00:00.00 – 00:04.56

Hi, I'm Molly Conger, host of Weird Little Guys, a new podcast from Coolzone Media on

00:04.56 – 00:09.34

iHeartRadio. I've spent almost a decade researching right-wing extremism, digging into the lives

00:09.34 – 00:13.88

of people you wouldn't be wrong to call monsters. But if Scooby-Doo taught us one thing, it's

00:13.88 – 00:18.26

that there's a guy under that monster mask. The monsters in our political closets aren't

00:18.26 – 00:23.66

some unfathomable evil. They're just some weird guy. So join me every Thursday for a

00:23.66 – 00:27.48

look under the mask at the weird little guys trying to destroy America. Listen to Weird

00:27.48 – 00:31.56

Little Guys on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

5Speaker 5
00:35.92 – 00:41.20

For decades, the mafia had New York City in a stranglehold, with law enforcement seemingly

00:41.20 – 00:48.24

powerless to intervene. It uses terror to extort people. But the murder of Carmichael

1Speaker 1
00:48.24 – 00:54.98

Ante marked the beginning of the end. It sent the message that we can prosecute these people.

5Speaker 5
00:54.98 – 01:01.24

Listen to Law & Order, Criminal Justice System on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or

01:01.24 – 01:02.74

wherever you get your podcasts.

Topics featured in this episode may be disturbing to some listeners. Please take care while listening.

01:25.14 – 01:30.06

I'm Andrea Gunning. This is Betrayal Season 2, Bonus Episode 3.

01:33.18 – 01:38.52

We're back with a bonus episode we were not expecting to produce right now. Not for another

01:38.52 – 01:43.52

month at least. Ashley texted us with an urgent update, and we wanted to share it with you.

01:44.06 – 01:45.90

My producer, Carrie Hartman, took the call.

4Speaker 4
01:46.62 – 01:51.10

So, Ash, tell me what news you just received and how it came to you.

1Speaker 1
01:52.10 – 01:58.62

I received an email letting me know that Jason was being released.

4Speaker 4
01:59.38 – 02:08.50

You know, one of the big issues in this podcast has been about how much incarceration, jail

02:08.50 – 02:18.06

time, is given to perpetrators. And it seems to me that this is falling short of the sentence

02:18.06 – 02:18.88

that he was given.

1Speaker 1
02:18.88 – 02:28.66

Yes. So, Jason was sentenced to a year, but with time served. So, he'd already served

02:29.34 – 02:36.14

34 days, I think. So, they automatically took that off of his year sentence. And then, I

02:36.14 – 02:41.32

don't know for sure, but it seems like he got some type of good behavior reduction in

02:41.32 – 02:47.24

his sentence as well. So, it's close to two and a half months sooner than a year.

4Speaker 4
02:47.24 – 02:51.94

How is your family dealing with that? And is he going to be in your community again?

1Speaker 1
02:52.50 – 02:57.40

I mean, we all knew he was only spending a year in there. But I think the actuality of

02:57.40 – 03:03.84

it, and he's going to live less than two miles from me and the children, that's really what

03:03.84 – 03:06.86

scares me. I think we're all just anxious.

4Speaker 4
03:08.00 – 03:13.44

I know when Jason was out the first time, the hardest part for both you and for Avea

03:13.44 – 03:19.00

was when she would see him somewhere in public. It would cause terrible anxiety for her.

03:19.72 – 03:23.76

Have you walked her through how to handle that if it happens now?

1Speaker 1
03:25.06 – 03:32.66

No. I haven't even made space for that. I just had a thought of seeing him at our grocery

03:32.66 – 03:39.44

store or something. I think I would turn around and walk out and act like I didn't see him.

