Today is Monday, March 11th and I have an announcement, proceed, a very big announcement.

00:03:36.00 – 00:03:44.82

I think Duke is going to be just fine because goddammit, those guys are so hateable and they're right back to where they were. John Sherry put on a hell of a.

2Speaker 2
00:03:44.82 – 00:03:59.62

Performance after the game going shaking people's hands in the student section apologize. I'm sorry that we lost to UNC. And this is probably your senior night, too. Should've done better as the other half of the Cameron crazies are throwing water and ice onto the floor.

00:04:00.06 – 00:04:08.30

Probably throwing ice down to Kyle Filipowski to help him ice his calf, which was very inconsiderately run into by.

1Speaker 1
00:04:08.30 – 00:04:19.26

A UNC player earlier in the game, these guys are perfect. I'm so happy that they're exactly where they should be. Because I was nervous, I was like, Coach K, he's done John Shire, nice guy.

00:04:19.48 – 00:04:50.28

Don't really hate him, but just that scene choking on senior night against UNC. Those stupid fucking Cameron crazies that pretend that they're like the coolest, best fan base in the world. Throwing shit at college players. I was. I honestly think they should just not play with any fans anymore because Jay Billis, I hope he backs us up. Either put those people in jail or don't let them in the stadium because that was disgusting. They're all throwing shit. John Shire's apologizing, which is like, such a coach K thing to do.

00:04:50.52 – 00:05:05.04

Being like, I'm so sorry we let you down on senior night and that fucking loser Kyle Filipowski tripping people hank. This should make you happy because you should get your Duke fandom back up because you are such a piece of shit. The Pep, the Pep rally.

3Speaker 3
00:05:05.04 – 00:05:11.98

Was tough, too. Jared McCain was like singing. It was like a Texas A&M level Pep rally.

2Speaker 2
00:05:12.46 – 00:05:24.78

They're the worst. What do you think about the tripping Kyle Filipowski? He said It was unintentional and I think I have to believe him. Yeah, I mean, if you're playing a game full speed, things get slowed down. Also. He's coming off a severe leg injury.

00:05:24.82 – 00:05:26.34

Yeah, and so who knows?

1Speaker 1
00:05:26.46 – 00:05:36.44

Maybe some nerve damage. I said right away. It was clearly something that happened where it's like he can't control his legs anymore. I mean, we're lucky that he's walking. They should have arrested.

2Speaker 2
00:05:36.44 – 00:05:40.88

The UNC player for doing that, Kyle could have gotten so much worse. Hurt, Oh man, the UNC guys.

1Speaker 1
00:05:40.88 – 00:05:46.14

Were just giving him shit and then all these fucking losers see after the game. Where the U.N.C.

2Speaker 2
00:05:46.14 – 00:06:00.04

Players were like taunting the Cameron crazies. And then all the security staff from Duke came out onto the court and they were trying to, like, push the UNC. players off the court. They should not have security, the security guards should be arrested. I'm not a naRC, but someone had.

1Speaker 1
00:06:00.04 – 00:06:30.70

Pointed out that one of the people that put their hands on a U.N.C. player was actually like the assistant athletic director, or like, associate athletic director of facilities. Or some bullshit title that he probably knows someone, and he's probably married to a Krzyzewski or something. He was touching U.N.C. players, we got a problem in America and it's the Duke Cameron crazies throwing stuff and athletic directors touching players. I don't know if we can play Conference Championship week. We should get Jay Billis back on to answer for this.

00:06:30.80 – 00:06:31.02

You know what?

2Speaker 2
00:06:31.14 – 00:06:49.54

Nuance is lost amongst this generation. Big cat. So people probably won't even begin to understand what I'm saying. But if you're an employee of a school and you're putting your hands on people from another school, you should be put in jail. And the game is better without people that do that sort of thing, so you can say all you want. Oh, the athletic directors do a great job.

00:06:49.62 – 00:06:57.24

They contribute to the atmosphere of college basketball, but the reality is they're not part of the game. The players are part of the game. So answer for yourself, you fucking loser.

3Speaker 3
00:06:57.44 – 00:07:03.62

College basketball is better when Duke is the villain. So I'm happy that I actually agree, I'm happy for the tournament, I'm excited.

00:07:04.00 – 00:07:07.10

Shut everyone up. Yeah, it was just a great scene.

1Speaker 1
00:07:07.10 – 00:07:15.06

And just UNC winning the ACC outright on Duke's Court, Just Beautiful could have scripted it.

2Speaker 2
00:07:15.06 – 00:07:21.88

Better, I'm beginning to think that they coach that sort of thing at Duke. Yeah, there's been choking in these big games. Well, that and the legs.

00:07:22.26 – 00:07:25.00

Yeah, Duke has a leg problem. Yeah, Grayson Allen.

1Speaker 1
00:07:25.16 – 00:07:37.24

Just right to count. Phil Palsky, Phil Palsky's perfect. He's just molded into just of the fact that he wasn't actually injured. And we spent two weeks talking about storming courts and then he's tripping people, God damn.

00:07:37.30 – 00:07:41.78

They just have such a great knack of just making these guys just so.

2Speaker 2
00:07:41.78 – 00:07:49.82

Hateable. It was also funny the way that the Cameron crazies were dressed up because I do think they believe it's their senior night, too. Oh yeah, so they go hard, they go hard for that.

00:07:50.20 – 00:08:00.52

And they showed up in like wrestling costumes, and then they were so sad. They're all Dorks. at the end of the game, they're fucking dorks. It reminded me of John Cena admonishing us while wearing the Peacemaker costume.

00:08:00.70 – 00:08:03.90

Yeah, you had just a bunch of crying sad Duke fans wearing giant.

1Speaker 1
00:08:04.42 – 00:08:23.10

Rubber golden gloves. It was perfect. And it's crazy it's happening. And this year, Kyle Phil Palsky just being so hated because this is the year where white ballers are back, we're having. I saw the meme yesterday from a wine aisle at the liquor store that says, Exciting whites.

00:08:23.58 – 00:08:30.88

It was just underneath, it, said. Dalton. Connect, Cormac Ryan and Reed Shepard. Exciting whites, that's what.

2Speaker 2
00:08:30.88 – 00:08:35.98

College basketball has this year. Yeah, Dalton Connect is so good. Drop 40, he lost.

00:08:36.02 – 00:08:36.38

He lost.

1Speaker 1
00:08:36.46 – 00:08:51.52

But he was so good. I think actually Cal is getting ready to. We have it wrong with the hot seat, his team's playing so well and Kentucky's so exciting. He might get like, can you get a job for the afterlife, too? because he has a job for life.

00:08:51.62 – 00:08:52.90

Yeah, that's his contract.

2Speaker 2
00:08:53.06 – 00:09:02.18

Right, whenever he decides to off himself, whenever he dies, that's when they move off, just get a Ouija board and they can just ask Cal to drop a play. What about AI?

1Speaker 1
00:09:02.66 – 00:09:20.10

Terry Jones made himself down in Texas. Like to live forever. We just get an AI cal because he's. Kentucky is one of the probably the most exciting team, I'll say exciting, like, not the best team. They're the most exciting team because they don't really play a lot of defense, but they can fucking.

2Speaker 2
00:09:20.28 – 00:09:29.36

Every single guy can score. Jim Cloudipari Upload them, just upload them to the internet. I think Kentucky can definitely outscore any team in NCAA basketball, which is important.

00:09:29.38 – 00:09:41.08

That's important because typically you want to. You can't win games and lose them at the same time you can outscore your opponent. But yeah, Connect is fucking awesome, so fun to watch. But I'm beginning to think that I might be right about him.

00:09:41.14 – 00:09:48.08

He might be able to get shoved around, especially on defense, he doesn't play a lot of defense. Yeah, they lost, they lost, yeah.

00:09:48.20 – 00:09:58.12

And they don't really ask him to play defense either. They just say, go stand out there and try to get in the way of somebody that's driving at the basket. If you can, if it's not too much work. But it was, uh.

1Speaker 1
00:09:58.14 – 00:10:12.98

It was a fun day of college basketball. We also had Dan Hurley. Uh, I love this like storyline now that Dan Hurley, I think it's just the crowds just want Dan Hurley to fight him, but they want to fight Dan Hurley, and Dan Hurley just does not. He doesn't turn down any challenge.

00:10:13.04 – 00:10:18.68

There was a clip of him just being like, Yeah, come on down here and you'll get hurt to a Providence fan.

2Speaker 2
00:10:18.78 – 00:10:22.08

Yeah, he did that again, he did that last week. No, I know that's what I'm saying.

00:10:22.10 – 00:10:22.64

It's a theme.

1Speaker 1
00:10:22.64 – 00:10:39.98

And I cause I think the fans are like, we want to, we want to fight. Dan Hurley and most, most coaches will just keep walking, or if you're John Shire, you'll stop and apologize for something, but Dan Hurley just stands on the court after games. He's like, You want a piece, come on down here, and I believe him every single time.

00:10:40.12 – 00:10:41.78

Do you think it would make John Shire more?

2Speaker 2
00:10:41.78 – 00:10:59.28

Hateable if he, uh, if he did a press conference and he took responsibility for the fans throwing stuff on the court. If he was like, That's me, you know what? That's my problem and I need I need to personally work on that. He probably did let me look. Sometimes, if you take too much accountability for things, it makes you actually not accountable for anything at all.

00:10:59.38 – 00:11:00.06

Yeah, he did.

1Speaker 1
00:11:00.12 – 00:11:12.16

He did have a There's a part of you that feels like you let them down. Talking about the Duke fan base, it was senior night, we probably got caught up in some of that stuff. Um, so yeah, he was, oh wait, oh yeah, here we go. I just wanted to connect with the students.

00:11:12.22 – 00:11:26.30

They're amazing. I still need to digest the film and take a step back. I just thought they came out and hit us first. Oh so, yeah, he, he, he was talking about, uh, just, you know, apologizing to them, shaking hands. uh, yeah, he probably, he probably will apologize for all of them.

00:11:26.36 – 00:11:37.46

Jay Billis Should, that's true. Definitely. Uh, we also. I want to just throw a note out there. Um, I. So, right now, we're at the point where we're obviously looking at the bubble.

00:11:38.08 – 00:11:48.34

Uh, some teams are fighting for their lives. Max, I know you are, you're fighting tooth and nail. Uh. I really want USC to make it into the tournament. I've, I've circled, they're so much fun to watch.

00:11:48.38 – 00:12:01.90

They beat Arizona late on Saturday. They are fucking good now that they're fully healthy. And like, there are these weird teams. Indiana is another team where it's like, Indiana. They're not good record wise. They probably won't get in, but they're playing great basketball.

00:12:01.90 – 00:12:11.60

And that's like, maybe we need to do like a secondary term, I guess that is the nit, but just have the secondary tournament. Just be like teams that are really hot teams. No one.

2Speaker 2
00:12:11.60 – 00:12:20.94

Wants to play tournament well. The problem is that the, uh, the better teams from big schools if they're, if they're peaking at the right time, they don't make the NCAA tournament. They just turned down the nit. Yeah, I think they're above that.

00:12:20.98 – 00:12:21.86

Yeah, but uh.

3Speaker 3
00:12:22.06 – 00:12:25.58

Bronnie, Bronnie tournament run would be funny, but Brian, turn me around, Yeah, you see that.

1Speaker 1
00:12:25.58 – 00:12:29.06

Donkey hat in front of LeBron, who would have thought LeBron James would be at that game?

