00:04:14.86 – 00:04:16.88

Presented by Barstool Sports.

1Speaker 1
00:04:19.66 – 00:04:27.14

Welcome to part of my take. Today is Friday, June 9th, and heat culture is dead.

4Speaker 4
00:04:27.32 – 00:04:41.80

Sorry to see it go. Looks like nugs in 5, nugs in 5. I stand by it. That was a nice game that they had the other night, but there's just too much. We said that the Nuggets have the best Batman-Robin combo, maybe in the N.BA.

00:04:42.06 – 00:04:43.64

I think that's probably fair to say now.

1Speaker 1
00:04:43.72 – 00:04:44.22

Best duo?

4Speaker 4
00:04:44.40 – 00:04:49.56

Where? Now? It's like they've got a batman and a Robin, and also the Robin has his own Robin to his batman.

1Speaker 1
00:04:49.56 – 00:04:50.64

You're talking about Christian Brown?

4Speaker 4
00:04:50.76 – 00:04:56.00

I'm talking about Christian Brown, yes, who played out of his mind Deli Plus game last night from Christian Brown.

1Speaker 1
00:04:56.20 – 00:05:05.16

Incredible. And the best Christian Brown moment was when he was all over the place, making plays, driving to the rim, dunking. And then he's like, let me try a three.

00:05:07.14 – 00:05:16.20

Off the side of the backboard, but Christian Brown was incredible. Jokic was insane, he had the perfect stat line for a minute there.

00:05:16.30 – 00:05:19.62

He ended up ending the game with 32, 21 and 10.

00:05:20.04 – 00:05:27.44

But there was a moment in the fourth quarter where they showed his stat line. He had played 40 minutes, he had 30 points, he had 20 rebounds and 10 assists.

00:05:27.66 – 00:05:47.82

And it was so visually beautiful to look at. And he is now so. Historically, he is the first N.B.A. player in N.B.A. finals history to go 30 20 10. And he there's been five 30 20 10 playoff games ever. He now has three of the five.

4Speaker 4
00:05:47.94 – 00:05:48.50

It's insane.

1Speaker 1
00:05:48.66 – 00:05:50.50

The other two, Kareem and Will, pretty good company.

4Speaker 4
00:05:50.58 – 00:06:00.18

Yeah, so also there was the first triple-double in N.B.A. finals history for two teammates, right? So Jamal Murray also had a triple-double. It was a double-triple-double last night.

1Speaker 1
00:06:01.84 – 00:06:09.14

He is a guest of the show. Not a stat patter, not a stat patter. But Jamal Murray was in the game with about, you know, a minute left up 10, not a stat patter.

00:06:09.14 – 00:06:10.22

To get that 10th rebound.

4Speaker 4
00:06:10.52 – 00:06:24.70

You know, I need to go back and look at Jokic's games because I'm pretty sure. Like Game one. When you look at his triple-doubles, they're all created differently. Yeah, they're like snowflakes. Each one is not like the last one because I think his first triple-double, you could call that, was that the 40-point game?

1Speaker 1
00:06:24.90 – 00:06:27.28

No, he had the 40-point game in game two, which wasn't a triple-double.

4Speaker 4
00:06:27.34 – 00:06:39.60

Okay, all right. So his first game he had, I think it was assist, right, that was the assist game. I'll look it up right now, I'm not sure, but the point that I'm trying to make is one game he'll have like a million assists.

00:06:40.02 – 00:06:48.32

Next game he'll have a million rebounds and the next game he'll have a million points. So he can beat you with any different variety of types of triple-double.

1Speaker 1
00:06:48.38 – 00:07:00.18

And he also, like, rolls out of bed in the first quarter and he's already training for a triple-double. I think he was like, 10-5-5 in the first quarter. It's like, Oh yeah, it's going to be one of those nights. Jokic is the best player on earth.

4Speaker 4
00:07:00.32 – 00:07:09.16

I think we should embrace debate. Big guy, I got a question for you because I don't think Jokic wants to be a star. I think he wants to go to work, go home, facetime his horses and hop in the pool.

