96

Yeah, and we come out and say hi, take pictures, sign books the whole nine yards And uh, george does stupid human tricks every once in a while. I occasionally do balloon animals.

3Speaker 3
00:22:07.96 – 00:22:12.22

Okay, good, currently working on a water buffalo. The kids love that, not as easy as it looks.

2Speaker 2
00:22:12.22 – 00:22:19.38

I'll bet those horns have got to be tricky. Uh, all right. Let's get back to the phones. Garrett's joining us in salt lake city, utah. Garrett.

00:22:19.46 – 00:22:20.10

How can we help?

1Speaker 1
00:22:21.20 – 00:22:34.46

Hey, thanks for taking my call today. Sure. I have a question regarding speaking to my current employer regarding being paid or not for Participating in a business development program for the business.

2Speaker 2
00:22:35.24 – 00:22:38.36

You broke up. you're participating in a business what?

1Speaker 1
00:22:39.48 – 00:23:03.62

a business development program for a family business. Uh-huh, an opportunity at hand and i'll expand on that a little bit. I recently graduated from my university, Uh, in entrepreneurship and business management, fully funded by my parents, So I have no debt there. I got married a month after I graduated. She has one year left of school fully paid for as well.

00:23:03.78 – 00:23:41.08

We both have our own cars fully paid off, so we have no debt outside of um. We just have our normal expenses such as rents and all, and we've definitely seen god's hand in both marriage and school and now work Where. a month before I graduated, I made the right call to the right person at the right time A distant family member who has his own company specializing in low voltage wiring. and he is, He's run it for 27 years and was looking for an exit. and that's where I come in, where i'm actually In the line for succession to take over for him in about a year, year and a half from now.

00:23:41.08 – 00:24:10.68

Okay, and in that he's run the company for about 27 years, but hasn't done too much to develop it. He's not so much of a businessman, but it's more skilled in the technical area, And it's just done what he can to run it And there's definitely a lot of opportunity in developing the business. And that's where, with my schooling. There's a program Uh, it's a master's program. That is a business accelerator With professionals in the area, and we've been blessed by being accepted into this program.

00:24:11.32 – 00:24:50.16

however, upon discussion with it, About it, with the owner of the company. He is Opted. he's open to funding the program and sees the value of it. However, during this time that I would be in the program. I would likely would not be paid Um to be doing this development for the business, and this is three full days a week, and with the money i'd make on mondays and fridays doing Work in the field for the company Over the nine months of being in the program, it wouldn't quite be enough to cover our basic expenses.

2Speaker 2
00:24:50.16 – 00:24:56.28

Okay, so you've called us. Okay. You've called us. for what reason, then, now that we've got the background?

1Speaker 1
00:24:57.22 – 00:25:06.68

Yeah, to figure out how I should approach, Uh, the owner of the company in discussing possible pay for it. Who's your uncle?

00:25:08.30 – 00:25:16.00

Um, so he is. uh, he's not my uncle. He's a more distant family member. Oh, okay. Um, he's the owner of the company.

00:25:16.32 – 00:25:24.54

Yeah, but he's a family member. agreed, Yeah, he's a family member. He's agreed to fund the program but not pay me while being in the program, you know, I get it.

2Speaker 2
00:25:24.54 – 00:25:44.98

Are you hourly or salary? Hourly right now. Okay. Well, that's part of the context right there and that's part of the natural rub is is, first of all, he's old school, as you said, he's not really think of this from a a traditional Kind of ceo mindset. He's just, he's the owner operator, right?

00:25:45.20 – 00:25:56.48

And he's going great. I'll pay for you to go get this additional training, but i'm not gonna pay you When you're in school, i'm paying for the school. I think that's a pretty fair deal. Don't you?

1Speaker 1
00:25:58.00 – 00:26:03.68

Yeah, and I absolutely see it that way. Uh, what's interesting about the hold on a second.

2Speaker 2
00:26:03.68 – 00:26:14.72

Hold on a second. Hold on. Hold on, because I don't want to get too much into a rabbit trail here. The bottom line is. you called us saying and, george, I want you to weigh in here, But you're asking us how can I convince my distant family member?

00:26:15.44 – 00:26:31.52

Uh, who's the owner of this company to pay me? my hourly wage? Okay, while i'm in a class that he's paying for Right. And so the question I have is when you brought it up to him. How'd the conversation go?

00:26:31.90 – 00:26:37.70

Was there an actual conversation? Did you have any? Uh, potential counterpoints? or was it just? hey, would you do this?

00:26:37.72 – 00:26:43.54

And he said, no, That's what I want to know today. What, what happened in the conversation when you brought this idea up?

1Speaker 1
00:26:45.14 – 00:26:51.76

Yeah, so I brought up the discussion about the program, um, given it's a business accelerator. no, no, no, no, no.

2Speaker 2
00:26:52.20 – 00:27:03.68

Not the program. Have you brought up to him? Did you the way you're saying this? is that you brought up that you want him to pay you your hourly rate? While you're taking the classes?

00:27:03.68 – 00:27:05.76

did that conversation actually happen?

1Speaker 1
00:27:06.86 – 00:27:15.22

We had a discussion recently where he shared his opinion on it, And that's where he discussed it with me is what he saw regarding it.

2Speaker 2
00:27:15.64 – 00:27:16.46

and he said

1Speaker 1
00:27:17.60 – 00:27:39.52

And he said that he would rather that I sacrifice, uh, being paid, Or he would rather that I sacrifice not being paid during that time that I am Developing those aspects of the business, Rather than because it's not directly increasing profits to company. Yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:27:39.52 – 00:27:45.74

For those direct actions. Okay, that's all I wanted to know. I just wanted to know his true state of mind, how open he was to this, george.

3Speaker 3
00:27:45.74 – 00:27:52.66

So this is not going to be possibility. What is your other option here? Is you paying for the class on your own while getting paid your hourly wage?

1Speaker 1
00:27:54.58 – 00:28:04.68

Uh, the other possibility would be to likely not Take the program. How much is the program? you? as it is? It's 15 000.

2Speaker 2
00:28:04.68 – 00:28:06.04

Okay for.

1Speaker 1
00:28:06.72 – 00:28:07.16

both.

2Speaker 2
00:28:07.68 – 00:28:28.22

For a full year of it. and, and um, I like where your head's at, george, because let me tell you where i'm at All right, george, I think That we're going to talk about you, garrett, for just a second, instead of talk to you in front of your back, Not behind right. I here's what I think he should do. He's supposed to be taking over within a year or so, or around a year. I think he holds off on this course.

00:28:28.76 – 00:28:46.96

He becomes ceo, Then he builds it into a natural expense of the organization And he can therefore at that time make that decision. the company. that becomes a viable expense for the company saves him money. He loses no income, and uh, we're only talking about 12 months. I just don't think what trade-off.

00:28:47.08 – 00:28:53.88

There's no urgency. There's no urgency. By the way, it's not feasible financially. It's not feasible. What would you do, garrett, to cover your expenses with no income?

3Speaker 3
00:28:56.00 – 00:28:56.96

Have you thought about that?

1Speaker 1
00:28:57.80 – 00:29:12.46

Yeah, and that's where the point of conflict was, where it's. he's open to paying for the program, But obviously, if I were to do it, despite it being direct actions to, Since the program is directly to build. No, no company. Garrett. Garrett.

00:29:12.52 – 00:29:12.78

You're.

2Speaker 2
00:29:14.60 – 00:29:21.10

Garrett. garrett, listen, we're on the same soundtrack. george is asking you point blank. We've got 45 seconds. Yes, or no answer.

00:29:21.20 – 00:29:36.06

Have you thought through how you would pay the bills, the money that you are losing? By doing the three days a week in classes. We know the the district family is paying for the course. Have you thought about how you could make the money? outside of the classes?