2Speaker 2
00:12:29.16 – 00:12:37.70

Oh, LeBron James had a great moment too with Jeannie Bus. Do you see that clip? No, there were two, two women, one on either side of LeBron. I don't know who this is, and they both just started.

00:12:37.70 – 00:12:50.08

Jeannie Bus is one of them. But they started grabbing them and like, leaning on them. And then you can read Lebron's lips and what he says, and he stops them from hugging him. And he's like, First of all, let me just say Happy International Women's Day to both of them. Love that.

00:12:50.24 – 00:12:54.52

And they just melt, they just worked. Yeah, Savannah's watching that, freaking out.

1Speaker 1
00:12:54.68 – 00:13:03.38

Yeah, love that from him. Some exciting whites. Uh, Max, do you want to talk at all about the bubble? because the bubble is is it's hot right now?

00:13:03.52 – 00:13:24.26

Indiana State losing was not good for the bubble. That was a great game and this is this is the time of year where I was. I was telling the guys before him, I just get caught up, like today, I, and it's obviously gambling related. But I watched maybe an hour and a half of Boston University play Lehigh in a semifinal game. I think both teams are under 500. And it was fucking electric.

00:13:24.48 – 00:13:30.18

Cause it was like a 20 point comeback and these games, just every game matters and every game's fun. Colgate was another one.

00:13:30.22 – 00:13:40.58

I watched, I watched way too much Patriot League today, way too much Patriots. Arch madness has been getting wild. arch madness is awesome. But yeah, like those random tournament games like, why am I watching Patriot League?

00:13:40.78 – 00:13:43.88

But Max Bubble Watch Who do we need to lose?

2Speaker 2
00:13:45.30 – 00:13:50.26

Um, New Mexico losing yesterday was big. We need Virginia to lose, we need JMU to win.

1Speaker 1
00:13:50.40 – 00:13:55.02

Yep, okay, um, they're up six right now with two minutes left in the semifinals.

2Speaker 2
00:13:55.14 – 00:14:02.66

Uh, the bubble sucks. is my first time in my entire life I've been in the bubble. It does suck. Like Nova didn't make it last year and they didn't make it, and I think 2012,.

00:14:03.04 – 00:14:14.40

But other than that, it's like, we're never. I'm not. I've never been on the bubble, I've never experienced this. It's so stressful. Every game feels like a tournament game. I really don't like the matchup.

00:14:14.50 – 00:14:23.30

I mean, we'll beat DePaul. if we lose. no, you'll, you'll be. yeah, we'll beat DePaul. And then Marquette. I, I really wish we were playing Creighton in the second round instead of Marquette.

1Speaker 1
00:14:23.90 – 00:14:30.56

Marquette gives us trouble. Yeah, but no colic, yeah, no colics coming back. Do they say that? I thought they were waiting for the tournament.

00:14:30.62 – 00:14:37.68

If they wait for the tournament for him, that's huge, but I think he's coming back. Okay, I feel like that, uh, they should wait.

2Speaker 2
00:14:37.94 – 00:14:43.92

But yeah, that'd be great. I would love for them to wait. They should, they should. yeah, they should. Who cares about the Big E's tournament?

00:14:43.92 – 00:14:49.30

You won the Big E's tournament last year, Colic, you were the player of the tournament. Just be healthy, we need a run in.

1Speaker 1
00:14:49.32 – 00:14:52.48

We need a run in March, don't worry about it. Wait, so what, where's Joe Lenardi have you?

2Speaker 2
00:14:52.48 – 00:14:58.38

Right now, the last team in, Oh, the last one, yes, so you need, you just need, yeah, you.

1Speaker 1
00:14:58.38 – 00:15:11.86

You were in full on bubble math, where you're like, we need no crazy teams to win tournaments. That, like a USC would, would kind of fuck you. Yes, Indiana, Indiana would fuck me.

2Speaker 2
00:15:11.94 – 00:15:22.58

You need no surprises, there's going to be. There's always like two or three. Yeah, Max, you got it, you are. You have to be like the grinch of any team out there that's thinking that they can make a run and get to the NCAA tournament.

00:15:22.72 – 00:15:38.52

And then, like USC, for example, like any team that has an outside chance, a puncher's chance of winning the conference. You just have to be there to take a big shit on them. And this is also we're last team in before Indiana State loss today, so I've seen that, like I've also seen that Indiana State Nova will be.

1Speaker 1
00:15:38.52 – 00:15:43.80

Like, kind of a toss up, but okay, so you're, you're, you're just bubble watch, baby, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:15:43.86 – 00:15:48.14

Bubble, it sucks, I never do that. Do you feel like you're too good for the bubble?

1Speaker 1
00:15:49.38 – 00:15:55.94

Yeah, definitely, yeah. I mean, you're 17 and 13, and Drexel, I know that's the worst part of it.

2Speaker 2
00:15:56.78 – 00:16:04.08

If we didn't just go winless in the big five, we w this wouldn't even be a question. You're not, yeah, you, you're the worst team in your city. Yeah, yeah.

00:16:04.60 – 00:16:10.58

And that includes a team that might be shaving points. Yeah, that's a. that's a. that's a wild story. Yeah, that is wild.

00:16:10.64 – 00:16:10.80

They.

1Speaker 1
00:16:10.80 – 00:16:14.74

Won today, that was the most obvious, like we got to win, we got to win one to get us.

2Speaker 2
00:16:14.74 – 00:16:33.80

I was looking at the four games that they had for Temple, that they had circled as like irregular betting patterns. And two of the four like, they only hit on a 50 rate. Yeah, so whatever the inside information was, that should actually just go to show you that. Uh, for us, whenever we think we have an edge at something, no, even when you have a real edge, you only win 50 of the time.

1Speaker 1
00:16:33.98 – 00:16:58.98

Dude, that was like, Uh, I mean it, it, it was. It's basically if someone tweets that they're throwing games and everyone bets it, the line goes. I think when UAB was like minus one and a half to seven, it was kind of like UFC on a Saturday night, which we'll talk about. But there was like one tweet that was like, Sean O'Malley is dealing with a rib injury. And then I got that tweeted and DM to me like seven times, like, dude, we all saw the tweet. This is not inside information.

00:16:59.08 – 00:17:11.22

You guys are all talking about it. He probably doesn't even have a rib injury. But yeah, as soon as it hits our eyes, we're the suckers. If, if, if. If information hits our eyes, everyone either knows or it's not real. Yeah, we're the late adopt.

00:17:11.24 – 00:17:16.10

We're the last people to shout out Akron. Yeah, shout out. Oh yeah, that was wild.

00:17:16.30 – 00:17:22.64

Yeah, uh, by the way. uh. So Wisconsin lost to Purdue today. Zach, he's a senior day, he's finally, finally done.

00:17:23.28 – 00:17:29.24

The bad news is, produce just got another one. I was, Uh, they have another one, they have a seven.

2Speaker 2
00:17:29.24 – 00:17:33.00

Two, his name's Wilbur. I thought you were talking about his, like, 10 year old brother, No.

1Speaker 1
00:17:33.12 – 00:17:42.14

They got another one brought out there to dunk on. A fisher-price is seven to Wilbur from Stockholm, Sweden. Okay, they just build them in a factory, that's just what they do, but I like that.

00:17:42.18 – 00:17:42.26

I.

2Speaker 2
00:17:42.26 – 00:17:54.88

Like that, there's that you have that continuity at certain colleges, where you're like at Purdue. They're always going to have a tall, lanky dude. And, uh, at Pittsburgh, they're going to have a guy with a giant ass and a duke. They're going to have a guy that tries to trip everyone.

00:17:55.02 – 00:17:59.48

Yeah, and a coach that apologize. Yes, I like, I like having these like long-term themes that I can.

1Speaker 1
00:17:59.48 – 00:18:08.54

Associate with schools Yes, but uh, yeah, it was a great. It was a great finale to the college basketball regular season. We're now in the Conference Championship week. I cannot wait.

4Speaker 4
00:18:08.54 – 00:18:16.62

For tickets punched, four, tickets punched more. Head State, Trey Wood, Drake and Stetson for the first time in school history. Yeah, love that.

1Speaker 1
00:18:16.90 – 00:18:33.86

Love that. So we, uh, yeah, we're starting to see the bracket, bracketology is going also in the women's, Uh, college basketball. We had one of the coolest brawls and ejections in the SEC Championship, where I think, like, how many, how many, how many women got ejected? I want to say, yeah, it was awesome.

00:18:34.06 – 00:18:46.10

Yeah, it was great. The the, the the the big the big girl on Uh, South Carolina Cardozo, that is a f. She's really, really good, she's going to hit the buzzer. Beater in the last year, which was one of the worst defensive things I've ever seen.

00:18:46.16 – 00:19:04.92

They just Tennessee was just like, we're just not going to guard that person who's has the ball, uh, but Cardozo, who's very good, that's. That might be the start of the Championship. DVD. I know they're undefeated and they're the best team. But her, having everyone's back like that and just being like, Here comes the train, get off the tracks. A couple of funny things about that.

2Speaker 2
00:19:05.02 – 00:19:18.22

One, when she ran her over, that was awesome, awesome. Two, the referee just being like, I'm, I don't get paid enough to deal with this. I'm not going to interfere with this fight. And then three, the one girl's brother jumping over the scorer's table to come down onto the court to get himself in the fight.

00:19:18.34 – 00:19:31.64

And then seeing how big they were and being like, No thanks, nevermind. And then immediately gets arrested for it. I was hoping, Is this fucked up? But if you gave me truth Serum, I want to see like a malice at the palace in the WBA, it would be cool.

00:19:31.70 – 00:19:42.84

I want to see, uh, and it would be funnier, you're going to get some. It would be a banner moment in the history of the internet, no matter what how it shook out. But can you imagine if, like Cardozo, went into the stands and beat the fuck out of a dude?

1Speaker 1
00:19:43.04 – 00:19:58.44

It would be awesome, that would be so fun, so sick. Yeah, it was, uh, there was a moment where I think they had gotten it wrong on the broadcast. But it was going to be just an electric first round of the tournament where they were explaining it. And they're like, everyone who's ejected is now not eligible to play in the first round.

00:19:58.48 – 00:20:14.38

It turns out it was just everyone who was ejected for fighting. Yeah, but for a moment there, it was like, Uh, South Carolina is going to play their first round game with six players, which they would have won anyway. But it was. I was like, Oh, this would. This is going to be incredible to watch, but uh, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:20:14.38 – 00:20:18.74

That was cool. South Carolina is undefeated. The Lady Cox doing some big things, yeah, and.

1Speaker 1
00:20:18.86 – 00:20:31.76

Uh, Steph Kerr or Kaitlin Clark breaks Steph Curry's record? Uh, so yeah, we got. And she also remade Kobe's pictures for the Big 10 tournament championship. That was a little much.

2Speaker 2
00:20:32.00 – 00:20:50.52

So I think celebrating Big 10 Championship. I think the way it worked was like there was. There was a lady, I think she was a reporter in the locker room that asked her, Hey, I understand where you do this. Oh, I understand how it happens. But if you're Kaitlin Clark, you got to be smart and say no. When I win the NCAA Championship, then I'll have the jacket ready to go.

00:20:50.56 – 00:20:56.62

Cause, first of all, you can't remake that picture without that jacket, right? or at least a similar jacket. the jacket makes the picture, yeah.

00:20:57.18 – 00:21:00.58

That was that was a little much, but I like.

1Speaker 1
00:21:00.58 – 00:21:10.40

It still because Kaitlin Clark gets people angry. Yeah, no matter what she does, she gets people angry. She's great, she's great for the sport, and she's great for sports discourse.