3Speaker 3
00:07:09.34 – 00:07:09.62

Yes.

4Speaker 4
00:07:09.94 – 00:07:11.46

Does he want or care to be a superstar?

1Speaker 1
00:07:11.66 – 00:07:15.32

That's deleted Kevin Durant tweet. I don't know why he deleted it.

4Speaker 4
00:07:15.38 – 00:07:17.90

I think he deleted it because he didn't want it to be taken the wrong way.

1Speaker 1
00:07:18.00 – 00:07:42.64

He didn't want to get in the muck on Twitter all day. Because that is one of those tweets that you throw out there and then you have to sit there and look at the replies all day. So, yeah, so essentially what happened was Dan Levitard threw out the point, which I don't really understand whatsoever. He's basically said, Uh, Jokic is magic and bird, and America hates him. I don't think anyone in America hates him. I think he's probably the most liked guy.

00:07:42.82 – 00:08:07.66

The only hate that you could say that Jokic has gotten this year was from the Embiid mafia, and that was directed because they were trying to prop up Embiid. He is universally liked in America, so I guess, if you want to say, if he was American, would he be a bigger star? Yeah, you know what? Probably because that's probably how it usually works. Where the guy who, if he was from Iowa or Oklahoma, Yeah, you're right.

00:08:07.68 – 00:08:19.62

If he played NCAA, if he had had a crazy NCAA tournament run with Oklahoma State. Yeah, you're right. We probably would have, like, you know, thought about him more and propped him up more as an American.

00:08:21.20 – 00:08:28.36

He was saying, America hates him again. I don't know how I've yet to see someone who hates Jokic.

4Speaker 4
00:08:28.52 – 00:08:38.28

It's a really good tactic to use, though, is to, like, create a guy out there and then get into an argument with that guy that doesn't exist. That's what 90 of the internet is right now. Yes, it's just you invent a guy to be mad at. It's a straw man.

00:08:38.70 – 00:08:48.28

I don't. Yeah, nobody hates, nobody hates Jokic, my mom said. His head's too big for his body, or too small for his body. Yeah, his haircut makes his head look small, that's not even hate.

00:08:48.28 – 00:08:54.24

That's like the meanest thing that I've heard about Jokic. If you're a horse, you hate him, because where's your back out all day?

1Speaker 1
00:08:54.58 – 00:08:55.96

Or he's never home.

4Speaker 4
00:08:56.28 – 00:08:58.74

Yeah, you miss him. yeah, you miss him, you miss him because he's not around.

1Speaker 1
00:08:59.04 – 00:09:07.48

But yeah, he like, yes, if you want to say that, a guy who, if he was born in America, would be a bigger star in America. I'm going to agree with that.

4Speaker 4
00:09:07.54 – 00:09:15.54

So this tells me that KD definitely still has burners. This tweet was meant to be sent from one of his burners. That's why he deleted it. Yes, this was not meant for the main account.

00:09:16.02 – 00:09:19.24

And I think that maybe the reason why he deleted it and he could have left it up.

00:09:21.44 – 00:09:34.64

He was saying that, like Jokic doesn't care for the limelight. Like saying he doesn't care about being a superstar doesn't mean that it's not a negative against him. It's just like some people are built for media attention and they like that stuff. They want to be front and center all the time, he doesn't.

00:09:34.72 – 00:09:37.90

He doesn't want to be front and center all the time, but I don't think that's a negative thing to say at all.

1Speaker 1
00:09:38.00 – 00:09:48.04

No, not at all. He goes about his work. He seems like an unbelievable teammate. I mean, we know he's an unbelievable teammate on the court, seems like an unbelievable teammate off the court as well.

00:09:48.56 – 00:09:50.02

Yeah, I don't think.

00:09:50.02 – 00:10:03.54

It's a combo of a guy who probably doesn't love the limelight and also playing in a city and franchise that doesn't have. Like, if Jokic was a Knick or Jokic was, yeah, he probably would have a higher profile. That's not really like....