03:40.46 – 03:45.44

That will be a good conversation to have with Avea because she is gaining back so much of

03:45.44 – 03:51.74

her confidence. It's been so amazing these last two or three months to watch her be confident

03:51.74 – 03:58.60

and stick up for herself. She's in such a good place right now. I almost feel like she's

03:58.60 – 04:04.86

not going to let it pierce her vibe. She's happy. She's getting ready to start her senior

04:04.86 – 04:12.06

year in high school. She's hanging out with friends again and doing all those normal things

04:12.06 – 04:19.22

that a 17-year-old should be doing. I just really hope that when the time comes that

04:19.22 – 04:24.94

she sees him because I think it's inevitable. I hope she has the confidence to look at him

04:24.94 – 04:32.48

straight in the eye and flip him off, something that lets him know that he has no power over

04:32.48 – 04:33.66

her anymore.

4Speaker 4
04:34.56 – 04:38.28

Is there anything you can do to help with your own anxiety in the short term?

1Speaker 1
04:38.82 – 04:46.98

I'm having some family and a close friend of mine come stay with us for the next week

04:46.98 – 04:54.70

or two just because I don't know what his mindset is. I probably never really did know

04:54.70 – 05:01.70

this side of him, and I don't know what his limitations are. I try not to live in the

05:01.70 – 05:07.80

future, but hypothetically, we go to court, family court, and they tell him he has no

05:07.80 – 05:15.12

supervised visits with our youngest just because I don't know what to expect. Jason has had

05:15.12 – 05:22.76

such a poor-me attitude about all of this. I've lost my family. I lost my career. I lost

05:22.76 – 05:29.96

my home. Now the only thing that has him tied to our life is our youngest daughter,

05:30.30 – 05:35.96

and I just don't know what he's capable of. I mean, I don't think he'd want to do anything

05:35.96 – 05:41.28

to jeopardize his freedom, but there's crazy people all over the place.

4Speaker 4
05:42.32 – 05:49.42

What should Jason do? What can he do to make you feel comfortable that you are safe and

05:49.42 – 05:53.12

that your kids are safe and that he will respect your boundaries?

1Speaker 1
05:53.70 – 06:00.26

I want him to go away. I want him to move out of the state. His mother lives in another

06:00.26 – 06:06.90

state. I think it's what's best for him. I mean, he still has to live a life. He's still

06:06.90 – 06:14.84

fairly young, and hopefully that life doesn't include meeting somebody with children. I

06:14.84 – 06:22.52

want to pretend that he actually died, because he did. The Jason we knew doesn't exist.

4Speaker 4
06:23.80 – 06:29.24

You and Jason share one daughter, your youngest, who is 10 now. What do you expect in terms

06:29.24 – 06:29.94

of visitation?

1Speaker 1
06:30.44 – 06:35.82

If I had my way, I would terminate parental rights, but based off of conversations that

06:35.82 – 06:42.02

I've had with my lawyer, I know that that's not an option. Because I'm still so angry

06:42.02 – 06:50.02

and really passionate about everything, I thought it was best to hire somebody that

06:50.58 – 06:56.92

can take a stance from a neutral position to decide what was best for our youngest daughter.

06:58.34 – 07:05.80

He'll make recommendations to the family court on what he thinks is appropriate as far as

07:05.80 – 07:07.26

visitation, if any.

4Speaker 4
07:08.08 – 07:11.04

When do you think you'll feel really safe again?

1Speaker 1
07:11.76 – 07:19.10

Never. Maybe when our youngest is on her own, and she's an adult, and she can make

07:19.10 – 07:24.40

her own adult decisions. So if she chooses to have a relationship with him at that time,

07:24.50 – 07:32.16

then she's an adult. But I just don't feel safe. I don't think really anybody should.

2Speaker 2
07:34.06 – 07:38.94

On Sunday, August 6, the Victim Notification Network, also called Vine, texted Ashley with

07:38.94 – 07:48.02

a message. Jason Litton was released on 8-6-23. The release reason is, sentence served. In

07:48.02 – 07:55.36

an emergency, call 9-1-1. And after working with Ashley for over a year, Jason is out.

07:57.94 – 08:02.18