00:21:10.66 – 00:21:11.24

Uh, okay.

2Speaker 2
00:21:11.40 – 00:21:19.36

I also think Kim Mulkey, the coach at LSU, is great for discourse. She's great. Cause, no matter, no matter what she says afterwards, you can be like, I can't believe, she said that.

1Speaker 1
00:21:19.36 – 00:21:28.22

Yeah, no, and she just uses what? was her quote? Uh, wait, how do you spell? is it m U L K E y?

2Speaker 2
00:21:28.42 – 00:21:33.10

She also gets dressed up like Cruella de Vil on Acid, which is always fun to watch.

1Speaker 1
00:21:33.42 – 00:21:44.30

Yeah, she had a great quote, after what was it? Uh, oh, she was just. She was actually mad at her team for not like for the big ones, not going after her. I agree.

00:21:44.48 – 00:21:49.80

Yeah, but you don't hear that. You got big boy, that was some little boy ass play. Yeah, Kim Mulkey said it.

00:21:49.86 – 00:21:54.76

Yeah, so whatever, yeah, she's, she's, she's something else too, yeah.

00:21:55.06 – 00:21:55.68

Uh, okay.

00:21:57.42 – 00:21:58.52

Can you imagine being a waiter?

2Speaker 2
00:21:58.52 – 00:22:06.00

At a restaurant and Kim Mulkey comes to your table. I would just quit, Yeah, I would just be like, what holidays going on right now? I would just be like, Fuck this.

00:22:06.06 – 00:22:06.84

I don't get paid enough.

1Speaker 1
00:22:06.96 – 00:22:10.48

Yeah, are you in a bachelorette party? What's going on right now? Why are you dressed like?

2Speaker 2
00:22:10.48 – 00:22:14.64

That No, that's a she lives life like she's celebrating her own divorce party.

1Speaker 1
00:22:14.74 – 00:22:17.46

Yeah, constantly. yes, all the time, constantly.

00:22:17.90 – 00:22:25.20

Uh, okay, before we talk, let's talk some NFL, let's talk some free agency. Hey sports fans looking for a new show to binge?

2Speaker 2
00:22:25.40 – 00:22:37.10

Check out Mr. Throwback on Peacock. Follow Danny, A. down on his luck memorabilia dealer looking for redemption by reuniting with his middle school teammate, NBA legend Steph Curry. That's right, NBA great.

00:22:37.16 – 00:22:47.62

Steph Curry goes from the court to the screen. And this comedy mockumentary, that's pure gold. It's got basketball style and epic lie that's bound to come out eventually. You know what they say?

00:22:47.78 – 00:22:55.72

Ball don't lie, but sometimes people do. Don't miss Steph Curry in his first scripted TV role, Mr. Throwback, streaming now only on Peacock.

1Speaker 1
00:22:55.76 – 00:22:56.24

Okay.

00:22:57.90 – 00:23:07.56

Matt Jones traded to the Jaguars. Coming home, that was the saddest part of that chef retreat. He's a duval guy, he's like he played high school football in Jacksonville, yeah.

00:23:07.58 – 00:23:07.68

He's.

2Speaker 2
00:23:07.68 – 00:23:16.82

Going back to Jacksonville, is Trevor Lawrence going to be looking over his shoulder? That'll be a that'll be a narrative. Hey, how long were you in love with Mac Jones for?

3Speaker 3
00:23:17.70 – 00:23:22.06

Probably like five games, it was never, it was never, I was never fully convinced. Can I guess?

1Speaker 1
00:23:22.06 – 00:23:27.58

What game it did it for you? Uh, the snow game? No, I thought it was the Chargers game. Remember that? yeah?

00:23:27.58 – 00:23:40.58

Like, there was a game first couple of weeks in the Covid, was it not? No, it wasn't the two years ago where it was like, I think he had like a 99 yard drive and you guys were like, he's the he's the next. TOM Brady Well, we went to the playoffs and I was like.

3Speaker 3
00:23:40.58 – 00:23:46.48

All right, new quarterback, Pro Bowl, playoff, Pro Bowl, Belichick, he'll figure it out.

2Speaker 2
00:23:46.56 – 00:23:54.70

You remember that Monday night game where Belichick was like, you're not going to pass the ball at all? Yeah, that was great, that was a great game. Yeah, um, so are you ready to say?

1Speaker 1
00:23:54.70 – 00:24:14.40

He's not the guy, Yeah, I think he. I think you had already said it. We now have, though. The 2021 draft in record time might be the worst quarterback draft of all time. Because Trevor Lawrence now, now, so the guy Mack Jones was drafted 15th. Trevor Lawrence first. Mack Jones has already his backup.

00:24:14.72 – 00:24:19.68

And like, I don't know if Mack Jones, how many more games is he going to play in the?

3Speaker 3
00:24:19.68 – 00:24:27.50

N.F.L. that's gotta be tough for the ego, too, cause they're the same age, they grew up highly recruited, going to quarterback camps. It was always, you know, they were always in the conversation together.

00:24:28.08 – 00:24:32.42

Right, he got drafted starting quarterback and now he has to back up Trevor.

2Speaker 2
00:24:32.42 – 00:24:35.84

Lawrence That's going to be very weird, someone that he's known his entire life. Instantly so.

1Speaker 1
00:24:35.84 – 00:24:42.98

Yeah, in his own town, yeah. So Trevor Lawrence, uh, drafted first Zach Wilson, who's the best of?

2Speaker 2
00:24:42.98 – 00:24:56.76

The class. But he also just took a step back. I'm going to, I'm going to miss the Jets Patriots Games where Zach Wilson, Mack Jones just going back and forth, playing tummy sticks. Yeah, seeing who can throw the saddest interception, just just suck it.

00:24:57.06 – 00:24:58.64

Those were such great games, the.

1Speaker 1
00:24:58.74 – 00:25:16.92

Uh, so, yeah. Trevor Lawrence number one, Zach Wilson to Trey Lance, three. He's in witness protection. The the second best quarterback in this draft class is Justin Fields, who's drafted 11th, who, like his, his trade value seems to be plummeting by the second. Where it's like, now, the bears might keep him.

00:25:17.10 – 00:25:18.78

Uh, and then? Mack Jones, 15.

00:25:18.98 – 00:25:32.72

So there's there's five, five quarterbacks drafted in the first 15 picks in that 2021 draft, and, uh, four out of five of them. Just three years, or in the fourth year, we'll be on different teams, we should do it.

00:25:32.76 – 00:25:34.32

Let's redraft that draft.

2Speaker 2
00:25:34.32 – 00:25:44.28

Class number one Trevor Lawrence I'm going to take Justin Fields. Uh, yeah, I'd probably. yeah, Trevor Lawrence.

00:25:44.74 – 00:25:57.00

Uh, number two, I'll go Trevor, number three, Trey Lance. you never know, I think, I think, I think Trey Lance has been out of a job for long enough. Where you forget how bad he looked when he did play. So now it's like, think about the upside.

00:25:57.26 – 00:25:57.78

Yeah, you know what?

1Speaker 1
00:25:57.82 – 00:26:02.26

Actually, my number one, I'm going to change it, I'm going to go. Jamar Chase, Okay, that's good.

00:26:02.32 – 00:26:07.40

Yeah, Chase number one, pay Sewell number two, that would, that would be better. Uh, yeah.

00:26:07.56 – 00:26:14.28

Micah Parsons also was drafted, uh, 12th, so there were four of those terrible quarterbacks taken.

2Speaker 2
00:26:14.28 – 00:26:18.34

Before Micah, say something nice about Mac Jones, I'd rather have Mac Jones than Zach Wilson.

3Speaker 3
00:26:20.88 – 00:26:25.16

I don't know, yeah, I don't know. Wilson in the right system, I don't know.

00:26:25.30 – 00:26:26.02

As a backup.

1Speaker 1
00:26:27.12 – 00:26:32.42

I don't know, I think Matt Jones might have the worst, uh, worst vibes, vibes, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:26:32.62 – 00:26:36.40

Worse than Zach Wilson's vibes, Zach Wilson remember, like the Chiefs game.

1Speaker 1
00:26:36.42 – 00:26:45.96

He wasn't supposed to play last year and he, he came in and he tried his hardest. Yeah, Mac Jones, like all reports are, that he's just been a pouty little.

2Speaker 2
00:26:45.96 – 00:26:55.38

Bitch the problem with Mac Jones? Also, he's got Zach Wilson, has a lot of bad tape that will follow him around. But I don't think he has a single moment that's as bad as getting stiff armed.

1Speaker 1
00:26:55.38 – 00:27:09.98

Against the Raiders and the the the hurt ankle when he, uh, came out to field. And if you actually had to say, like, who would you rather have, you would? I think you'd have to take Zach Wilson just from arm strength, like you'd like, throw everything else out, yeah.

00:27:09.98 – 00:27:15.82

Like, don't even talk about, you know, the guys, whatever, just like guy has, they both stink, but one guy has.

2Speaker 2
00:27:15.82 – 00:27:23.46

A really strong arm, the other guy doesn't. But what about this? Mac Jones gives off better backup quarterback vibes. I don't think so.

00:27:23.56 – 00:27:26.24

I think Zach Wilson, the arms, the arm strength is too much.

1Speaker 1
00:27:26.32 – 00:27:35.54

He was a backup quarterback this year and he did a bad job at it. He, like, didn't he talk to? The Jetson? was like, This is a shit show, it was like leaking information. That's the backup quarterback.

00:27:35.88 – 00:27:50.20

We have tape of him as a backup quarterback being like, not a good backup quarterback because he was just pouting and and leaking stuff. Zach Wilson was a backup quarterback and he should have even been playing. And he's like, I'm going to fucking try my hardest, I don't know, I don't think it's.

2Speaker 2
00:27:50.20 – 00:28:00.14

Even close, I'm. But when I say I would take Mac Jones for the vibes, I'm saying that. More along the lines of, like, he's not as talented as Zach Wilson, so he feels like a better backup quarterback.

1Speaker 1
00:28:00.14 – 00:28:16.34

To me, I think, I think Mac Jones was like he would actively like, like, oh, like, he sees, you know, like, uh, something loose in a chair that Trevor Lawrence is about to sit in. He's like, I'm going to let him just sit there so he can break his leg, or Trevor, like, get in, Trevor.

2Speaker 2
00:28:16.44 – 00:28:21.14

Leave some behind. Doesn't tell him that he left his wallet in the room, like, like he sees Trevor's.

1Speaker 1
00:28:21.14 – 00:28:28.98

Wife He's like, Oh yeah, you should have been with us last night. We were out with, uh, we were out to like 3.00 a.m. Partying it up. What I don't know.

00:28:29.08 – 00:28:35.84

It's an interest, doesn't that feel like that's that's kind of what the vibe? Well, Okay, so anti-backup quarterback, yeah.

00:28:35.90 – 00:28:45.62

So they got. I think he needs to just go back to Tuscaloosa and just make a shit load of money. Being like, member when I was awesome, because he was awesome, he was very good, can't take that away from him.

2Speaker 2
00:28:45.68 – 00:28:49.18

They got a six round pick for him. Do you think that Zach Wilson's, he's going to fetch a six?

1Speaker 1
00:28:49.18 – 00:29:04.68

Rounder No, they'll probably have to, they'll probably have to add a pick. The Jets will probably give one back. Yeah, they'll probably have to add a pick. But that's also because Zach Wilson has, like, he had to play the whole string out this year. And it was like, Really, you know?