3Speaker 3
00:29:37.18 – 00:29:38.42

Have you thought about it? Yeah, I know.

1Speaker 1
00:29:39.00 – 00:29:42.56

I likely wouldn't be able to if I take the course there you go. So that gives my answer.

3Speaker 3
00:29:42.56 – 00:29:46.26

So this is not a feasible option, you know, wait, wait, let's wait.

2Speaker 2
00:29:46.26 – 00:30:00.70

By the way, you're still going to get the knowledge and the company's going to pay for it. Oh, by the way, if you're the ceo becomes a line item expense in the old every dollar company budget, right? Yeah, I like this plan. All right, garrett. Thanks for the call.

00:30:00.92 – 00:30:03.54

We told you what to do. Will he do it, george?

3Speaker 3
00:30:03.78 – 00:30:07.32

That's the question. We don't know. only garrett can answer. There you go. Don't move.

00:30:07.44 – 00:30:09.18

We'll be right back. This is the ramsay show.

2Speaker 2
00:30:12.90 – 00:30:44.60

These days, it's not if your identity gets stolen, It's when, and the only id theft protection plan I have ever recommended is from zander insurance. Welcome back to the ramsay show. thrilled that you are with us, america. We are here for you. We want you to win with your money, winning your work and winning your relationships. I'm, ken coleman.

00:31:23.28 – 00:31:26.02

george campbell joins me. the phone number to jump in is.

00:31:27.70 – 00:31:37.54

888-825-5225. 888-825-5225. You know what time it is, don't you, george? It's question of the day. time for question of the day.

00:31:37.66 – 00:31:45.56

It comes from Brady in. do you say nevada or nevada? I've heard it's nevada. That's what I hear. that's what i'm going with the correct answer.

00:31:45.76 – 00:31:47.36

All right. Tell us what brady's asking george.

3Speaker 3
00:31:47.36 – 00:32:05.30

I'm planning to apply to dental school this year and i'm nervous about the total tuition of five hundred thousand dollars. I would be too. my parents said they will pay my way through school But will likely have to sell some commercial investments to do so. Is it worth it to spend a lot of money on schooling if my parents are pushing me? Oh, that's a left field.

00:32:05.30 – 00:32:15.40

turn there, right there, right there. in the last part of the question, I was all aboard until the parents are pushing. Yeah, what's your gut, george? Uh, I love the parents. the parents are saying.

00:32:15.50 – 00:32:31.84

Hey, we can do this. We need to sell some commercial investments. It sounds like they're doing pretty well. So as long as they're not taking on debt and they're liquidating assets They already own, it's not going to, you know, derail their nest egg and financial plan. I think this is amazing, that the parents are willing and able to pay for the tuition.

00:32:32.38 – 00:32:45.72

I would also go. can we find it cheaper? Can we go to a more affordable dental school? that also fits the bill, but the part that worries me is the My parents are pushing me. Is it worth it to spend a lot of money on schooling if my parents are?

00:32:46.26 – 00:32:49.48

Yeah, it's a red flag pushing is, i'm guessing. This is not a typo.

2Speaker 2
00:32:49.48 – 00:33:00.02

I? if it's not I, I want to know what would he do? Does he actually want to be a dentist? That's where i'm going. if they were willing to put five hundred thousand dollars into something else.

00:33:00.02 – 00:33:03.14

Is there anything, and what is above dentistry?

3Speaker 3
00:33:03.62 – 00:33:14.52

I just don't want a guy drilling into my teeth because mommy wanted him to. well, you know what I mean? That's for sure. So that's a big part of this, the the pushing part. But is it worth it to spend a lot of money on schooling?

00:33:14.78 – 00:33:24.76

Well, if you're paying cash and it's what you want to do with your career And you're able to do it. That's fine. Like we're not mad at famous, you know big name schools, But want to if you're paying cash and you're doing it for the right reason.

2Speaker 2
00:33:24.76 – 00:33:52.74

I gotta imagine if you don't have passion for fixing people's teeth, It's got to be the worst thing on the planet to do. I mean That's pretty rough. Yeah, Like, i'm going if you don't want to pick up trash, But that's your job. You can hold your nose on that one literally, But sticking your hand in people's mouths, Talking to them a lot of intensity there. That's a tough business to wake up every day and go.

00:33:54.66 – 00:33:56.16

Well, I don't want to do this.

3Speaker 3
00:33:56.16 – 00:34:09.54

You know, there's some gnarly looking teeth out there. Here's what will likely happen if he's not actually passionate about this. He gets halfway through burns out, drops out. parents are still on the hook for the half million, And now there's resentment. I don't like the relationship.

00:34:09.94 – 00:34:10.34

I'm saying run.

2Speaker 2
00:34:11.08 – 00:34:27.74

So that's the part, you know what he should do. He should take the get clear career assessment. It would pretty quickly, in about 20 minutes, give him a great report that says yay or nay on that job. So there you go, But I can't give it to him because he emailed it. call us up, brady, if you get the chance, All right back to the phones.

00:34:27.74 – 00:34:32.36

we go. we're going to stay here in nashville and i'm told jelly is on the line, jelly.

1Speaker 1
00:34:34.50 – 00:34:37.90

Hey ken, hey george, how's it going today? Oh, we're having a blast. What's going on?

3Speaker 3
00:34:37.90 – 00:34:40.28

Can I just ask is this a given name? I'm very curious.

1Speaker 1
00:34:42.20 – 00:34:46.34

Uh, My name is joseph actually, but everybody calls me joey.

2Speaker 2
00:34:46.80 – 00:34:54.82

Okay, that helps me out. I kind of well. now I gotta ask How did you come about getting the name jelly? Is it joseph? Is it radio appropriate, family friendly?

00:34:55.06 – 00:34:55.34

Oh?

1Speaker 1
00:34:56.08 – 00:34:59.86

I mean, that's just what my mom and dad decided they want to call me.

2Speaker 2
00:34:59.86 – 00:35:05.46

So that that's what it also is a youngster around the house. instead of yelling joseph for joe. They just called you jelly.

1Speaker 1
00:35:06.56 – 00:35:08.80

Yep, that's it. Wow. Love it.

2Speaker 2
00:35:08.80 – 00:35:14.78

I'm gonna avoid the obvious for for tort here and just get right to the question. Okay, how can we help? How can we help?

1Speaker 1
00:35:16.06 – 00:35:49.28

So I have a question regarding baby step four. I have a raw 401k at work That has about two hundred and fifteen thousand dollars in it. Um, my company matches a half a percent up to six percent, so I'm contributing fifteen percent. now I was wondering do I need to back that down to the six percent just to max out my match And open up a raw ira outside of work? Or do I just need to keep doing what i'm doing?

00:35:50.04 – 00:35:57.68

since I already have that amount of money in there and that's just gonna keep compounding instead of Going out and opening up something starting from zero?

3Speaker 3
00:35:58.38 – 00:36:16.56

Well, the starting from zero part doesn't matter mathematically. You're going to have the same. if you have the same rates of return, the money is going to increase at the same levels, No matter what the account is if it started from zero. If you add a thousand to something that had zero or a thousand to something that had 215, That thousand is going to appreciate at the same rate. Does that make sense?

00:36:17.88 – 00:36:29.12

Yes, it does. So. you said this is a roth 401k. Yes, okay, so you're contributing all 15 percent to the roth side. and what is your household income or what's your gross income?

00:36:31.20 – 00:36:32.74

Roughly 140 000.

00:36:33.40 – 00:36:37.76

. That's amazing. So you likely are going to max out that roth.

00:36:39.72 – 00:36:55.08

No, you, you'll get close. this year's 23 000 is the limit. you'll get to 21 000 by doing the, You know, at 140 000 income. so if i'm, you're in your shoes and i'll tell you, jelly, This is something i've done at ramsey myself. I put all 15 into that roth 401k.