00:10:03.54 – 00:10:05.96

The argument Like Denver.

00:10:05.96 – 00:10:20.52

And Denver is now going to. If they win this, finals will go forward and their profile will raise. But, of course, Jokic isn't like the most talked-about star in the N.B.A. because of that full combo, doesn't love the limelight and plays in Denver.

00:10:20.68 – 00:10:22.96

He still is universally liked.

4Speaker 4
00:10:23.12 – 00:10:38.76

You know what I learned last night because I was watching the game with a Nuggets fan. If you're a Nuggets fan in Denver. You can't watch their games on TV. Unless you have a very specific type of package. Because they're not on Comcast or whatever they use out there, the main cable service does not carry them.

00:10:39.08 – 00:10:46.72

DirectV doesn't even really carry them. So you can't watch Nuggets Games unless you go out to a bar to watch. You can't watch Nuggets Games. Finals, you can, you can watch the finals, obviously.

00:10:48.04 – 00:10:49.24

Regular season games.

1Speaker 1
00:10:49.24 – 00:10:50.06

Unless they're on ESPN, yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:10:50.06 – 00:10:51.76

You can't watch them unless they're on national television.

1Speaker 1
00:10:51.88 – 00:11:04.88

The Arsenal fans always tell us that Stan Kroenke's a bad owner. But he's about to possibly win a NFL, a Super Bowl, a Stanley Cup and an N.B.A. title, all within what five years?

4Speaker 4
00:11:04.90 – 00:11:11.34

Well, also, Arsenal's been the best team in the EPL all season, right? They're definitely going to win the EPL this year, for sure.

1Speaker 1
00:11:11.62 – 00:11:13.14

Is Stan Kroenke the Goat owner?

4Speaker 4
00:11:13.14 – 00:11:25.46

I think if Stan Kroenke was British, they would love him. Everyone in England hates Stan Kroenke because he's not from England, but if he was English, he would be the most celebrated person there.

1Speaker 1
00:11:25.56 – 00:11:35.60

And we're just forgetting all of our listeners from St. Louis, just like Arthur. Meme. Yeah, you know, the fist is starting to get tighter and tighter as we talk about how Stan Kroenke's an incredible owner.

4Speaker 4
00:11:35.76 – 00:11:40.22

Okay, also, I know that Arsenal choked away the EPL this year, we do know that.

1Speaker 1
00:11:40.24 – 00:11:45.74

We do know that we're dumb-facing. yes, we're dumb-presenting, we're dumb-presenting.

4Speaker 4
00:11:45.78 – 00:11:47.24

My pronouns are shithead.

1Speaker 1
00:11:47.34 – 00:12:04.56

Yeah, but the game was great. Jamal MuRRAY I mean, for the Nuggets, it wasn't. I was a little pissed at the heat because watching I wasn't going to turn off an N.BA finals game. But I don't know if you guys had the same experience. I was sitting on my couch watching the game, being like, it's not over the heat, but it was.

00:12:04.70 – 00:12:16.46

It was always over and outside of Jokic and Murray, who have been incredible and they both had incredible nights. The nuggets are just too tall, they're simply too tall for the heat.

4Speaker 4
00:12:16.60 – 00:12:20.12

That's what we said after game one. The heat don't have anybody that can match up with them.

1Speaker 1
00:12:20.58 – 00:12:26.88

Bam had 17 rebounds and the Nuggets were still had 15 more rebounds than the heat.

4Speaker 4
00:12:27.22 – 00:12:36.54

You've got Bam, then you've got Chris Kamen Jr. that they can put in. Yeah, Zeller, yeah, Zeller. And then who's left after that to guard any of their bigs, yeah.

00:12:36.68 – 00:12:40.32

Nobody really like they put in haslam at the end for a second, that was awesome.

1Speaker 1
00:12:40.36 – 00:12:42.26

Yeah, it was really mean when they zoomed in on his hair.