00:29:04.74 – 00:29:15.04

Oh yeah, he really, really isn't good. Yeah, um, I just, yeah. I think I'd rather have Zach Wilson around. As long as your mom's not there, I was going to say, like, As long as your mom's not there.

00:29:15.22 – 00:29:19.78

What Trevor Lawrence's mom looked like? No, you mean, Mack Jones? Oh, Trevor Lawrence. Yeah, uh.

2Speaker 2
00:29:19.78 – 00:29:23.66

I don't know is she the type of lady that you would want Mack Jones around or not?

1Speaker 1
00:29:24.64 – 00:29:27.36

Or Zach Wilson, I'm going to guess, No, yeah, wait, you're saying Zach Wilson, Zach Wilson.

00:29:27.40 – 00:29:36.36

Yeah, yeah, I don't think, yeah. ZaCh WiLson I think I could be sold on Zach Wilson as a backup, as there's a project, Zach Wilson.

00:29:36.52 – 00:29:54.40

Here's the other thing Zach Wilson definitely has the could win you a crazy game. If he comes in and like, Cause he's, he's done it, he did it. Week one, Mac Jones doesn't have that. Like, if we're watching Week 15. And Trevor Lawrence goes down with a concussion in the first quarter or first quarter, you're like, they're fucked.

00:29:54.76 – 00:29:59.42

Wherever Zach Wilson ends up, if that happens, you're like, Maybe I think Mac Jones a gunslinger.

2Speaker 2
00:29:59.42 – 00:30:13.42

Mac Jones could come in and preserve a lead provided you were up by 20 points. Hand the ball, hand the ball off. He'll be good at kneeling. Zach Wilson once every like four or five games is going to be able to throw for like 270 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions.

00:30:13.60 – 00:30:14.40

Yeah, exactly.

1Speaker 1
00:30:14.40 – 00:30:28.56

Yeah, you want. And I do think that from everything that's been said about Zach Wilson, he's not the worst. He he's learned he was a bad teammate, but he's learned from his mistakes. And he remember he had that whole thing where he was still kind of blaming everyone. He's kind of learned from that.

00:30:28.64 – 00:30:31.62

It felt like everyone started feeling bad for him and he had the whole.

2Speaker 2
00:30:31.78 – 00:30:44.28

The whole story arc, Uh, okay, you think Mac is going to benefit from a change of scenery, though? No, we can, we can. We can talk about the, Uh, the Patriots Dynasty documentary later. But, uh, they really make Belichick seem like an asshole, yeah.

00:30:44.36 – 00:30:46.04

I mean, and I will say the only thing you.

1Speaker 1
00:30:46.04 – 00:30:56.76

Could say in Pro Mac Jones is the Patriots did not set him up for success. That's a fact. Like you, there's parts of this that he did not. He was not put in the best position.

00:30:57.34 – 00:31:11.12

Um, but still, I don't, I don't. I don't think it's like Mac Jones is is about to be a multi-time pro bowler. And they just they fucked it up in someone else, like, wouldn't you say Justin Fields has a better chance of like?

2Speaker 2
00:31:11.52 – 00:31:24.28

Having a really good second part of his career, absolutely, Mac Mac Jones, I think he would. He'd benefit greatly if he just took on the chase. Daniel Mold, where he just kind of like, I don't think he's got that perfect. If he was just in a room and didn't say anything for the.

1Speaker 1
00:31:24.28 – 00:31:38.88

Next 10 years and still got paid. Like Hank, you're not nervous at all. That Mac Jones, like, you're going to be, you know, you traded him in division. You're not like, Oh man, this is going to suck. Five years from now, I have that, like, Mac Jones somehow is good. I mean, sorry.

00:31:39.00 – 00:31:53.90

In conference like Justin Fields, I do have that in the back of my head that there's a world where he could end up being pretty good. No, I have zero fear. Yeah, uh, okay. Other news Baker a hundred million dollar contract, 50 million guaranteed.

00:31:54.92 – 00:32:13.56

Awesome story. Yep, like, the guy was basically he was. He won. He won a playoff game for the Browns, who had not been in the playoffs in forever. Gets, you know, that falls apart, goes to the Panthers, gets cut from the Panthers. he did ask for his cut. His release goes to the Rams.

00:32:13.60 – 00:32:29.68

Basically, like, it's over for Baker. Plays decent enough down the stretch for the Rams that he gets a one year, $4 million contract with the box. Everyone has written him off, and now he's getting a three year, a hundred million dollar, 50 million guaranteed. I'm just happy for Baker, I'm very happy for him.

00:32:29.74 – 00:32:30.56

I always thought.

2Speaker 2
00:32:30.56 – 00:32:41.62

He got a raw deal from the Browns. So, uh, it's. It's good to see a guy that bets on himself, hits on it, it's cool. I think he's a good fit for that team. You probably aren't in a position where you'd be able to draft a good quarterback anyways.

00:32:42.18 – 00:32:52.58

Why bring in a new quarterback if you already got a guy that won a playoff game now? It was against the Eagles, who were basically the worst team in the NFL at the time. But he still won a playoff game. So I'm very happy for.

1Speaker 1
00:32:52.58 – 00:33:11.16

BakEr Yeah, he was he. It felt like his career was teetering for a minute there and now he gets this money, which is also good. Because it wasn't that story, like a few months ago. That baker basically got robbed of a lot of his money, which is crazy, like one of his closest advisors. So I'm like, extra happy for Baker for this.

00:33:11.46 – 00:33:19.28

Um, we also had Jerry Judy to the Browns, which I'm sure I bet you he's going to end up being good. The Broncos are just getting rid of everybody.

2Speaker 2
00:33:19.60 – 00:33:28.40

Jerry Judy used to be good, I don't know what happened to him last year. Well, Russell Wilson's Russell Wilson, but Cortland Sutton still looked pretty good at times last year. I, Jerry Judy did.

1Speaker 1
00:33:28.40 – 00:33:42.28

Not, oh, good. Breaking moves, breaking moves, breaking moves. Adam Schefter reports. Nine time Pro Bowl QB and former Super Bowl champ Russell Wilson plans to sign with the Pittsburgh.

2Speaker 2
00:33:43.56 – 00:33:56.40

Steelers this early sources. This is perfect for a guy that loves bathrooms and loves toilets. Yeah, the Pittsburgh bathroom, big cat, the Pittsburgh toilet, which is just a toilet in any room.

00:33:56.40 – 00:34:02.02

Yep, it can be in a kitchen, it's usually in the basement, it can be in a basement. I've also I've seen some that are in the kitchen.

00:34:02.02 – 00:34:08.36

Yeah, the basement is usually where, like that's where the high-class Pittsburgh's toilet, however many rooms he has, that's how many toilets he's.

1Speaker 1
00:34:08.36 – 00:34:18.00

Going to have in this house also huge for him. Black is a very slimming color, so he might've just chosen that purely because of, uh, that simple fact he would have looked very fat in.

2Speaker 2
00:34:18.00 – 00:34:25.84

A giant's uniform, the chunkiness and those silver pants make his ass look big. Yeah, uh. Russell Wilson just released a statement in video form. Do you want to listen to his video live?

00:34:25.94 – 00:34:32.40

I would love to the Russell Wilson announcement. It says. You're 13 grateful steelers. Let's see what Russ has to say.

00:34:32.82 – 00:34:34.50

Be careful, it's spicy.

1Speaker 1
00:34:35.12 – 00:34:35.64

Oh.

00:34:38.30 – 00:34:39.74

This was smart play.

00:34:47.82 – 00:34:53.76

I don't think we can play this on YouTube or Rumble. Okay, uh, it's just. But he played.

2Speaker 2
00:34:53.76 – 00:35:00.88

Renegade, It's a bunch of terrible towels being waved around, He played, Renegade, That's awesome, that's okay.

00:35:01.00 – 00:35:04.26

Good, good job, Russell Wilson, I'd say, Russell Wilson.

1Speaker 1
00:35:04.26 – 00:35:16.98

Gets it? This just went, literally, this is how stupid my brain is. It went from, Uh, what the fuck are the Steelers doing? to That was genius. Yeah, oh, if he, him and Mike Tomlin are not.

2Speaker 2
00:35:16.98 – 00:35:21.94

Going to get along, I just want to, I want to call that right now, I think they'll get along.

1Speaker 1
00:35:21.94 – 00:35:26.02

For a little bit, I don't know Mike Tom would be like, this guy's annoying cause, Mike Tomlin.

2Speaker 2
00:35:26.02 – 00:35:31.16

And Sean Payton are, like, very similar in terms of like, if he thought he was escaping, having a hard.

1Speaker 1
00:35:31.16 – 00:35:41.60

Ass head coach by leaving the Broncos. But this is what we talked about, cause I I didn't. He doesn't have the guaranteed starting job, I would assume like he's going to have to play for it.

2Speaker 2
00:35:41.64 – 00:35:45.60

Every job that's, Tomlin, every job is for competition, but that that definitely, I mean.

1Speaker 1
00:35:45.62 – 00:35:55.60

With Kenny and Mason, Rudolph like, he's going to have to play for his job. So it's not a guarantee that Russ is the starting quarterback. I I love this for Pittsburgh, it's something to talk about here, yeah.

00:35:56.18 – 00:36:06.72

And I would love for Big Ben to get involved, somehow, being like, I'll show you the ropes, cause that's just a buddy cop film that I need to see Big Ben and Russell Wilson just.

2Speaker 2
00:36:06.72 – 00:36:11.22

They, they don't have anything in common. Oh, no, they're big. Ben is a born again Christian. Oh, okay.

00:36:11.22 – 00:36:16.52

He's a new man, he's going to show you. They're going to go to church together, for sure. yeah, they're going to worship together.

00:36:16.60 – 00:36:17.78

They probably won't go to the bar together.

1Speaker 1
00:36:18.38 – 00:36:21.98

Probably not, probably not. Yeah, Russell does love bathrooms, though. Yeah, that's true.

00:36:22.02 – 00:36:29.76

Russell Wilson, a Pittsburgh steeler What crazy breaking moves, crazy breaking moves. I think it'll work in black and gold. Yeah, no, that's what I'm saying.

00:36:29.84 – 00:36:50.16

Like, I do think that he probably that had to have at least 10 of the of his decision-making. Was like, which color do I look best in black? Yeah, like, if I had to sign with the N.FL team right now, I'd probably sign with the Steelers just so that I don't look fat like that's. That's just as simple as it could get. And then Kevin Bayard, signed by the Bears Max.

00:36:50.16 – 00:36:53.40

Is he washed or the Eagles was the Eagles defense?

2Speaker 2
00:36:53.40 – 00:36:59.72

So bad that we can't judge it. Um, I don't know. You get cut from two, two teams in one year, I.

1Speaker 1
00:36:59.72 – 00:37:13.84

Feel like that kind of tells you what a guy is. I like it, I like it. Just because the Bears going into the draft like, fill as many holes in free agency that you then can take who? Cause? Like they need they needed safety, they need a wide, another wide receiver.

00:37:13.92 – 00:37:26.72

They need some offensive line help, they need some defensive line help. If you can get a few of those in free agency, then the draft you're not. Like overextending yourself. Cause, like, we need to fill this hole so you can actually take best, best player available, yeah.

00:37:26.84 – 00:37:27.80

Bayard was one of those guys.

2Speaker 2
00:37:27.80 – 00:37:32.04

That everyone thought would be a super big impact last year, like he was still the best in the league.