00:36:55.08 – 00:37:11.28

The reason we tell people to invest up to the match and then go to a roth ira and then come back Is if it's a traditional 401k And the key you're looking for is tax advantages. So match beats, roth beats traditional. the match is free money. That's a hundred percent rate of return. take that next up.

00:37:11.34 – 00:37:37.82

We have all of our roth options. That would be the roth ira. then we go to traditional. but because you have a roth option with your 401k, You can just keep it simple and do all 15 there. If you go up, let's say, your income goes up and you haven't hit 15 percent and you've maxed out the 401k, You can look into what's known as a backdoor roth ira, Which is when you fund a traditional ira with non-deductible money and then you convert it to a roth, and that is a very legal loophole.

00:37:39.68 – 00:37:46.12

Yes, sir, does that help? That helps. we helped at least one person. there you go. Well, that's your jam show.

2Speaker 2
00:37:46.12 – 00:37:54.06

That's your jam to help the jellies of the world. Gosh, you're good. You see, I couldn't resist that. I've been thinking the entire call. What was I gonna say?

00:37:54.06 – 00:37:58.40

couldn't work in peanut butter. what I wanted to ask was was your last name roll? Oh.

3Speaker 3
00:37:58.88 – 00:38:02.86

Well played jelly roll, very famous nashville country artist, by the way.

2Speaker 2
00:38:02.86 – 00:38:12.72

One of the greatest little debbie snacks of all time. I believe there were jelly rolls. fantastic, This is what we poor people packed in our lunch. Wow, that's a throwback. Oh, yeah, a little debbie.

00:38:12.80 – 00:38:19.92

I believe it's a little debbie snack. People can fact check me later. Uh, let's go to bozeman montana. Michael is joining us. Michael.

00:38:20.00 – 00:38:20.56

How can we help?

1Speaker 1
00:38:22.24 – 00:38:40.06

Hi, thank you for taking my call. you bet what's up? i'm. I'm new to the randy system and kind of dove in headfirst, and I appreciate it. It's simple enough that you know, it's still idiot proof after 30 years of the world building better idiots, um, we're glad to have you, Yeah.

00:38:41.74 – 00:39:14.20

Um, so i'm reaching the stage where i'm looking Um at investing, and i've heard david speak, uh before, about not avoiding bank related, uh brokerages, um and uh based off of you know, whatever from like clark howard and other figures. it seems like good advice in the long term, um, but there is um. Uh, there's not a smart investor pro within. You know 150 miles of me, because there's like two in the state of montana. So I was what my question is Is it okay to stay with us bank?

00:39:14.56 – 00:39:21.66

For the brokerage simply because I I really appreciate having somewhere I can literally walk into an office and have that face-to-face.

2Speaker 2
00:39:22.14 – 00:39:26.16

Um, because I grew up in town, but it's an interesting question bank. That's a good question, george.

3Speaker 3
00:39:26.76 – 00:39:43.36

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with that, I would. here's the thing when you look into these other, the big three, you know vanguard, fidelity, schwab What you'll find is they are. they're going to have lower fees Than probably a bank brokerage does. and the other thing about bank brokerages. They're going to try to sell you all kinds of debt products.

00:39:44.22 – 00:39:56.98

That's how they're. they're going to be making their money. And so that's the one thing to watch out for. watch out for expense ratios, watch out for the products They're trying to put you into, especially when it comes to insurance products. And so I would just tread with caution.

00:39:57.16 – 00:40:07.62

There's nothing, you know, evil about it. and uh, But, you've got to be paying attention and you have to be making the decisions. Don't just let them put it on cruise control and say we got it. michael. Don't worry about it.

00:40:07.62 – 00:40:18.22

Uh, so, if you look into all of that and everything checks out, they're putting you in, you know, ramsey approved Investments and assets, and the expense ratios are low. They're not trying to mess with you and market.

2Speaker 2
00:40:18.82 – 00:40:33.38

Crappy products to you, then go for it. quick follow-up on that, george, on his behalf and for others. It's the first time i've ever heard that particular question, where you know, there aren't a bunch of smart investor pros in a rural vicinity. Couldn't he still though the remote? that's what i'm saying.

00:40:33.38 – 00:40:38.02

You don't need to. I wouldn't let that limit you. I get the comfort factor of driving in, but it can be done.

3Speaker 3
00:40:38.02 – 00:40:41.76

You can work with somebody. I do zoom calls with my smart investor pro and he's local.

2Speaker 2
00:40:41.76 – 00:40:49.70

I'm, just too lazy to leave the house. All right, very good. Good answer, george. as always, All right, it's gonna do it for the first hour. We'll be back before you know it.

We've known each other for a long time, over a decade, in this role. Yeah, and now we sit here. Would you have guessed 10, 12 years ago? We'd be sitting here today. I would have been flabbergasted.

3Speaker 3
00:42:41.38 – 00:42:51.36

I know you told me, and by the way, can I just say on air? Happy 10th rams adversary, and we got to celebrate you in a recent staff meeting with the whole ramsay team. But that's right. That was fun to see you get honored up there.

2Speaker 2
00:42:51.36 – 00:42:59.88

Thank you. 10 years goes fast when you're having fun a decade here at rams. There you go. There you go. Triple eight, eight, two, five, five, two, two, five is the phone number?

00:42:59.88 – 00:43:11.24

triple eight, eight, two, five, five, two, two, Five. george and I fashion ourselves as the really fun group, the fun, the fun tandem. So we're gonna have some fun and give you some practical advice. We'll see. and ken loves fashion, What's that?

00:43:11.24 – 00:43:19.32

and ken loves fashion? Yeah, I do, as do you, mr. Bomber, jacket? It's an easy go-to, you know How many of those do you have? by the way, too many and not enough?

00:43:19.54 – 00:43:24.32

There you go, All right. Let's go to greg in st. Louis, Missouri. greg. How can we help?

1Speaker 1
00:43:25.32 – 00:43:37.58

Yes, sir. Hey, it's a pleasure talking to you, ken and george. I've listened to you guys for several years and appreciate Getting a chance to hear some wisdom and opinions from you. All right, george will give you the wisdom.

2Speaker 2
00:43:37.58 – 00:43:40.72

I'll give you the opinion. Yeah, you both got both. All right.

1Speaker 1
00:43:41.28 – 00:43:59.76

and i've got a some property i'm wanting to Set up in a trust for my children and grandchildren, And i'm kind of new at everything. I have seen a lawyer and got another appointment to see one and uh, basically, uh, I want to set it up in a trust and um.

00:44:01.36 – 00:44:31.30

Well, I just want to set it up in a trust and protect it. I guess you could say so that i'm sure that they'll get this inheritance. but uh, I wanted to Do that. I got about 120 acres and um, I want to put it in the uh will and trust to be when it was sold to be dispersed that way. and um, Prior to that, i'm hoping to maybe sell part of it And invest that in some.

00:44:31.30 – 00:44:54.84

uh, I don't know what. I was going to get your guys's opinion, cds. And also I wanted to purchase a home in florida with some of the balance. So What i'm looking at is about 60 acres at uh, 10 000 and then i'm going to keep 60 acres and my home And uh, not sure what i'll do with it from there.

2Speaker 2
00:44:54.84 – 00:45:05.28

So I got a question here for george, ways in why? why are you Considering the trust as opposed to just in your will or whatever the situation there. Why? why the trust idea?

1Speaker 1
00:45:05.94 – 00:45:26.90

Um, well, I really don't know, ken, uh, all the different nuances about everything. I just know that I have nothing set up right now And I gotta say my marriage is, you know, I don't want to say not that great, And i'm not sure where that's all going to go. So i'm kind of just trying to get some stuff lined out, to keep things. Uh, in check.

3Speaker 3
00:45:27.38 – 00:45:30.40

Did you have all this acreage before the marriage?