4Speaker 4
00:12:42.28 – 00:12:53.04

Yeah, that was mean, it was really mean. Him and Jeff Green, both. They like to zoom in on their hair. Which as a guy that will soon be approaching that level, I took major offense to that. It's like, let it go.

1Speaker 1
00:12:53.28 – 00:13:03.46

So do we think the heat are dead because this is now the trap that we fall into? Where now that the heat have to win a game, would you say must win, must win game four for the heat?

4Speaker 4
00:13:03.64 – 00:13:06.92

This is beyond a must win, this is the mustest win.

1Speaker 1
00:13:07.20 – 00:13:15.32

So now they're backs to the wall. Jimmy Butler has not been heard of, heard from this series. Like, maybe.

4Speaker 4
00:13:15.56 – 00:13:20.16

I'm going to get the narrative going, though. Jimmy Jimmy Butler, how bad does it make you hank? Jimmy Butler's hurt?

1Speaker 1
00:13:20.54 – 00:13:23.28

Jimmy Butler and Caleb Martin have not been good.

3Speaker 3
00:13:23.88 – 00:13:46.00

I'm not, yeah, I'm curious more, just, you know, from Max's perspective. My compadre here where everyone last year, you know him and Tatum and Jimmy Butler, you know finals numbers. Tatum's are actually better, and everyone was calling Tatum last year. You know, biggest choke can't show up in the big moments. Jimmy Butler is doing even worse than Jason Tatum last year. Nowhere to be found in the fourth quarter.

00:13:46.62 – 00:13:47.88

Where's the discussion?

1Speaker 1
00:13:48.26 – 00:13:50.96

Why aren't we having a Jimmy Butler choke choke artist?

3Speaker 3
00:13:51.02 – 00:13:53.74

Right, Max, isn't it crazy? Should we start?

4Speaker 4
00:13:54.00 – 00:13:57.86

Agreed, terrible, terrible propaganda against my Celtics, like always.

3Speaker 3
00:13:59.02 – 00:14:00.96

It's crazy, it's just interesting.

1Speaker 1
00:14:02.16 – 00:14:09.40

He has to have a game where he takes over and wins a game for them, for that, for it to not become like, where was Jimmy Butler in the finals?

4Speaker 4
00:14:09.62 – 00:14:14.20

I'm going to, I'm going to say that he's injured, though I'm going to be the first to report that Jimmy Butler is not healthy.

1Speaker 1
00:14:14.62 – 00:14:15.50

When did he get injured?

4Speaker 4
00:14:15.66 – 00:14:17.04

He got injured when he rolled his ankle.

1Speaker 1
00:14:17.18 – 00:14:17.68

Against the Knicks.

4Speaker 4
00:14:17.68 – 00:14:19.42

One of the six times that he rolled his ankle, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:14:19.58 – 00:14:21.98

And then played very well in those first three games against the Celtics.

4Speaker 4
00:14:22.00 – 00:14:27.48

But you know how rolled ankles are? Sometimes it's worse than a break, you wait three weeks and then it just flares up again.

1Speaker 1
00:14:27.48 – 00:14:38.78

I do, like, I think the heat are in deep, deep water because they're just nuggets, are better and taller and tall. Tallness matters, height matters, it does in basketball.

4Speaker 4
00:14:38.96 – 00:14:39.58

Sadly, in life.

1Speaker 1
00:14:39.62 – 00:14:57.64

It does, but especially in basketball. But if there's ever a team to not count out like, it wouldn't shock me if. On Friday night, the heat somehow pulled a rabbit out of their hat. Partially because for the 17th time these playoffs, we've declared heat culture dead. They pop up and it's 2-2 going back to Denver.

4Speaker 4
00:14:57.84 – 00:15:10.48

I would be surprised if the heat won. I think the Nuggets are going to win it in five. In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb. I think that this Nuggets team should win three championships. Ooh, Dynasty already.