1Speaker 1
00:37:32.32 – 00:37:51.24

I don't think that's the case anymore. Yeah, but whatever, a veteran, uh, and like I said, you want to get to a spot where you can take best player available. I also want to just say something real quick. Um, and this is not specifically. This is not for any of those sickos and perverts in Green Bay who are going viral on Tik Tok.

00:37:51.40 – 00:38:06.50

Every time I say something like this, there's been a lot of freaking out this week. Cause like the kill, it's basically sitting here for two months, waiting for the draft. Everything's going to be said. Um, Caleb Williams is going to be really good, he's going to be really fucking good in the NFL.

00:38:06.50 – 00:38:15.44

He's going to be really good for the bears. I feel that in my bones. I know that people will take this clip and in three years they'll shove it back in my face. But I do not care. I'll say it right now, everyone.

00:38:15.44 – 00:38:19.10

Just chill out. Kale Williams is getting drafted by the Bears and he's going to be a.

2Speaker 2
00:38:19.10 – 00:38:23.02

Franchise quarterback for the Bears. You just want to get that out there. I've been feeling it all.

1Speaker 1
00:38:23.02 – 00:38:47.38

Weekend cause everyone's freaking out and I do think that I'll be the first to put my hand up. Um, I think as a fan base, we've probably overrated Justin Fields a little bit. And you can see it by the fact that people aren't clamoring for a trade. I still think there's something there that he could be good. But you know, there's. There's a little hand wringing, being like, you know, it's this fear of what if he ends up being this incredible? Don't worry.

2Speaker 2
00:38:47.60 – 00:39:14.24

Kale Williams is going to be awesome. So I think I think some of the fear with Justin Fields is the uncertainty and also the way that his contract is set to kick in. Verse signing, Uh, like an established veteran, like, if you get Kirk Cousins and you're the Falcons, you're like, Well, we want to take a swing at winning now. It's not as risky of a process, even though you're going to pay him a fuckload of money. It's not as risky as getting getting Justin in the door and saying, Okay. We're going to take a chance on him and see how he pans out and then we can make a decision about the longterm.

00:39:14.72 – 00:39:29.38

And then, given how many good quarterbacks apparently there are on this draft, I think a lot of teams are like, why? Yeah, why are we going to pay him? In one year when we can just draft a guy who we think is pretty good and pay that guy no money for the next four years? But, uh, just everyone, relax.

1Speaker 1
00:39:29.84 – 00:39:38.76

Kale Williams is going to be awesome. I really, really do feel it and Hank's giving me a little smirk. And that's fine because I know that this will be clipped. That's fine, I feel it.

00:39:38.84 – 00:39:52.58

And I'll in three years, I'll feel it even more. He's going to be fucking sick. Everyone just chill out. This is the time when the draft specifically tries to fuck with people's heads and they pick everyone apart. So much that you spend there.

00:39:52.84 – 00:39:56.34

Like, I wish the draft was tomorrow, get it done with.

2Speaker 2
00:39:56.56 – 00:40:06.78

There's a lot of, a lot of smoke screens out there. I want. I want some a lot of bad information to come out about Caleb Williams. Just just to see if the bears are dumb enough to pass on them. No, they're not, they're not.

00:40:06.84 – 00:40:08.56

They're not no team would be dumb enough to.

1Speaker 1
00:40:08.56 – 00:40:22.54

And congrats, Hank, that you're going to get a new quarterback. That was that was the Matt Jones trade was very, I mean, we all knew it. But it's now official. You're getting a new quarterback. You don't have to do any of the hand wringing. Not that you were, but you get a new quarterback.

2Speaker 2
00:40:22.76 – 00:40:31.80

James Boyce That's who you want, Okay, that's going to be. I get. We talked about this on Friday, but one of us is going to make the wrong choice, not me.

00:40:32.54 – 00:40:39.16

I already made the choice, not you. Speaking of Kirk cousins, did you see his grill? Yes, he got a grill last week.

00:40:39.30 – 00:40:49.18

Yeah, it's like all gold. He went to the dentist and I. It was a temporary grill that they put in to go along with, like the Kirko change image that he has. I have a theory about it, okay?

00:40:49.26 – 00:41:10.14

Much like Taylor Swift and attending that jets game so that when people googled Taylor Swift Jets, her private jets show up. I think Kirk cousins got that grill so that people when they tried to look up. The tasteless, bland meat that he used to cook on his grill on tin foil, the unseasoned chicken on tin foil on his grill, it was steak, was it steak?

00:41:10.16 – 00:41:22.68

It was steak, it looked like a it looked like whatever the fuck that Stingray is going to give birth to. It looked like some bland ass seafood or something. But I think I think he did that so that people would see that grill instead of his food that he cooks, yeah.

00:41:22.84 – 00:41:32.30

Which is smart, very smart, I think. Kirk Cousins, it's the Disney frozen. say what you want about Kirk Cousins. But, uh, the man plays like 20 dimensional chess, whether it be with his.

1Speaker 1
00:41:32.30 – 00:41:46.06

Contracts or his Google search results. I also shout out Kirk Cousins, cause we made a lot, a big fucking deal about, uh, Aaron Rogers, Achilles, the all year and how he's back, and he beat science. I saw Kirk cousins.

00:41:46.22 – 00:42:00.54

I think it was one of his son's birthdays. He was at like, a ropes course and he was 40 feet in the air, like doing a Walenda across a rope. I was like, that Achilles is good to go, yeah, he said, like, and he's not making a big deal of it.

00:42:00.56 – 00:42:04.34

Yeah, he's just he's just good to go. yeah, that's just good clean living, yeah.

00:42:04.44 – 00:42:04.54

That's.

2Speaker 2
00:42:04.54 – 00:42:08.98

What not not mainlining ayahuasca will do for you? So shout out Kirk cousins. Yeah, it looks.

1Speaker 1
00:42:08.98 – 00:42:13.60

Like he might be the Falcons quarterback, we'll see. That's what everyone it's, either Falcons.

2Speaker 2
00:42:13.60 – 00:42:18.10

Or Vikings? Well, his, his wife is from Georgia. Yeah, so it's a done deal, and it also.

1Speaker 1
00:42:18.76 – 00:42:24.10

Isn't it perfect? It's Falcons or Vikings, they're kind of like, long lost, yeah, the other side of.

2Speaker 2
00:42:24.10 – 00:42:29.10

The same like that's the, uh, the Morton Anderson kick, yeah, was Falcons over Vikings now? maybe.

1Speaker 1
00:42:29.10 – 00:42:35.70

KIRK Cousins Uh, okay, anything else? Before we get to Who's back? UFC Two 99 was awesome. I don't know if anyone had in there.

00:42:35.74 – 00:42:39.68

Who's back? It was also just great to see Dustin Poirier beat the.

2Speaker 2
00:42:39.68 – 00:42:45.96

Fuck out of a French guy, Uh, that was just cool. Yeah, for me, I'm a casual, openly admitted.

00:42:46.08 – 00:42:52.12

I watched the big fights. That's about it, the sound that the knee made against, was it the nose or the.

1Speaker 1
00:42:52.12 – 00:42:58.32

Mouth, she knows, he. Sean O'Malley said afterwards, Like I felt something break in his face. The.

2Speaker 2
00:42:58.38 – 00:43:04.04

The noise that it made, I listened to it like 20 times. It's disgusting and I couldn't look away.

1Speaker 1
00:43:04.16 – 00:43:29.20

Sean O'Malley was insane how good he was against Chito Vera because she I, I haven't. I don't think I've seen that in a long time where you're watching a fight and Chito Vera. Even in the first few rounds, he was flinching, he was like he could have. They could have stopped the fight and had Sean O'Malley give him two for flinching. Because Sean O'Malley was just coming from all different angles, angles and so fast. Um, but yeah, that sound, that was crazy, it's all you.

2Speaker 2
00:43:29.20 – 00:43:44.74

Should actually sample that sound and put into a song. It was like the snare beat on a track. But so he is now going to say, you, you mean you, I should, I should, he should. He's going to not have the ability, he's going to move up and wait, he said. He'll fight anywhere, which I mean, he can't move down. He's the skinniest person on planet Earth, but I think he's going to move up.

1Speaker 1
00:43:44.74 – 00:43:59.96

10 pounds for his next fight. He was, he was incredible and it was a it was a fun night. I wanted a few more knockouts, but the yeah, the Dustin Poirier knockout where he felt like it was he. I also just love a guy like that. He was, uh, he. He kept on trying to guillotine PSD.

00:44:00.16 – 00:44:15.56

And after the first round, his corner was like, stop doing that. Every time you do that, he gets on top of you. And and literally 10 seconds in the second round, he just went right back. He's like, Nah, he's a, he's a student of history, yeah.

00:44:15.60 – 00:44:33.78

He had to try, but yeah, it was a it was a good UFC night, very fun. So so the boys saw Dave front row, uh, the t man, President Trump coming around, shaking, and he. I think he actually, like, I texted with Dave right after because I saw it on Dave's face. I think President Trump, like, pulled Dave's arm out of his socket.

00:44:33.88 – 00:44:41.42

He does Dave text me back, He's like, I was absolutely manhandled, he does the aggressive handshake. It was the pull in and I saw it, and then Dave sat down in his face.

00:44:41.54 – 00:44:42.98

It was just pure pain.

2Speaker 2
00:44:43.36 – 00:44:58.84

I was like, I think he just got manhandled. That was, I think maybe my favorite Trump clip was. Was it the, uh, the Supreme Court justice that he was swearing in and he was shaking their hand? And just like, grab everyone. You have to be ready for that. If you're going to shake his hand, you have to. I would, I was one guy.

00:44:58.84 – 00:45:01.08

I ever meet him, I'm going to, I'm going to put one of those.

1Speaker 1
00:45:01.08 – 00:45:21.48

Fake gag buzzers on my hand, I think you got to pull first. Yeah, like if I ever shook his hand, I'd pull first and then hope maybe double pull, because there was one. There was one head of state that he had like a real good back and forth, where the guy was pulling back and giving him a real. But yeah, he, he just manhandles with his handshake, and it's just pure Alpha, actually.

2Speaker 2
00:45:21.52 – 00:45:34.94

I changed my mind. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go completely limp and he's going to pull me and I'm going to fall forward. And then I'm just going to wear a neck brace for the next, like, nine months, yeah, and then Morgan and Morgan were, we're having a call, I like that.

1Speaker 1
00:45:34.94 – 00:45:38.92

Yeah, I like that, but yeah, it was a good UFC night. uh, always fun, big fight night.

00:45:39.22 – 00:45:56.40

It's always the best and it was. I was battling with the time change and everything, just battling, trying to. I had to have two ice creams late night just to try to stay awake, but as a man, as a man, I had two ice creams by myself. On the couch. I actually ate two things ice cream this weekend, too.

00:45:56.58 – 00:46:03.02

I was just like, there's only way out, one way I'm staying up. ice cream. I did one, I left myself one for the main event.

00:46:03.06 – 00:46:06.92

I was like, just got to stay because I wasn't thinking like I got to stay up for the main event, I was like.

2Speaker 2
00:46:06.98 – 00:46:14.62

Got to stay up for that second ice cream. Uh, also, Scotty Sheffler's back big time. Yeah, he. uh, he won, and it wasn't close. Scotty learned how to putt.

1Speaker 1
00:46:14.70 – 00:46:17.74

Good for the PGA, they needed someone big to win one of these.

2Speaker 2
00:46:17.74 – 00:46:26.08

They did, but even he, he was a big name, obviously, because he's Scotty Sheffler, but what is he? 60 to one before the tournament? Damn no, I don't think so.