1Speaker 1
00:45:31.16 – 00:45:36.60

Yes, sir. I did. I actually about five years prior to that. Okay, and she knows about it.

3Speaker 3
00:45:37.38 – 00:45:39.66

Knows about what the acreage? Yes.

1Speaker 1
00:45:40.18 – 00:45:47.38

Yes, we, we lived, we lived. we lived here on it for about, uh, the last 40 something years.

3Speaker 3
00:45:47.38 – 00:45:55.70

Okay, that makes the difference, because you guys own property and live On the property, and so this might be considered a marital asset.

1Speaker 1
00:45:56.26 – 00:46:16.32

Well, hold on, george. Just the only thing is we really uh, we've lived separate for about the last since 08. and, uh, other than some, some back and forth, uh, You know, between the two residences. Uh, it's just been a big mess. never anticipated my family or myself would be in such a messed up.

2Speaker 2
00:46:17.26 – 00:46:25.46

Dysfunctional deal, but I am so. so you guys are not. you guys are only married by actual law. You guys have not been married for some time.

1Speaker 1
00:46:25.46 – 00:46:43.36

Well, I will say she did a file for divorce about three years ago and that got. uh, I did not agree to. it wanted to reconcile. we reconciled partly and uh, You know, i've been hearing and feeling some of the bad stuff coming back from then you reconciled to the point.

2Speaker 2
00:46:43.36 – 00:46:46.02

You still live separately since 2008.

1Speaker 1
00:46:47.18 – 00:46:58.76

well, uh, The divorce was just three years ago. Well, great. What are you hanging on to at this? Yeah, you guys haven't lived together in 16 years. I don't know, I guess, because, uh, we've been married.

00:46:59.12 – 00:47:00.16

Uh, you haven't been.

2Speaker 2
00:47:00.16 – 00:47:08.34

Yeah, we haven't been. dick van dyke and mary tyler moore slept in separate beds. You guys are in different houses. I mean, this is this is not normal.

1Speaker 1
00:47:08.90 – 00:47:29.20

No, sir, it's not. i'd say she classified as a uh, modern, I don't know, uh, modern marriage, but it's not anything. i've really been been for none of it, so This is where i'm at and short of a divorce and a complete. whatever happens, I don't know, but I did want to try to structure something to protect.

2Speaker 2
00:47:29.20 – 00:47:42.42

So it sounds like so. it sounds like i'm going to read between the lines here a little bit. Uh, sounds like You're not sure if you're going to do the divorce or not. in my opinion, you guys are divorced Emotionally, this is an absence. I don't know what you know.

00:47:42.42 – 00:47:44.60

train wreck, the state of missouri.

3Speaker 3
00:47:44.60 – 00:47:49.60

And the judges will decide is marital assets when you haven't lived together for 16 years.

2Speaker 2
00:47:49.60 – 00:47:53.72

But it feels like you're trying to keep her, keep this land from going to her.

1Speaker 1
00:47:53.72 – 00:48:19.00

That's what it feels. That is, that is true, because that's been seeming like one of her main driving factors. uh, You know she's not on the title and I don't know exactly till I find some more out about it, but You know, she's stated in the past. She wasn't really worried about the kids. She's wanting to um, Do some different things with the money and, like you said, I don't believe she's really too interested in being married.

2Speaker 2
00:48:19.00 – 00:48:22.48

I'll tell you this great news flash, your instincts are right.

3Speaker 3
00:48:22.48 – 00:48:52.26

Yes, and a divorce is going to turn a marriage into a business transaction, And so your best bet now is trying to do this all as amicably as possible And try to protect your assets. I think you're doing the right thing to protect your legacy in your financial world, And again, i'm not the qualified person to talk to for this. I'd be working with an estate planning attorney a, you know, a lawyer who's is specifically in trusts To figure all of this out and decide what is the right thing, based on your state laws and your situation, to that end.

2Speaker 2
00:48:52.26 – 00:49:09.98

uh, Greg, I I think you need to get two or three opinions. i'd meet with a minimum of two lawyers. I think three feels better. uh, Because this is a you, you're going to get some differing opinions. You want to come away from the three meetings with where all three lawyers on the same page?

00:49:10.08 – 00:49:16.72

That's where you get the knowledge base to go. What is it that I want to do? You don't want them telling you what to do. george, you agree with that? Absolutely.

00:49:17.08 – 00:49:23.92

I think that's it Just a bare minimum. Let's get three, maybe four opinions on what. you need to assemble a team at this point, greg.

3Speaker 3
00:49:23.92 – 00:49:28.64

You need one, you need a financial advisor and you can get connected with a smart investor, pro ramsey solutions.

00:49:28.64 – 00:49:43.18

com You need a good estate attorney. You need a good trust lawyer And probably a good insurance, uh broker as well, And that's going to help you navigate whatever's next. but I would please, i'm begging you, just take the next step. You're living in limbo for decades.

1Speaker 1
00:49:44.06 – 00:49:54.06

Yes, sir, with a pseudo relationship. acknowledge that, even though, I don't know. We've got five kids. It's just a big messed up deal, for sure. I don't know what to conclude out of it.

00:49:54.14 – 00:50:01.10

I'm pretty well 66, so it's not like. uh, I'm, really looking forward to any of it, but um.

3Speaker 3
00:50:01.10 – 00:50:06.70

I guess I need to. well, you got to move on to the next chapter. You got a lot, a lot of life to live, greg, and this ain't it?

2Speaker 2
00:50:06.90 – 00:50:24.78

Been slogging through the mud for a long time because we don't want to deal with the inevitable. So now it's the time you're not getting any younger. Make a clear decision about what we're going to do going forward and live with it. Thanks for the call. feel so bad for you, but there's some clarity on the other side of all this?

00:50:24.78 – 00:50:26.40

This is the ramsay show.

00:50:28.86 – 00:50:56.58

There aren't many places you can save hundreds of dollars a month and still give you great service, Especially with health insurance. That's why health trust financial is the only health insurance company ramsay recommends. health trust financial Objectively compares the top health insurance providers to meet your needs and budget. and remember the service is free And there's no commitment. go to health trust financial dot com.

00:50:56.58 – 00:50:59.20

health trust financial dot com.

00:51:01.10 – 00:51:10.54

How you doing out there, america? are you winning with your money? are you winning in your work? Are you winning in your relationships? If not, this is a place for you, safe place.

00:51:10.64 – 00:51:28.12

We're going to help you out. We're going to give you some hope with some practical advice. I'm ken colman, george camel Joy's with a sour In his bomber jacket triple, eight, eight, two, five, five, two, two, five, triple, eight, Eight, two, five, five, two, two, five. I just want to point out that those are great, But when they go out, you're in trouble. i'm fine.

00:51:28.24 – 00:51:30.16

You're gonna have a whole closet. Here's the thing.

3Speaker 3
00:51:30.50 – 00:51:39.36

I'm always being told, gen z decided skinny jeans are out and no show socks are out, and frankly, i'm sick of it. Oh, okay. Why are we taking advice from them about fashion?

2Speaker 2
00:51:39.36 – 00:51:44.30

Have. this is a thing. It's a thing. That's that the no show socks. No show socks are out.

3Speaker 3
00:51:44.30 – 00:51:53.74

You see, your kids probably wear the tall white socks. Oh, i've seen all white nike socks. Apparently have to flip them inside out. Oh, i'm tired of it, ken. I don't like that at all.

2Speaker 2
00:51:53.74 – 00:52:04.80

I don't like curmudgeon. I'll tell you what i'd go for, since i'm a child of the 80s. I'd go for the uh tube socks with the stripes. If those come back, i'm in. i'll rock those mid mid shin.

3Speaker 3
00:52:04.80 – 00:52:12.84

My hope is eventually, whatever i'm wearing comes back in style at some point. I'm too lazy to switch out a wardrobe every year because some 18 year old decided it wasn't cool.