00:15:10.66 – 00:15:24.26

I think this should be a dynasty. Think about it, look at the players that they have right now, look how they're playing as a unit. They've got a great coach that knows his team inside and out, with Murray, with Porter, Gordon and Jokic all together.

00:15:24.72 – 00:15:38.76

And then you've got defensive help too that they brought in this offseason, that should be around, you should be able to extend them. KCP I feel like with this roster, let's just say that it will be a disappointment to me if the Nuggets win fewer than three NBA championships.

1Speaker 1
00:15:39.00 – 00:15:42.30

Okay, so they have to do that, otherwise it's a complete bust.

4Speaker 4
00:15:42.32 – 00:15:43.14

Complete failure.

1Speaker 1
00:15:43.14 – 00:15:50.32

They haven't even won one yet, and we're already on Dynasty Talk. That's how it works in sports media.

4Speaker 4
00:15:50.44 – 00:16:00.36

I'm getting ahead of it because that is going to be the conversation, make no mistake. When they win this first one, it's going to be on first take and they're going to say, how great do you think this team can win? Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:16:00.56 – 00:16:01.36

Michael Porter Jr.

00:16:01.36 – 00:16:02.62

By the way, has not been great.

4Speaker 4
00:16:02.68 – 00:16:08.22

He has not been good, which is why I replaced him as Jamal Murray's Robin with Christian Brown.

1Speaker 1
00:16:08.38 – 00:16:31.14

Yes, yes, Christian Brown was, I mean, that was that. If you're a guy who's a true role player guy and like, off the bench, 7th, 8th, 9th guy, whatever it may be, you just hope you have that one moment in the playoff run. So that when they talk about that ring, they can be like, Yeah, that was Christian Brown, Christian Brown, like he had that game.

4Speaker 4
00:16:31.36 – 00:16:33.74

He had, he's going to be featured on the one shining moment, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:16:33.74 – 00:16:51.66

Because otherwise you don't want to be the guy who's like, oh yeah, when you look back at it, like, oh, okay, so you played like three minutes there, five minutes, No. He had in an N.B.A. finals game. He came into the game and what he scored was 21 or something, something. Yeah, I think it was 21. He was on fire.

4Speaker 4
00:16:52.24 – 00:16:58.56

I've got an interesting stat here in the playoffs, big cat, you know, the center, who has the highest three point percentage of all time.

1Speaker 1
00:16:59.54 – 00:17:02.24

The center in the playoffs? Wait, say it again.

4Speaker 4
00:17:03.74 – 00:17:07.22

The highest three point percentage of any center in the playoffs.

1Speaker 1
00:17:07.30 – 00:17:10.82

15 points. sorry, 15 points highest. Say it one more time.

4Speaker 4
00:17:10.90 – 00:17:15.58

Highest three point percentage of any center in the playoffs who has attempted over a hundred threes.

1Speaker 1
00:17:15.78 – 00:17:20.24

Oh, I was going to say over a hundred threes, because I was going to say, like it could be like, Shaq is like one for two.

4Speaker 4
00:17:20.34 – 00:17:22.24

Yeah, over a hundred, so it's a shooter.

1Speaker 1
00:17:23.34 – 00:17:25.60

Oof, who is it?

4Speaker 4
00:17:25.76 – 00:17:29.78

It's Jokic. Okay, it's Jokic. I thought it was a trick question. No, no, I did see the stat on NBA Reddit.

00:17:29.78 – 00:17:38.28

And also the flip side to that. I don't know who's second, do you know who the last player is? Who's worst? Embiid? it is embiid.

00:17:38.50 – 00:17:40.64

Yeah, also, Hank just might have looked at my computer.

2Speaker 2
00:17:40.84 – 00:17:41.06

Yeah.

3Speaker 3
00:17:41.36 – 00:17:43.34

I can't read that, it's also that's a no-brainer.

4Speaker 4
00:17:43.42 – 00:17:47.80

This is the dozen rigged. It is a no-brainer. Yeah, Embiid stinks compared to Jokic.