00:46:26.26 – 00:46:29.74

There's no chance plus 600, plus 600, yeah, six to one.

1Speaker 1
00:46:30.28 – 00:46:35.52

Six to one, yeah, pretty big, pretty big difference, pretty big difference. 60 to one of you is playing lefty.

2Speaker 2
00:46:35.64 – 00:46:41.80

But he, uh, he, he was a shitty putter until now, and now we got a new putter. You got to figure it out, and he's fucking dialed in.

1Speaker 1
00:46:41.92 – 00:46:45.66

Damn it, yeah, uh, okay, uh. Let's see who's back the week.

3Speaker 3
00:47:24.86 – 00:47:31.80

I had Scotty Sheffler, but also Oppenheimer Award season. Oppenheimer swept at the Oscars.

1Speaker 1
00:47:31.80 – 00:47:36.50

Only movie I saw Best movie I saw Christopher Nolan won his first Oscar.

3Speaker 3
00:47:36.54 – 00:47:39.90

Which is surprising, and so did Robert Downey Jr.

1Speaker 1
00:47:40.46 – 00:47:46.66

And no one got slapped, no one got slapped, and John Cena kind of made a mockery of people who can't afford clothes.

2Speaker 2
00:47:47.46 – 00:47:59.24

It was a shame. I can't watch the Oscars anymore without a slap. Somebody needs to get slapped every year. Yeah, I don't care who, I don't care how. Just have the most two volatile celebrities that you can find. Drag them in there.

00:47:59.50 – 00:48:01.80

Hope that some fireworks happen because it's such a.

1Speaker 1
00:48:01.82 – 00:48:11.96

Such a letdown with no violence. At these awards, I know you really need something crazy to happen. It's just, yeah, I need someone to talk shit about someone, otherwise, what am I watching?

2Speaker 2
00:48:12.08 – 00:48:17.48

They should have brought Aaron Rodgers out there during Jimmy Kimmel's monologue, that would have been great. Give a live response to him.

1Speaker 1
00:48:17.54 – 00:48:21.88

That would have been great. Yeah, like, just have it be a debate. Yeah, that would have been awesome.

00:48:22.46 – 00:48:28.84

Okay, what did you? Did you think that that was the right winner for the Oscars? How many movies did you see? Just Oppenheimer, Okay.

00:48:29.00 – 00:48:33.72

Same with me, so you didn't see Barbie? Did not see Barbie? I did not either.

2Speaker 2
00:48:34.20 – 00:48:37.06

I saw Barbie, it was good. Give us your review of Barbie Max.

00:48:39.24 – 00:48:45.64

Funny, oh funny how it was entertaining, empowering, empowering and funny.

00:48:45.94 – 00:48:50.74

You were empowered by it. Uh, oh yeah, as a man, for sure, I watched it by myself, honestly.

00:48:51.42 – 00:48:55.90

Oh, okay, it was fun, it was fun, it was fun, it was a fun movie.

1Speaker 1
00:48:55.90 – 00:49:02.38

You watched it by yourself, it was fun. That's a good review. So you think Barbie got robbed?

00:49:03.96 – 00:49:07.12

Um, did it win anything? I don't know.

2Speaker 2
00:49:07.32 – 00:49:09.96

Who knows, probably won something? Best song.

1Speaker 1
00:49:10.12 – 00:49:11.18

Billie Eilish won Best Colors.

3Speaker 3
00:49:11.70 – 00:49:13.34

Best colors? No, they didn't get best wardrobe.

2Speaker 2
00:49:13.58 – 00:49:14.68

Oh, really did they get best soundtrack?

3Speaker 3
00:49:15.76 – 00:49:22.80

I know Billie Eilish won, I don't know if that's best song or best soundtrack. If that's different awards, yeah, Barbie won best Soundtrack.

2Speaker 2
00:49:23.00 – 00:49:26.80

Oh, okay, I saw that dog was there. Oh wait, no, it was cool to see that dog in the-.

3Speaker 3
00:49:26.84 – 00:49:28.12

Oppenheimer got best score.

1Speaker 1
00:49:30.66 – 00:49:33.48

Oppenheimer cleaned up. That's your Oscars recap.

2Speaker 2
00:49:34.60 – 00:49:41.60

Pft, your who's back, my who's back of the week is Princess Kate? Yes, Princess Kate's back. Our long national nightmare is over.

00:49:42.68 – 00:49:58.30

There's been some speculation about what Kate Middleton's been up to because she had, like, what abdominal surgery? No, she had Brazilian butt lift. Well, that's what people are saying, that it might have been just giving her a little bit of that pippa ass and she's been out of the public eye. She got a BVL, that's what people are saying.

00:49:58.36 – 00:50:09.22

We don't know what she had. Streets are talking. Well, she just came back with a rack, but anyways, she got abdominal surgery of some sort. And then she hasn't been seen for a very long time, so they put out a photo of her.

00:50:09.22 – 00:50:20.28

Today, the Royal family did, and it's her and her kids. And then, within about two hours, the photo was taken down and the Associated Press said, Stop publishing this, We've determined that it's fake.

1Speaker 1
00:50:20.64 – 00:50:21.04

Oh.

2Speaker 2
00:50:21.04 – 00:50:34.14

So, and if you zoom in on her kids hands, that's how you can tell so AI is not good enough yet to do hands. They can do everything else. But like, if you look at some of those Taylor Swift pictures, the hands are fucked up. So you zoom in on her kids hands. She doesn't have six fingers.

00:50:34.36 – 00:50:46.14

When she was kissing Andy Reid, No, no, apparently that wasn't real. But they're making the kids are doing like these weird hand symbols, maybe Illuminati shit, I don't know. And then her daughter's like, first finger is way bigger than the other.

00:50:46.20 – 00:50:56.58

So they determined that they had edited the picture and it had been done using AI, or at least like advanced Photoshop. Whoa, so the plot thickens. We don't know if she's still alive or not.

1Speaker 1
00:50:56.66 – 00:51:14.30

I thought the biggest story of, well, No. There was a picture of her in a car with her mother wearing sunglasses last week. That was the first one we saw. But the big story out of this is where the fuck does England get off having a different Mother's Day? what today was Mother's Day in England?

2Speaker 2
00:51:14.38 – 00:51:15.10

Like Queen mother.

1Speaker 1
00:51:15.10 – 00:51:22.26

No, that was the post was happy Mother's Day, that was the post that's weird, and everyone was like, It's Mother's Day in England.

00:51:22.26 – 00:51:25.34

Today you don't get to we decide Mother's Day.

2Speaker 2
00:51:25.36 – 00:51:26.94

Mother's. That's what we fought a war about.

1Speaker 1
00:51:27.06 – 00:51:39.30

You don't fucking get to decide Mother's Day, you don't get to do a different Mother's Day. Also Mother's Day in March. No, Mother's Day should be like. Farther along in spring, close to summer, you get some nice little brunch, all that shit.

2Speaker 2
00:51:39.52 – 00:51:39.84

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:51:40.10 – 00:51:42.12

What the fuck is England doing with a Mother's Day?

2Speaker 2
00:51:42.12 – 00:51:48.98

It has some, I bet you one of the Queen's, I bet you one of the Queen's. Flipped it around because it was closer to her birthday.

1Speaker 1
00:51:49.52 – 00:51:49.96

That's bullshit.

2Speaker 2
00:51:50.10 – 00:51:50.72

That's what I think.

1Speaker 1
00:51:50.80 – 00:51:58.82

That was a big story to me. I was like, there's, and then everyone's like, Yeah, it's Mother's Day. I saw our friend troops did a happy Mother's Day to his mom.

2Speaker 2
00:51:58.92 – 00:51:59.60

It's not Mother's Day.

1Speaker 1
00:51:59.66 – 00:52:00.48

It's not Mother's Day.

2Speaker 2
00:52:00.50 – 00:52:04.36

It was International Women's Day on Sunday you want to, or on Saturday you want to go back to back.

1Speaker 1
00:52:04.60 – 00:52:20.98

Imagine having a Mother's day when fucking, uh? Lehigh is coming back from 20 points. That was John Rothstein joining us the show. You imagine? Imagine having Mother's Day when? when, uh? Eastern Tennessee State comes back and wins in overtime, No.

2Speaker 2
00:52:21.12 – 00:52:22.72

It's way, it's way too early for that.

1Speaker 1
00:52:22.78 – 00:52:28.86

Mother's Day should be the fucking pink bats. someone hits a home run, they cry, That's Mother's Day, yep.

00:52:29.56 – 00:52:31.12

Uh, yeah, I don't like that.

2Speaker 2
00:52:31.16 – 00:52:33.06

Like, Father's Day is the U s open.

1Speaker 1
00:52:33.22 – 00:52:35.62

Yeah, right, or right, yeah right around there.

00:52:35.76 – 00:52:36.42

Yeah, it should.

3Speaker 3
00:52:36.42 – 00:52:38.68

How do you follow that up? How do you get caught doing AI?

2Speaker 2
00:52:38.68 – 00:52:40.26

I don't know, I don't know.

1Speaker 1
00:52:40.36 – 00:52:44.22

All right, I'm looking, Oh yeah, see this kid's fingers, also their faces.

00:52:44.38 – 00:52:54.56

I immediately before I even. That might be the inbred part, though. yeah, it could be the inbred part, but they were all doing this weird ass like open mouth smile. But yeah, they're the fingers.

2Speaker 2
00:52:55.38 – 00:53:06.54

They tried to pull a fast one on us. I'm so glad that we don't have a King and Queen, although it would kind of rock if it was like, Who would be our king? probably the Rock and Dolly Parton, America's King Queen.

1Speaker 1
00:53:06.54 – 00:53:08.68

Oh man, people are picking this apart.

2Speaker 2
00:53:09.20 – 00:53:16.02

Oh yeah, and then you've got all the like super fans of the Royal Family, telling people to back off and stop picking this apart. It's like you pay.

1Speaker 1
00:53:16.18 – 00:53:18.88

You posted a fake picture on a fake Mother's Day.

2Speaker 2
00:53:18.88 – 00:53:27.40

You posted the fake picture on fake Mother's Day and they're a fake family. That you pay taxes. And just to have them live a cool life so they can be your little mascots.

1Speaker 1
00:53:27.50 – 00:53:47.62

Yeah, she, she's BBL, that's what I'm going with. It was funny because I got onto this story like maybe two weeks ago. It hit my radar and it was, and I searched it. And it was just a bunch of women being like, you, you guys are so late to this story. We've been talking about Kate Middleton for two months.

00:53:47.76 – 00:53:52.70

They were all over. It's just like, shit, okay? Uh, all right, my who's back in the week is boxing.

00:53:53.24 – 00:54:03.24

Boxing is back cause Anthony Joshua knocked the fuck out of Francis Ngannou, and that feels good for boxing. No, nothing against Francis Ngannou. And by the way, he made the right choice.

00:54:03.36 – 00:54:23.40

He made $20 million to get knocked out in the second round. But I am a boxing purist in the fact that I want boxers to always beat people who show up. Whether it be a TikToker or an actual fighter who's a really good fighter. In Francis Ngannou, anyone who shows up into a boxing ring with no boxing training, I want them to lose every time.

2Speaker 2
00:54:23.40 – 00:54:35.98

It's just good to be like boxers are different. You know how you can. You can speed, you can look at like super fast NFL players, be like they don't have track speed though. Yeah, wait a minute, you, you put them in an arena with a, uh, like, a hundred meter dash specialist.