2Speaker 2
00:52:12.84 – 00:52:21.90

Well, good for you, george bomber, jackets will be in forever. I'm rising above the trends. Okay, Tony is on the line in washington, dc. Tony. How can we help today?

1Speaker 1
00:52:23.44 – 00:52:57.32

Hi, um, so my question is I finally decided to follow the baby steps the right way and decided to sell my rental property. So I put it on the market and I got no offers except an investor, like a really low offer, And then no one even viewed the home. So my question is do I take? uh, it's not really a loss, because I I owe 91,000 on the home and it's worth like 3, 14 now. So how much do I lower the price?

00:52:57.46 – 00:53:07.54

I lowered it for 15 000 and still no hit. and Um, the offer that I got that was from an investor. It was like a hundred thousand dollars below.

3Speaker 3
00:53:07.54 – 00:53:18.62

When you say you lowered it, are you working with a pro real estate agent on this? Yes. Okay. And what is their take on why this hasn't sold and the strategy around lowering the price?

1Speaker 1
00:53:19.88 – 00:53:44.48

So she said that because of the market, um the interest rate, that she said that Right when I um listed it, The federal reserve or something went up again on the rate. so buyers are um Nervous. and then my home Is um, and it's not rural but it's it's growing, so it's a demand area off and on.

2Speaker 2
00:53:45.16 – 00:53:49.44

Okay, but what about the pricing in the mix? Did she think your pricing was correct?

1Speaker 1
00:53:50.40 – 00:53:54.34

Yes, she said it was correct and it was, and how long has it been on the market?

2Speaker 2
00:53:55.80 – 00:53:58.90

About 30 days. Oh, for heaven's sakes, you got to be patient.

3Speaker 3
00:53:59.54 – 00:54:08.50

Yeah, we're seeing things that, depending on your area. It could be 60 to 90 days. Yeah, And so sit tight. I don't know that. I fully trust this real estate agent.

00:54:08.50 – 00:54:22.18

if i'm in your shoes, I'm going to connect with a ramsey trusted real estate agent. You can do that at ramsaysolutions.com slash, slash agent, and i'll get a second opinion and see what they think about all this and go. Hey, here's, here's how we staged it. Here's how we listed it. Here was the strategy.

00:54:22.42 – 00:54:33.26

What do you think? Yeah, and part of it they may look at and go. Yeah, you got to be patient. the days on market for your zip code Is xyz and so, but I wouldn't just sit on this and keep lowering the price.

1Speaker 1
00:54:34.72 – 00:54:53.00

Okay, yeah, so at any point. so if I, Without any views, without any offers, at what point do you like? how much of a? it's not a loss because of how much equity I have, But should I lower it to get rid of it, to pay my debt or no, like we just told you?

2Speaker 2
00:54:53.00 – 00:55:11.92

You're, you're you? listen, sit tight on this. I wouldn't even start wringing my hands About price. if you do what george says, I think you need to go to to ramsaysolutions.com slash agent And I think you need to interview two or three and see what they would do if it were their listing. Okay, they're trying.

00:55:11.92 – 00:55:12.76

these are going to be your business.

1Speaker 1
00:55:14.00 – 00:55:18.84

I don't have the cash flow to continue to have it sit for a long period of time.

3Speaker 3
00:55:18.84 – 00:55:26.82

Ah, so you're. so you've got some desperation because you're burning through. you're paying the mortgage, the property taxes, the homeowner's insurance. Did you have this rented at some point?

1Speaker 1
00:55:27.92 – 00:55:30.74

Yes, it's been rented for about seven years.

3Speaker 3
00:55:30.74 – 00:55:33.38

And what happened? It's how long has it been vacant?

1Speaker 1
00:55:34.68 – 00:55:37.22

uh, about Two months now.

2Speaker 2
00:55:37.76 – 00:55:39.08

How long can you float?

1Speaker 1
00:55:40.02 – 00:55:52.98

This thing I can do about One more month because I paid the mortgage for about three. now. All right, and did you say you dropped the price already on it? Yes, you dropped it 15 000.. I dropped it by 15 000..

00:55:53.12 – 00:55:53.30

Yes,

2Speaker 2
00:55:54.54 – 00:56:15.10

Yeah, I, here's the. here's the challenge, tony george, I don't know what you think and we're not the actual real estate pros, but we got them. but tony you Your first response to us going to talk to our pros. I can't sit on this for long. go talk to some pros that we're telling you to talk to and see, If you tell them I am extremely motivated and you tell them why they understand And they're going to give you the best strategy.

00:56:15.18 – 00:56:22.10

So you still need to go. talk to them. That's not going to take you very long. Okay, we're not talking like burning sunlight on that deal. But but back to this again.

00:56:22.10 – 00:56:37.26

I don't know if, if, if these pros are going to agree with you on this, but my gut says that lowering the price By 15 more Doesn't necessarily move the timeline up. when, when you've got a uh, the the situation we have in america today.

3Speaker 3
00:56:37.86 – 00:56:52.72

People are just taking longer. Yeah, you need more info about why this property is Undesirable and why it's been sitting, and if this is normal in your area, and what can be done To remedy this. is a curb appeal. Do we need to make a renovation? Do we need to take it off the market for a while?

00:56:53.14 – 00:56:55.42

I don't know, but we need more info. All right, george.

2Speaker 2
00:56:55.42 – 00:56:59.96

I want to get. so I want to get george's opinion. tony, on something else. george, I'm going to go back into the call. All right.

00:57:00.86 – 00:57:14.26

So tony, you said that you had an investor offer you A low offer. What is the listing price as it sits today? It's 300 000 right now, and this investor offered you 200 for it.

1Speaker 1
00:57:15.32 – 00:57:21.34

um, I don't remember, but I know it was like 85 000 less than what?

2Speaker 2
00:57:22.24 – 00:57:24.30

Um, I originally. how long ago was that?

1Speaker 1
00:57:25.70 – 00:57:28.24

Uh, about three weeks ago, did you counter?

2Speaker 2
00:57:29.80 – 00:57:46.60

No, okay, george I, if she gets desperate, I'm, just. I want to know what you think here, And I know you don't know what the real estate pros are going to say. But i'm bringing this to you. if she's in, she's in tough situation and she does have equity, I wonder if she doesn't go back. i'm asking you on her behalf.

00:57:46.78 – 00:57:55.80

Does she go back to that investor and go? Okay, uh, you offered me this 85 less. I'll tell you what. i'll do a deal if you come up to this, and maybe she.

3Speaker 3
00:57:55.80 – 00:58:13.10

My guess is they are probably around 230. then And maybe you say hey, I would do it. My my lowest i'll go is 270, Something like that, and work with your agent on this. Don't do this all solo and come up with a strategy to where you still win. You're not leaving at a huge loss and you do need to have some patience.

2Speaker 2
00:58:13.10 – 00:58:17.26

So you like that? I would at least counter off. I would at least negotiate with the investor.

3Speaker 3
00:58:17.26 – 00:58:26.38

Yeah, my guess is they go. No. Thanks. I'm trying to get a crazy bargain. You know basement bargain deal here and that's okay, but you never know, unless you try, but she's got to know her limit.

2Speaker 2
00:58:26.38 – 00:58:36.64

You got to know the limit. What do you think is her limit knowing her debt? What do you think if you were her? that's what i'm trying to do is give her, because I don't want her to be desperate. What'd you pay for it?

3Speaker 3
00:58:38.08 – 00:58:40.78

I pay 125 in 2014.

00:58:41.60 – 00:58:48.88

. Okay, so, this is appreciated. You've done well. You're not really losing here. You're not really selling at a loss.

00:58:48.88 – 00:58:57.04

you've already gained, you know equity. the house is appreciated. That's what i'm wondering. What's your bottom dollar if you're here? Oh boy, if i'm her, she listed at 314..