1Speaker 1
00:17:47.80 – 00:17:49.28

I was hoping it was a trick question, but yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:17:49.42 – 00:17:51.22

I just wanted to say that for no particular reason.

1Speaker 1
00:17:51.56 – 00:17:53.46

Jokic also, he's-.

3Speaker 3
00:17:53.46 – 00:17:56.68

That's crazy, he's even got that many threes off, he only plays like one round a year.

1Speaker 1
00:17:57.36 – 00:17:57.98

Who embiid?

00:18:00.10 – 00:18:01.46

Against your Celtics Max.

00:18:03.58 – 00:18:13.56

It's insane. Jokic's touch like he just throws balls up at the rim and he'll have shots that hit the front of the rim. You're like, how's that going to go in? He's like a carny.

00:18:13.62 – 00:18:21.74

And it just rolls right in. Yeah, it does feel like there's a magnet on the ball sometimes because he's just his touch is insane.

4Speaker 4
00:18:22.10 – 00:18:27.46

Murray's got crazy touch, too. That layup that he had that bounced off the top of the backboard was insane, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:18:27.46 – 00:18:36.60

All right, so that was, that was game three, good game, Stanley Cup. So we are taping the OR. We're doing a live show tonight in Chicago.

00:18:36.60 – 00:18:41.60

The dozen final, final four. What are we going to say for Drew Jordan Adventure?

4Speaker 4
00:18:41.90 – 00:18:51.66

No, fuck you Hank. First of all, I'd like to say that, Hank, I came into the office and Hank immediately goes, You know, I'm kind of rooting for Clem, Dave and Eddie to win tonight.

1Speaker 1
00:18:51.92 – 00:19:09.80

Well, it's kind of similar to Max, who said he was going to wear a Quigs jersey tonight. Max is facing off against my team in the first round and I reminded Max, Well, I just pointed out to Max that, pardon. My cheesesteak's doing pretty well and all the boys get taken care of at the end of the year.

00:19:10.72 – 00:19:24.50

It's a team effort, everyone's part of it. And I think when Hank, PFT and I all sit down and we say, who's getting what money from? Pardon my cheesesteak. We take out a big board and it just has a loyalty ranking and that's how we decide it.

4Speaker 4
00:19:24.62 – 00:19:27.18

When Hank's involved in that, I thought it was just me and you that were involved in it.

1Speaker 1
00:19:27.46 – 00:19:29.06

Hank was involved in it last year. Should we cut him out?

4Speaker 4
00:19:29.08 – 00:19:30.44

Well, that's because we allowed him to.

1Speaker 1
00:19:30.58 – 00:19:31.20

Yeah, that's true.

4Speaker 4
00:19:31.50 – 00:19:35.86

So Hank rooting against me right now, Max rooting against Big Cat, everything's coming up. Memes.

1Speaker 1
00:19:36.68 – 00:19:41.94

Memes is going to literally be the owner of Pardon my cheesesteak Congratulations Memes.

3Speaker 3
00:19:43.26 – 00:19:44.12

Meme says pink eye.

4Speaker 4
00:19:44.88 – 00:19:46.14

What wait, meme says pink eye.

1Speaker 1
00:19:47.16 – 00:19:50.50

Wait, what, you have pink eye right now?

3Speaker 3
00:19:51.24 – 00:19:52.04

That was mean.

1Speaker 1
00:19:53.22 – 00:19:54.52

I touched your hand.

4Speaker 4
00:19:54.80 – 00:19:55.88

That was fucked up, hank.

1Speaker 1
00:19:58.78 – 00:20:00.72

Yeah, actually, no, we didn't. You're so awkward.

4Speaker 4
00:20:00.84 – 00:20:08.98

We never touch anyone's hand. You know what? The most fucked up thing about this entire situation is big cat with Hank rooting against me, you know what Hank did last night?

1Speaker 1
00:20:09.18 – 00:20:09.48

What?

4Speaker 4
00:20:10.28 – 00:20:11.90

Hank hit me up at, like, what?