00:54:36.10 – 00:54:40.68

They'll get dusted. I do like seeing that, too, where it's like, the sweet science prevails above all, or even.

1Speaker 1
00:54:40.68 – 00:54:48.98

Reverse a hundred a hundred meter yard debt. Like Usain Bolt trying to catch a football. Yeah, see, can't play with the big boys. I like that.

00:54:49.16 – 00:54:50.36

So shout out Anthony Joshua.

2Speaker 2
00:54:50.36 – 00:54:59.46

For standing up for boxing, I also feel the same way about, like closers and baseball. It's like, if you put a closer in to pitch the third inning and just one inning, they couldn't do it. It's.

1Speaker 1
00:54:59.46 – 00:55:03.56

A different thing, yeah, or you're the Tampa Bay race, yep, and you just do that every game.

2Speaker 2
00:55:03.86 – 00:55:08.92

Or you're the Phillies in the World Series, yeah, and the Astros pitch no hitter against you.

1Speaker 1
00:55:09.78 – 00:55:20.32

You get no hits. Uh okay, uh, Jake, you're who's back? My who's back of the week is the wild, as in the actual wild hockey team? Yes.

00:55:20.56 – 00:55:27.30

They pulled off a crazy thing, they pulled their goalie in overtime and it paid off. Yeah, I've never.

2Speaker 2
00:55:27.30 – 00:55:30.12

Seen that before? I like that, I like that, just go for it, yeah.

00:55:30.50 – 00:55:31.48

Four on three, it was great.

1Speaker 1
00:55:31.56 – 00:55:35.66

But if it backfired that coach, she would have gotten some questions.

2Speaker 2
00:55:35.82 – 00:55:44.00

I like it, though now. Now we're going to see different coaches, like, maybe maybe emulate that, and it's going to backfire so hard in somebody's face eventually. Yeah, it's a ballsy thing.

00:55:44.00 – 00:55:55.90

Like, if if it works, you're a genius, and if it doesn't work, then you're like the biggest dumb ass on planet Earth. But the fact that it worked this time, I just love that you're going to get some of the dumber. Coaches try to implement it on their own without incorporating like the.

1Speaker 1
00:55:55.90 – 00:56:03.32

Correct strategy to using it? It reminds me of, uh, when Peter Lathorne blindfolded himself and sudden death. People were like, What are you doing? you're an idiot? And then it worked.

2Speaker 2
00:56:03.48 – 00:56:07.76

Then it worked. Yeah, and he's smart. I was a big fan of this. Uh, okay.

00:56:07.80 – 00:56:08.88

Good, who's back, everyone?

1Speaker 1
00:56:09.48 – 00:56:18.96

Uh, let's get to our interview, we have Rick Patino in studio, like 45 minutes. Um, and yeah, it was great, we talked about everything we talked about.

00:56:18.96 – 00:56:28.88

The stalker told him that we've made some jokes, we didn't get into the specifics of jokes. Cause I don't feel I'm feeling the room. I don't think that we wanted to just repeat the jokes we've made.

2Speaker 2
00:56:29.12 – 00:56:44.80

So, so Big Cat and I had a little conversation before Rick came in. And we came to the determination that it'd probably be best to just try to do a normal, good interview with him. Um, as opposed to having him, like, become openly, uh, instead of antagonizing.

1Speaker 1
00:56:44.90 – 00:57:06.12

Well, he was nice enough to come in. And we're not going to just do, uh, do a bunch of jokes that go over his head and then make them look bad. But we did address that. We've made those jokes when we brought up the stalker. I feel like we did a very good job and, uh, I won't say that we're going to never do the jokes again. But I, I did enjoy the fuck out of that interview like I wanted to come back on.

00:57:06.36 – 00:57:13.40

You might've said that, no, we've, we've already said that. Yeah, I think so that I think I I saw, uh, I think it was in 2016,.

00:57:13.40 – 00:57:14.06

We said we'd.

2Speaker 2
00:57:14.06 – 00:57:22.70

Never do the jokes, It's been a while. Uh, but no, we at the end we asked if we had permission to do the joke. Yes, so tune in, tune in and make sure to listen to the end of that.

00:57:22.90 – 00:57:27.38

Yeah, there were two or three times during the interview where I was over here, just biting my tongue, yeah, and.

1Speaker 1
00:57:27.38 – 00:57:31.74

Then I did one intentionally at the end, just to fuck with you, that was not intentional, the one.

2Speaker 2
00:57:31.74 – 00:57:33.32

I asked the question, I asked, Yeah.

00:57:35.04 – 00:57:41.48

I I there again, there's, you could probably see it on tape. There's one time where I'm going to pass out because I'm holding my breath. Yeah, uh, okay.

1Speaker 1
00:57:41.78 – 00:57:46.10

Uh, before we do that, we got a quick ad and then we'll get to coach Rick Patino before we get to.

2Speaker 2
00:57:46.10 – 00:57:57.94

1Speaker 1
00:58:49.30 – 00:58:50.02

Here's Rick Pitino.

00:58:52.22 – 00:59:06.24

Okay, we now welcome on a very, very, very special guest. His head coach of St. John's Basketball. it is Rick Pitino, legend of the game. Coach. First of all, thank you so much for making time for us. I know you got a busy schedule.

00:59:06.76 – 00:59:16.26

Appreciate you stopping by. We got a million questions. Your career, You've been in basketball for so long. We're huge sports fans, but I wanted to start with St. John's.

00:59:16.26 – 00:59:26.82

In this season, you guys are on Bubble watch right now, how does it feel? I mean, you have to be from your entire career, being back, even in the bubble. You're like, This is great, I'm loving it, I would assume.

00:59:27.80 – 00:59:29.28

Well, first, thanks for having me this.

4Speaker 4
00:59:29.28 – 00:59:47.12

Really helps my street cred in New York. Yeah, okay, you know, being on the bubble, I've had it so many different ways. Iona was, I was a nervous wreck. This time of year. Because you go through, you win 25 regular season games, you go down to Atlantic City and if you don't win that tournament, you're done, so being on the bubble is great.

00:59:47.52 – 01:00:04.20

We have two games remaining, which I think if we win, get us off the bubble, get us in the hunt. And you want to be playing. The most important thing of anything is to be playing your best basketball. Come much. It's one thing to get into tournaments, another thing to play great at this time of year and I'm hoping we are. Yeah, I noticed that your.

2Speaker 2
01:00:04.20 – 01:00:08.86

Team's lateral quickness and agility has been much, much improved over the last two weeks.

4Speaker 4
01:00:08.92 – 01:00:20.54

Any idea, maybe why that happened? You know, it's so that was premeditated, it wasn't a rant. I wanted my team to start to play better defense, I know what, how to motivate them.

01:00:20.84 – 01:00:43.66

And immediately they wanted to show me their lateral quickness, and what I tried to explain to them is in the N.B.A. nobody can stop anyone. Celtics had 80 points the other day and a half, so in order for us to stop anyone without lateral quickness. I mean, we're not Jokic. We're much better than that and he's the best player in basketball, but it's got to be a team stopping them.

01:00:43.70 – 01:00:53.52

This is not the N.B.A. where the offense is so awesome you can't stop anybody. We've got to rely on five guys in the gaps helping each other out to stop people. In the last two games, we've gotten that.

2Speaker 2
01:00:53.68 – 01:00:59.04

Yeah, so when you make those comments in the press, like you said, it was premeditated. Did your players know you were going to say that?

4Speaker 4
01:00:59.40 – 01:01:20.56

It didn't bother them in the least, it bothered other people, but it didn't bother if someone. If that's the worst comment they can get. They're a little slow laterally, or they're physically a little weak. That's the worst they ever hear in life. I mean, we got to toughen up a little bit. You know, this is when my players leave me. They're tough individuals, they're able to handle adversity.

01:01:20.88 – 01:01:22.56

They don't wilt when something bad.

1Speaker 1
01:01:22.56 – 01:01:44.10

Happens, and it's incredible because you are a little bit of a relic of the past in that sense. Where there's a lot of coaching, especially in sports now, where it's maybe not as tough on the kids, but I love it. And I would assume, like, when you're recruiting kids, when you're bringing kids in, they know what they're buying here, they know what they're getting into. Like, coach Patino is going to coach you tough and make you a tough individual.

4Speaker 4
01:01:44.10 – 01:02:09.74

Well, the first thing you do is every single morning. I have four player development sessions that go 45 minutes. So if you're coming to play for me every single day, you're going for 45 minutes. And you're going hard to improve your game. When Donovan Mitchell came to me, he had a line drive shot and he wanted to come play for me because of those player development sessions. Then you have your weight training, then you have your afternoon practice, and you have all these things go into the making of a really good basketball player.

01:02:09.84 – 01:02:22.32

So some people may not want that, some people want that, but I'm upfront with them right from the beginning. If you don't love the game as much as I love it, I eat, sleep, drink it. It's part of my blood system. And if you don't have that, go somewhere else.

01:02:22.36 – 01:02:23.10

I'm fine with that.

1Speaker 1
01:02:23.26 – 01:02:29.70

Yeah, have you had guys who have in your past like they just not quit? But then like, Hey, I can't do this, it's a little too tough.

4Speaker 4
01:02:29.78 – 01:02:41.96

I've been lucky, I've had great transfers in before this portal stuff. I had Mark Pope, the coach of BYU, Travis Ford, the coach of St. Louis. I've had some really great Derek Anderson, who came in from Ohio State.

01:02:42.38 – 01:02:57.04

Great transfers that have done remarkably well. David Padgett came from Kansas to me, so I've had great success with that. And I think the guys that can't play that way, it's not because of a lack of effort, it just may not be their level of play.

2Speaker 2
01:02:57.24 – 01:03:11.56

Right coach, can I just say I'm a little bit disappointed in you today? Because when we found out that you were coming in, I was very, very excited. And I was hoping you were going to wear the white suit, and we didn't get the white suit. I knew this morning, I was like, you know what, Rick's going to come in here, he's going to be wearing a nice st.

01:03:11.64 – 01:03:17.30

John's track suit, and that's fine, but I really wanted the white suit. How do you determine when you break the white suit out?

4Speaker 4
01:03:17.40 – 01:03:18.86

Well, it's a white out first.

01:03:20.44 – 01:03:25.84

I wasn't going to do it. Obviously, I'm 71 and I think that's a little past my prime as far as looking good.

2Speaker 2
01:03:25.86 – 01:03:26.66

I think you pull it off.

4Speaker 4
01:03:27.22 – 01:03:37.56

But I wanted to do it to relax my players. They thought it was the coolest thing. And when I came out, they were just we got to win, we got to win and it got them. They needed to win this game.

01:03:37.76 – 01:03:41.24

Creighton's a very good basketball team, it got them to relax a little bit, so it was worth it.

2Speaker 2
01:03:41.58 – 01:03:50.90

Yeah, I just. I think that us as fans should know when the white suit is coming so we can adequately prepare for it. I would have definitely bet on you if I knew that the White Suit would come out. St. John's Moneyline, no doubt about it.

01:03:51.04 – 01:04:05.98

But, you know, the reason I know that you love basketball is you're probably the first person ever to move from Hawaii to Syracuse. New York. Yeah, it's got to be like a club of one of one. And you did it to coach college basketball. Obviously was there a small part of you that was like Hawaii's.

01:04:05.98 – 01:04:07.90

Pretty good, I might just stay here for a while.

4Speaker 4
01:04:08.12 – 01:04:18.38

You know, Jim Boeheim, actually, it was my wedding night, he came in on my wedding night to recruit me. I was going on my honeymoon to go to Syracuse. He was just named head coach.