00:58:57.16 – 00:59:00.44

That's the going rate. I probably wouldn't personally take less than 290.

2Speaker 2
00:59:01.04 – 00:59:04.96

Okay, And, but she's struggling. she's gonna have to go make some more money.

3Speaker 3
00:59:04.96 – 00:59:12.92

She's gonna have to, or you get a new renter in there for another six month lease. There you go and see what the market does, you know you with us, tony, on this. I mean, these are your options.

2Speaker 2
00:59:12.92 – 00:59:23.48

Here's the deal, though. I know you're feeling the pressure. The reason I brought george into these. what ifs is. I think it helps to have all these options on the table So that you realize you're not without option.

00:59:23.48 – 00:59:26.70

when the moment you start feeling like you're in a corner is when you do something dumb.

3Speaker 3
00:59:26.70 – 00:59:41.02

And that's where the agent. if you get with one of these ramsey trusted pros, They're going to be pulling comps in the area. They're going to be pulling all the data. because I like to make a data-driven decision, not just emotion, Not because i'm sick of it, because it's been sitting. I want to know all the facts, And that's what i'm asking you to go.

00:59:41.02 – 00:59:43.20

do. Yeah. Thanks for the call. Tony.

2Speaker 2
00:59:43.64 – 00:59:56.86

Uh, yeah, george, that's again. So here's the crux of this situation. is she's in so much debt And the cash flow in the situation and this is what we see happen all the time You give advice. unless all the time people think oh, i'm gonna get into real. they get starry-eyed over some, you know.

3Speaker 3
00:59:56.86 – 01:00:14.54

Roided up limp biscuit looking dude on instagram who told them everyone should buy real estate. And then we're in a bind and we're losing money on these deals. We're stressed out. It's not the rosy picture that was painted for us on social, and that's why we teach the baby steps go slow, Pay cash for investment property. I don't care if it takes you five or ten years instead of one.

2Speaker 2
01:00:14.54 – 01:00:32.04

It's the right way. right, because this is a great point, george. She actually has an equity and still, stressed out of her mind, Can't get rid of it fast enough, not worth the stress. 2Speaker 2
01:03:22.32 – 01:03:24.26

You're playing shuffleboard with me exactly.

1Speaker 1
01:05:36.76 – 01:05:43.64

Hey guys, thanks so much for taking my call. I appreciate it. Sure. What's going on? Hey, i'm at a kind of crazy time of life.

01:05:43.86 – 01:06:06.94

I had a what I was hoping was going to be a lifelong career. I loved it. I was one of the people that got up at 8 a.m To go to work and was grateful. Yeah, my wife would have to pry me away from the computer. And, uh, was included in a pretty sizable company layoff in march of this year And we're, uh, pretty responsible with our money, but, uh, it's taken a whole lot longer to find another job.

01:06:07.50 – 01:06:39.16

Either of us thought it would. yeah, just kind of the way it is right now, a lot of people are on linkedin talking about layoffs in the tech world, and We trust god's sovereignty, but ultimately, uh, we're gonna have to find something. but in the meantime, I guess, we're looking for wisdom, maybe out of the box, creative solutions for how to Stay afloat as long as possible in such a complicated time. Are there maybe strategies that haven't come to mind for us yet? Or are there resources available that we don't know about?

01:06:39.74 – 01:06:42.78

To kind of be able to keep our heads up while we wait. All right.

2Speaker 2
01:06:42.78 – 01:06:52.72

Well, let's let's do a couple things. George is the master At, you know, cutting expenses and getting creative. that way. I want to bring him in. but I Let's get a couple of things first here.

01:06:52.80 – 01:06:54.68

What was the income you were making?

01:06:56.36 – 01:07:01.32

Um, I was making 80 000 a year, okay, and what were you doing specifically in tech?

1Speaker 1
01:07:02.54 – 01:07:06.08

I'm a software developer. Hmm. Okay. How long you been doing it?

01:07:08.38 – 01:07:10.38

Uh, two, two and a half years, okay.

2Speaker 2
01:07:11.16 – 01:07:16.86

Um, are you doing anything right? well, let me ask this did you have any kind of a severance at all?

1Speaker 1
01:07:19.32 – 01:07:22.94

Um, yeah, it was uh a month.

2Speaker 2
01:07:22.94 – 01:07:31.92

Okay, of income. I think all right, and are you doing anything for work right now? I mean, I don't care if it's two part-time jobs, one part-time. Are you doing anything to bring income in?

1Speaker 1
01:07:34.18 – 01:07:43.38

Um, i'm trying to Build up my resume as much as possible through training and certifications. Yeah, that doesn't get you paid a lot.

2Speaker 2
01:07:43.38 – 01:07:44.74

Yeah, okay, right.

1Speaker 1
01:07:44.74 – 01:07:50.40

So my wife has two home businesses that have been helping a ton, but they're not going to be a long-term solution.

2Speaker 2
01:07:50.40 – 01:08:01.40

Okay, so what's the deficit right now? Do you have to make 80 to to actually get by? Or what? what would allow you guys to actually get by? what's that number?

01:08:02.04 – 01:08:02.80

of income?

1Speaker 1
01:08:03.66 – 01:08:09.98

Yeah, we got 80. was 80 is above, staying afloat, fortunately, um, so what are your monthly expenses?

3Speaker 3
01:08:09.98 – 01:08:16.24

Like if you add up your food utility, shelter, transportation insurance, no luxuries. What is it going to take to get by for one month?

1Speaker 1
01:08:18.86 – 01:08:22.32

Um average month probably 3,000.

3Speaker 3
01:08:23.10 – 01:08:27.06

Okay, so that becomes our baseline goal. if nothing else, we've got to come up with.

2Speaker 2
01:08:27.06 – 01:08:52.98

$3,000 to stay afloat. and let me jump in real quick, george, because i'm going to let you take over here on the cutting. But listen to me, spencer, You have got to go work, I. it doesn't have to be in your field right now, Okay, but if you can be a laborer on a construction crew and make 18 to 20 an hour, uh, that gets you Pretty close to that. $36,000 is what we're saying.

01:08:52.98 – 01:09:14.80

like you, go do one, two, three jobs, So that you stay afloat. like staying afloat is just as important as the next job. And I understand the tech field is contracting a little bit. But the good news is You're an experienced programmer and i'm going to give you the proximity principle. It's a best-selling book.

01:09:14.80 – 01:09:32.20

I want you to read it. if you prefer the audio book, we'll get that to you, christian, I'll get it to you when we're done and and you've got to really Use the formula there of the right people and the right places. if I keep showing up, Then I am going to get an opportunity. but, george, let's walking through where he cuts.

3Speaker 3
01:09:32.20 – 01:09:39.84

Let's get really extreme here. Yeah, it's 3 000.. Is that, is that everything you absolutely need, or is there some things like eating out? That we could cut?

1Speaker 1
01:09:41.94 – 01:09:48.34

um, we. currently We don't eat out, unless, uh, a day has just been really insane.

3Speaker 3
01:09:48.34 – 01:09:56.60

We don't really have much every day is insane when you're unemployed. So we got to figure out a way to meal plan. have food ready in the fridge? Okay, so that one we can cut. what about subscriptions?

01:09:56.78 – 01:10:01.00

Do you have any subscriptions that are excessive? anything? That's not your basic internet.

1Speaker 1
01:10:03.24 – 01:10:08.76

Um At 120 a year for amazon prime. I think is the only quote subscription.

3Speaker 3
01:10:08.76 – 01:10:23.30

That one can go right now because we don't have money to be spending and buying stuff on amazon, So that can free up a little bit right there. And so you start to add these up. It may not sound like a lot at first, And like here's another example re-shopping insurance. Have you re-shopped your insurance in a while for home and auto?

01:12:35.96 – 01:12:38.04

I know that doesn't surprise you, you're.

3Speaker 3
01:12:38.76 – 01:12:41.44

Largely, always irritated by something.

2Speaker 2
01:12:41.98 – 01:12:52.02

Yeah, to be fair, and and so, uh, you know, uh, we decided to go with it because this is something where george and I, we Actually sit next to each other at ramsay. solutions. a little context for how this was born.

3Speaker 3
01:12:52.02 – 01:12:54.32

Our little cubicle desks, a little cube desk.

2Speaker 2
01:12:54.32 – 01:12:57.46

And so we sit there, and sometimes I look at george and I go, I gotta tell you.

3Speaker 3
01:12:57.46 – 01:13:01.08

And in my head I know what's about to come out of. ken's mouth is going to be entertaining.

2Speaker 2
01:13:01.08 – 01:13:22.96

Yeah, so we've done a couple, I gotta tell you, segments You can search it up on the youtube page, where I get a little irritated at things about money and and things are going On, and you know, I've got. I got irritated about the no haggle. Uh, that was very popular. We you said we had to bring back the hang, need to bring back the haggle, you know, Um, and then we talked about tips and and all kinds of things. but today, george, I gotta tell you.

3Speaker 3
01:13:23.76 – 01:13:26.44

What's got your knickers in a twist, ken? Well, i'm not mad today.

2Speaker 2
01:13:26.44 – 01:13:39.30

Oh, this is a good. This is a good, I gotta tell you. All right, uh, because, uh, I, uh, You know, look, i'm paying attention to inflation, too. And I got three teenagers, you know, my kids. Well, two of them are boys.

01:13:39.44 – 01:13:51.66

They're strapping young men, Very, and uh, they eat a lot. And i'm in that stage. You got the little daughter. She's just eating goldfish and thingy. We're talking packs and packs of bacon.

01:13:52.12 – 01:14:00.68

And, uh, so we go to costco, a lot. I know it's one of your favorite places on the planet. I love to buy in bulk. By the way, this is no. this is no endorsement or advertiser for costco.

01:14:00.76 – 01:14:02.20

This is real life. I gotta tell you.

3Speaker 3
01:14:02.20 – 01:14:04.80

We have no affiliation. Can I say I love all wholesale clubs?

2Speaker 2
01:14:05.06 – 01:14:15.30

So do I? so recently, george? I was with stacy, uh, on a saturday afternoon and we were stocking back up. and when I say stocking up, I mean stock heart, full hearts. Oh, yeah, can lose.

01:14:15.46 – 01:14:31.54

Yeah, so we're there in the line and you know the traditional costco layout. You're there in the register line and you're checking everything out. And I really usually am just a guy who's, i'm the pack mule, stacy loads the cart up. I gotta push it out, And that's what i'm doing. I'm not paying attention.

01:14:31.68 – 01:14:45.78

I'm using my phone For whatever reason. this particular saturday. I noticed a very long line of people that were impeding my progress out. So I started to get irritated, As one does, and then I see that why is everybody in line? They're getting food now.

01:14:45.78 – 01:15:04.22

I know the food's there, but i've never paid attention to it. So today I want to do a demo and I want to bring in our lovely associate producer kelly. She has been, uh, going above and beyond the call of duty for us today. Look at, look at her bringing in the samples, george. I want to prove that in today's inflation, the vanna white of wholesale food.

01:15:04.22 – 01:15:16.56

She really, that's what they've called her. We've got ourselves a costco hot dog. This is an actual dog From costco. she drove down the road and got one so nice of her and a slice of pizza. I can smell it now.

01:15:16.66 – 01:15:26.24

Here's the deal. I got my facts here. I'm looking at this and i'm looking at these line of people and i'm going why is everybody? In a line for a hot dog? and i'll tell you why.

01:15:26.24 – 01:15:41.68

because you ready for this. We did our research. kelly helped me out um, this famous hot dog and soda combo since 1985. you can get this quarter pound hot dog that i'm holding in my hands with a 20 ounce drink, with a drink for just a dollar 50, george.

3Speaker 3
01:15:41.68 – 01:15:44.04

That's incredible. That's the inflation buster.

2Speaker 2
01:15:44.04 – 01:15:52.00

Yeah, and so costco has decided This is a lifetime commitment to keep the hot dog at a buck 50, and you know how many hot dogs they've sold, george.

3Speaker 3
01:15:52.00 – 01:15:57.04

What would you take a guess? millions somewhere in 200 million hot dogs? That's a lot of millions.

2Speaker 2
01:15:57.04 – 01:16:00.46

And we're looking at 201, 200 million and one right here.

3Speaker 3
01:16:00.94 – 01:16:16.82

Well, what's extra fun is that this food is a loss leader, meaning costco, you know The rotisserie chicken in the back of the store for five bucks. They're losing money on this stuff, But they are gaining it because ken had to walk into costco and spend three hundred dollars To exit with a dollar 50 hot dog. I'm gonna tell you something.

2Speaker 2
01:16:16.82 – 01:16:24.42

I've never had a costco hot dog, for real. Yeah, but I have had the pizza. It's a rite of passage. get a whole pizza slice of pizza. It's unbelievable.

3Speaker 3
01:16:24.42 – 01:16:27.28

It's an inflation slice of pizza. We have here today is at 199.

2Speaker 2
01:16:27.78 – 01:16:41.20

So it's only a 49 cent markup off of the hot dog. So here's my, I gotta tell you. My, I gotta tell you, is costco. They're doing the right thing. They're not marking up this cheap food.

01:16:41.58 – 01:16:45.72

They're trying to make it accessible to people and, by the way, this is a trend. Are you aware of this?

3Speaker 3
01:16:46.38 – 01:16:47.92

What trend? oh, not marking your prices?

2Speaker 2
01:16:48.14 – 01:16:54.86

Well, we're beginning to see some companies kind of go, You know what? We're gonna hold the line and we're not gonna just raise prices like everybody else.

3Speaker 3
01:16:55.40 – 01:17:02.76

Uh, I saw the viral video. Are you talking about arizona iced tea? I'm talking about air. Tell everybody you've seen this. so I drank these as a kid, as a young skateboarder.

01:17:02.76 – 01:17:13.32

We'd go into the 7-eleven, the gas station. We had no money and we would buy the. you know, 20 ounce can Of arizona iced tea. and ken's now trying the costco pizza pepperoni. What do you think?

01:17:13.32 – 01:17:24.90

you keep talking? Okay, So the arizona iced tea can. on it. It says 99 cents. and what's amazing is that for decades, since 1992, that 22 ounce can has remained at 99 cents.

01:17:24.90 – 01:17:32.60

and we actually have a viral clip from the today show where they interviewed the ceo About why the prices have remained that low. Can we play the clip?

1Speaker 1
01:17:33.80 – 01:17:36.56

Why not increase the price and therefore increase the profit?

01:17:38.18 – 01:17:41.48

We're successful. we're debt-free, we own everything.

01:17:43.66 – 01:17:53.52

Why why have people who are having a hard time paying their rent have to pay more for our drink? Maybe it's my little way to give back. Would you definitively say that you'll never raise that?

01:17:56.18 – 01:18:00.46

Not in the foreseeable future, you know, we're gonna fight as hard as we can for consumers.

2Speaker 2
01:18:01.22 – 01:18:10.90

I love that I could use an arizona iced tea right now, you know, you're arched, That thing will. oh, wait, a second. Look at kelly, the associate producer's back.

3Speaker 3
01:18:11.46 – 01:18:16.52

Did you really? oh my goodness? I had no idea. She's got the arizona iced tea cans. Which one is that?

01:18:16.64 – 01:18:24.34

I've got the arnold palmer and you've got the green tea with feels like we should switch. Well, you know, you like green tea with honey. You're? you feel like a green tea ginseng guy.

2Speaker 2
01:18:24.80 – 01:18:25.88

Which one do you want?