01:04:19.12 – 01:04:36.02

And I spent four hours with him. And back then you didn't get. They didn't have a registers where you sign up at a register, send some, you got enveloped. The Italians get envelopes filled with a hundred dollar bills. So I said to him, If you go up and open up the envelopes, I'm going to meet with this gentleman for an hour. Four hours later, I took the Syracuse job.

01:04:36.26 – 01:04:47.88

And I said, I've got great news. Instead of going to Hawaii on a honeymoon, you get to go to Syracuse. And let's stay in Jim Boeheim's home while I go to Cincinnati to recruit Louis Orr. A little bit different.

1Speaker 1
01:04:48.04 – 01:04:50.44

Yeah, I mean, that shows you love it, like, that's that's, you know.

4Speaker 4
01:04:50.48 – 01:04:56.28

I really do. I absolutely eat, sleep and drink the game. I love the game, I love what I love much. Madness.

01:04:56.28 – 01:05:10.90

I love the Big East Tournament, I love everything about basketball because it's five guys getting together. Even if you have your limitations, you can really help a team win, and basketball, to me, is the ultimate team game. And I just love that, the pageantry behind it.

01:05:11.10 – 01:05:20.14

I love what happens in March madness. If you said to me now, who do you think is going to win, I can name you eight teams that legitimately could win this thing. Yeah, and and I mean, it's also.

1Speaker 1
01:05:20.14 – 01:05:32.14

A testament, like after the Louisville stuff, you didn't retire like you could have easily retired and, and, you know, been with your horses and had a great life. And you're like, No. I love basketball so much, I want to get back in the game.

4Speaker 4
01:05:32.32 – 01:05:56.26

What's funny? Because I got interviewed twice by two schools mid-majors during my two-year hiatus. And then a week before Christmas. I got a call from a fellow who's a UMASS graduate, and he said, Look, coach. I spoke to Chris Wallace, who was the general manager of the Grizzlies at the time, and my GM with the Celtics. Would you like to come to Panathinaikos and coach? I said, What is that?

01:05:56.40 – 01:06:07.26

Yeah, he said. It's in the Euroleague, it's a famous program in Greece, the most famous. they've won five Euroleague championships. I said, I've never been to Greece and I don't know anything about the Euroleague, it's not for me.

01:06:07.34 – 01:06:15.96

So I turned it down. A week later, he called me back and said, Look, you got 48 hours to decide, and I, my wife says, you got to go. I said, I'm going to go to Greece.

01:06:16.52 – 01:06:28.48

She said It was Christmas Eve, I had to fly to Emirates in in Newark, catch a flight coach Christmas night. Against Cheska in first place, I said, All right, pack up, let's go, Oh, you're packing, you're going.

01:06:28.68 – 01:06:41.16

I'm not going to Greece, so I took off my suitcases not knowing anybody in Greece. Coach, We won that game against Cheska in first place that night. I had a wonderful two years, became their national coach for a short stint.

01:06:41.48 – 01:06:58.12

And I had a great time, it really, for me, being such a junkie, I learned a different brand of basketball. It's like the Warriors on steroids with their movement and their passing, and it's a different form of offense than we're used to. And I learned a lot, age 65, I learned an awful lot.

01:06:58.16 – 01:06:59.40

And that was that was great for me.

1Speaker 1
01:06:59.60 – 01:07:06.04

So a question about that. So the first night you show up, you don't know any of these guys. What'd you do in terms of coaching? Like, what did you say to them?

4Speaker 4
01:07:06.14 – 01:07:17.56

Well, Nick, collate this I. He played for Billy Donovan so he knew of me right away and I said, Look, guys, you're going to run your same offenses. We're going to change some things defensively, but there'll be subtle changes right now.

01:07:17.62 – 01:07:25.58

Go out and play, but the one thing I want to see everybody play the hardest they can play, so I can evaluate you and they won the game. We had a great run.

01:07:25.80 – 01:07:40.52

It was fun. I traveled to places that have never been, from Barcelona to Madrid, to Tel Aviv, to Lithuania, to Russia, to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and just places that were just awesome to see for the first time. Yeah, yeah.

01:07:40.52 – 01:07:41.78

Was there any culture shock at all?

2Speaker 2
01:07:41.78 – 01:07:43.96

Going over there. Or was it just basketball is basketball?

4Speaker 4
01:07:43.96 – 01:07:54.76

It was a different brand of basketball. So I'm in Tel Aviv. We just lost to Maccabi close game and my general manager books us on a commercial flight.

01:07:54.82 – 01:08:03.96

Now we don't fly first class at Powell, so we're waiting at the airport. We have a four o'clock flight back to Athens. The game is 930, we finish, we get to the airport at 1230..

01:08:04.76 – 01:08:13.52

James Gist and Nick Collate has come up to me and said, Coach, I was reading a book. He said. Coach, let us buy you a beer. I said, Is it open? He said. Yeah, it stays open here, so we go to the bar.

01:08:13.80 – 01:08:22.94

I said, I'll take any light beer and they said, What do you guys want? A double jack and cokes? I said, No wonder we're freaking losing. You got a double jack and coke.

01:08:23.12 – 01:08:25.70

And they had a couple more and I went back to.

1Speaker 1
01:08:25.70 – 01:08:44.62

Reading my book, Oh, that's funny. So the evolution of the basketball? Are there times when you look back? As you were someone who was early on, like the three point shot, you know, your team took a lot of threes. Full court press. Is there part of you that watches the evolution of basketball? You're like, I was doing this 25 years ago.

01:08:44.62 – 01:08:46.78

Like, finally, people have caught up, like, what's going?

4Speaker 4
01:08:46.78 – 01:09:11.44

On here, you know the funny thing. In 87, I took over a team that was dead last place since the inception of the Big East, seven straight years. I knew from the meetings that Roley Messamino, John Thompson, Big John, Um, Louie Conaseca and one of the older coach. They were not going to take threes, they were adamant against it, so I said, I'm going to take. 15 to 23 is lead the country in three point shooting.

01:09:11.58 – 01:09:26.34

Only Jerry Tarkanian and myself adopted it right away. Yep, then we played the Russians in an exhibition game and they took 28 threes and we took 16. And I said, I got to go higher. So we in Las Vegas led the country in three point shooting and got to a final four.

01:09:26.34 – 01:09:38.66

Villanova St. John's in Georgetown took about two threes per game in the first, like five or seven. Crazy. Then when I took over the Knicks, we became the Bombinos. Yep, we just were bombing away.

01:09:38.82 – 01:09:41.68

And now today, obviously, it's everybody's doing it, everyone.

1Speaker 1
01:09:41.68 – 01:09:45.68

Does it? Yeah, so there's gotta be, there's gotta be a part of you. That's like, I saw this before.

4Speaker 4
01:09:45.68 – 01:09:53.98

Everyone kind of well. The Russians helped me that night that we played them in an exhibition. I realized that had to take the three. Yeah, yeah, three is worth more than two.

01:09:54.02 – 01:09:54.54

It is kind.

2Speaker 2
01:09:54.54 – 01:09:59.46

Of funny how long it took basketball to reach that conclusion. Yes, but you have to take good shots.

4Speaker 4
01:09:59.46 – 01:10:17.26

So you have a chance to offensive rebound if you come down to court and take a quick three without a chance for an offensive rebound. Even if you're shooting 45, it's not a high percentage shot, so you've got to make sure you create movement and your guys can offensive rebound. The miss because they're going to come off long. Yeah, what's what's the hardest part about?

1Speaker 1
01:10:17.26 – 01:10:39.70

Teaching the press because we've always, I mean, I love when a team presses, especially in college, because you find very quickly that a lot of teams can't handle the press. And it's like, Well, they have the ball handlers for this, and it throws a wrinkle into everything. But in terms of teaching it, I, I, maybe I'm way off. I feel like a lot of coaches don't do it because they don't want to teach it. And they don't want to get their guys stamina wise to a point where they can press a.

4Speaker 4
01:10:39.70 – 01:10:46.80

LOT Well, the second thing you said so correct, yeah, stamina wise, so we have three different presses based on how we score.

01:10:47.56 – 01:10:59.08

So if we had a three point shot, we're in a different press back to his own. Yep, if it's a dead ball, we're in a different press back to a switching man. If we're in a two point shot, we're in a different press back to a man. So we base it on how we score.

01:10:59.50 – 01:11:07.32

It takes a long time to learn, but it's worth it once you get it. Yeah, yeah, why do you think that NBA teams don't press at all N.BA teams?

01:11:07.44 – 01:11:07.64

Yeah.

01:11:09.64 – 01:11:22.26

It's 82 games, it's tough on their legs, you know, there was no such thing. I pressed with the Knicks and we averaged at that time. No one's really breaking a hundred. We averaged 116.8 points per game.

01:11:22.86 – 01:11:43.28

Uh, we were third, uh, Doug. Most team at Denver outscored us. I think it was one of the team and then it became when it. By the time I came back to the Celtics, not one team was breaking a hundred. I was at a meeting with David Stern, U.B. Brown, Larry Brown, Pat Riley, Chuck Daly and one other person to how to get scoring back in the game.

01:11:43.38 – 01:11:52.78

David Stern called the meeting and we really said, there's only one way, not eight seconds. In the backcourt, you got to call fouls, yeah, get them to the foul line.

01:11:52.80 – 01:11:59.40

It's dead time they'll defense won't be as like knocking out Michael Jordan. Yeah, and it's changed.

01:11:59.72 – 01:12:05.32

That's what we did and the game changed. And now now it's too much. Yeah, 80 points and a half by the Celtics, too much.

1Speaker 1
01:12:05.48 – 01:12:24.10

Is there any part of you? When you look at your career? You, you know, you have the success at Kentucky, you win a national title and then you jump back to the NBA. Is there any part of you that looks back? It's like, maybe I should have stayed at Kentucky, because that was, you know, it's Kentucky. Or were you? Like? I had to take the chance? I had to, you know, the Celtics, I had to, I had to to jump there.

01:12:24.10 – 01:12:26.00

And NBA is the highest level of basketball in.

4Speaker 4
01:12:26.00 – 01:12:40.40

The world, Yeah, I think if it wasn't, I was offered about seven or eight pro jobs. Before the Celtics. Obviously I was a Nick coach and that's a dream for me being a New Yorker. But if, in hindsight, it's 2020, if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably never leave Kentucky.

01:12:40.40 – 01:13:00.38

Yeah, you know Dick Vitale every time I speak to him. If you were to stay at Kentucky, you'd have more wins than any coach, and you think back on that. But I learned a lot to coach the Boston Celtics. Even if you you didn't do a great job, it's just too much. You know, you got Red Auerbach, you got Bill Russell on Havlicek Heintz and so many greats.

01:13:00.94 – 01:13:05.22

It was worth the experience, but if I had to do it all over again, I had a choice to bring back time.

1Speaker 1
01:13:05.28 – 01:13:15.54

I probably would have stayed at Kentucky. Did you ever think when you gave the press conference, the Larry Bird's not walking through that door? Do you ever think that it would live on forever? How it has? Yes, it's like it gets brought up all the time.

01:13:15.70 – 01:13:25.32

I know it's great, it's the only probably good thing I've ever done in Boston. It's just that press conference, but like, when you said it, did you? did you walk off? you're like, Wow, that was I nailed that press conference.

4Speaker 4
01:13:26.14 – 01:13:30.18

I didn't know it. 25 years later, they'd still be playing it. Yeah, that's a great club also.