3Speaker 3
01:18:27.28 – 01:18:28.70

How is that a type of guy?

2Speaker 2
01:18:29.20 – 01:18:35.02

Look at you, i'm a ginseng guy. That's not a thing. I I think. with the bomber jacket i'll drink the green tea.

3Speaker 3
01:18:35.92 – 01:18:46.86

There we go, this is again not an endorsement of arizona, but just to show you guys, you got options. And again, this is not a. this is not a video about health. No, okay, Just let ken enjoy some trash food for a second now. Listen.

2Speaker 2
01:18:47.82 – 01:18:55.58

big statement in that video. Did you catch it? He said we're debt free. We can do everything. That's a really big deal.

01:18:55.96 – 01:19:04.86

And there's a guy who's going. you know, what we're gonna? We're not gonna just stick it to the consumer. So good on costco, by the way. other prices of costco food court items.

01:19:04.86 – 01:19:11.84

Did you know? an ice cream sunday's two dollars and 49 cents? That's pretty impressive for you. ice cream sunday people. How about a cinnamon churro?

01:19:12.68 – 01:19:13.76

A dollar 49.

01:19:14.02 – 01:19:20.76

. I don't like the churros, not a fan. No, they're not a fan of you. Yeah, well, there you go. And then a 20 ounce soda with all that sugar.

01:19:20.76 – 01:19:32.64

only you ready for this 69 cents. Now, let's just juxtapose that right there with the movie theater prices. Have you been to the movie theater? I don't darken the doors of a movie. You gotta get a student loan for a bucket of popcorn.

01:19:32.82 – 01:19:33.96

It's insane. It's.

3Speaker 3
01:19:34.58 – 01:19:49.82

Unbelievable, not if you're george camel. I went to a movie with george and the. the dude opens up his jacket when we're sitting down and there's a bag of popcorn, A kit to make an old-fashioned, with ice in a a strip of like orange peel. He, he knows how to do it. the power of the bomber jacket, ken.

01:19:50.06 – 01:19:56.86

That's bootlegging. You can't do that. That's illegal. Well, i'm outed. now come find me, the 17 year old who works at the theater.

2Speaker 2
01:19:56.86 – 01:20:03.24

Have you guys seen the news? you are we're starting to see a price war With fast food companies as well. Oh, that's right.

3Speaker 3
01:20:03.24 – 01:20:06.84

The whole five dollar meal thing with burger king and mcdonald's. and so what do you think?

2Speaker 2
01:20:06.98 – 01:20:11.18

You think that companies are starting to go. there's a chance to win market share by saving people money.

3Speaker 3
01:20:11.18 – 01:20:15.38

I think people have made their choices when it comes to fast food, and you have your favorites.

2Speaker 2
01:20:15.38 – 01:20:19.46

I'm about ready to make a bad choice. Now. I asked kelly to bring these as props.

3Speaker 3
01:20:20.08 – 01:20:29.96

And I had to try the pizza. never eat the props. I always tell people I haven't had a hot Costco hot dog. I have never had a costco hot. Can I tell you, that's a, that's a dog.

01:20:29.96 – 01:20:34.48

That's about my body weight. in hot dog. It's a quarter pounder. That's serious.

2Speaker 2
01:20:34.48 – 01:20:37.98

All right, so you're probably gonna have to take us to break, but I will.

3Speaker 3
01:20:39.22 – 01:20:48.64

Wow, this is pretty special. getting to be part of this, ken, Is it worth a dollar fifty? too big a bite? A dollar fifty, there you go. So here's the.

01:20:48.64 – 01:20:54.34

here's the lesson learned here. Yes. Inflation's annoying. It's pretty good. There's some great companies out there going.

01:20:54.34 – 01:21:11.80

We're not gonna take the bait and just increase prices, because inflation said so. And when you're debt-free, you have options, especially if you're a business owner. That's why we preach business owners run your business debt-free, go slow, And then you have options to be generous and to do what you want with that business. So there we go.

2Speaker 2
01:21:11.80 – 01:21:15.70

I just had a really unflattering view of myself in the video as I.

3Speaker 3
01:21:15.70 – 01:21:21.26

I'm glad that america can't smell this, can this room right now and hoof. Here's two.

2Speaker 2
01:21:22.32 – 01:21:35.64

Arizona tea costco and other companies that are saying you know what? We're gonna drop prices or keep prices low for the american people. That's right. We love you. Not a bad hot dog, but i'd stick with the pizza.

01:21:35.84 – 01:21:36.34

This is the ramp.

01:21:40.04 – 01:22:06.54

This is the ramsay show where we help you win with your money, win in your work and win in your relationships. Triple eight, eight, two, five, five, two, two, five is the phone number to jump in? I'm, ken coleman. george camel is joining me this shower. He'll take the lead and help out on those money questions and i'll take your income And work related questions, because all that goes together triple, eight, eight, two, five, five, Two, two, five.

01:22:06.54 – 01:22:13.16

we go up to canada. vancouver. british columbia is where vanessa is joining us. vanessa. How can we help?

1Speaker 1
01:22:14.12 – 01:22:31.42

Hey guys, uh, thanks for taking my call today. Um, i've been listening to your show now for a couple months and i'm super grateful to have found it. I love it, Um, so thank you for that. Um, i'm a financial advisor and i've been doing that for about eight years now. So I help my clients with investments, but I also lend.

01:22:31.42 – 01:22:53.30

So my question today is how do I make sure that i'm can still be successful in my career? but not make my clients feel like i'm selling them debt because I believe in the process and I love the baby steps. Um, so yeah, I just want to make sure i'm morally keeping to myself and and having strong integrity as well as pursuing my career. Yeah, well.

2Speaker 2
01:22:54.00 – 01:23:32.90

Let's address the moral component to this, because I think there's a pivot that's coming up and I think that's fine. But from a moral standpoint, You aren't in any way selling a product that is immoral or that is illegal, right? Right, yeah, so This is a mental thing where you're gonna have and, by the way, we've had this call before. we've heard this many times We totally get it, Um, but you're gonna have to cut yourself a break on this and go. Okay, Um, I am now misaligned With my values and my work, you know, my values and my work aren't matching up, but you're not doing anything wrong Morally, okay.

01:23:32.90 – 01:24:02.62

And so now it is a real discovery process to actually answer the question that you asked us, which is And I know george got some ideas. I got some ideas on how I can help people with their finances And help them win Without selling them a product that puts them into debt. and, uh, just off the top of your head, Just you know free flow here. What are some things in the financial industry that you could get qualified for? you could pivot to?

01:24:02.90 – 01:24:07.76

That you actually would be proud to sell to someone or to advise somebody within.

1Speaker 1
01:24:09.24 – 01:24:31.30

Yeah, well, I, you have my investment license. so, um, and I love investments way more than I do lending. so There's definitely something there. Um, I kind of put a stop to Extra learning, um, because you need certain credentials to move forward, just because I did recently have a baby. So, um, I kind of put that on the back burner, but um, yeah, I mean, that's a good thought for sure.

01:24:31.30 – 01:24:36.64

Maybe I should just look into an investment side of things, Um, because I know that can truly help people.

3Speaker 3
01:24:36.64 – 01:24:40.70

Where are you working right now? Is it a bank or is an actual investment firm?

1Speaker 1
01:24:41.78 – 01:24:42.76

It's a credit union.

3Speaker 3
01:24:42.76 – 01:25:01.42

Okay, that was my next question, because you could just work, for you know An investment brokerage that just focuses on investments that don't also sell debt products right, and that's something I would encourage you to look into, because I understand, at a bank, one of the big ways they make Money is selling debt products, but that's not the entirety of the you know investment industry.

1Speaker 1
01:25:02.50 – 01:25:03.38

Of course. Yeah.

v1.0.0.260408-1-a910ba6_os