3Speaker 3
00:20:12.92 – 00:20:13.62

That's Firefest.

4Speaker 4
00:20:14.32 – 00:20:17.54

No, but I think it's directly tied into this conversation that we're having right now.

3Speaker 3
00:20:17.80 – 00:20:19.28

No, but it's Firefest, let's say we're Firefest.

1Speaker 1
00:20:19.46 – 00:20:20.40

I know it's Firefest.

3Speaker 3
00:20:20.56 – 00:20:25.06

As much as I like you, I would enjoy it if Brandon lost.

1Speaker 1
00:20:25.62 – 00:20:30.50

Yeah, that's the problem. PFT that you keep running into is that you have the most hateable person in the world.

3Speaker 3
00:20:30.62 – 00:20:44.30

Like, I want you to win, but I can also live with you like you. Losing could provide good content, which is good for the show, which I ultimately care about the most. So it's like, there's a rationale behind it. If it was just you, if you were playing by yourself, I'd be rooting for you.

1Speaker 1
00:20:44.30 – 00:20:47.50

But Brandon's so hateable, he's playing with like a mix of like LeBron and John Rocker.

4Speaker 4
00:20:47.62 – 00:20:49.56

But he's so hateable that he's likable.

1Speaker 1
00:20:49.90 – 00:20:52.12

No is the thing? No, Yeah, no.

3Speaker 3
00:20:52.12 – 00:20:53.88

There's no one I want to see win less.

1Speaker 1
00:20:54.00 – 00:20:55.98

There's no redeeming qualities to Brandon Walker.

4Speaker 4
00:20:57.18 – 00:20:59.46

Who would you rather see Win, Brandon or Max?

3Speaker 3
00:21:00.40 – 00:21:00.76

Max.

1Speaker 1
00:21:01.64 – 00:21:04.66

Yeah, because Max at least like, look at him, he's like a big jolly.

3Speaker 3
00:21:04.66 – 00:21:05.38

How did I get put in there?

4Speaker 4
00:21:05.38 – 00:21:06.68

He's the best loser, though.

3Speaker 3
00:21:07.22 – 00:21:08.86

Well, that's why it's kind of like, you know?

1Speaker 1
00:21:09.14 – 00:21:09.92

I almost said the meanest thing to Max.

3Speaker 3
00:21:09.92 – 00:21:11.64

You can just say yes, because you know it's never going to happen.

1Speaker 1
00:21:12.14 – 00:21:14.46

I almost said the meanest thing you can say to another fat guy.

4Speaker 4
00:21:14.58 – 00:21:16.48

It truly is, it's us against the world.

1Speaker 1
00:21:16.64 – 00:21:19.52

I almost called you cuddly, I'll take that.

3Speaker 3
00:21:19.76 – 00:21:20.38

I'll take that.

1Speaker 1
00:21:22.12 – 00:21:23.64

Cuddly Max doesn't, Oh god.

3Speaker 3
00:21:23.66 – 00:21:26.12

I just want to squeeze him between two Graham crackers.

1Speaker 1
00:21:26.42 – 00:21:26.96

Oh, no.

4Speaker 4
00:21:26.96 – 00:21:31.74

He's got a kissable face. Yeah, I want to curl up next to him like a little puppy. Oh no, he'd probably slit my throat.

1Speaker 1
00:21:32.62 – 00:21:34.06

So Panthers going to win tonight.

3Speaker 3
00:21:35.04 – 00:21:35.44

No.

1Speaker 1
00:21:35.70 – 00:21:38.72

Oh, we're in our Stanley Cup preview. That all counts, by the way.

4Speaker 4
00:21:38.88 – 00:21:40.42

Yeah, Panthers win tonight, okay.

1Speaker 1
00:21:40.74 – 00:21:48.32

All right, we'll talk about the Stanley Cup on Sunday or Saturday. Sunday Monday's show We Have a Life episode coming.

4Speaker 4
00:21:48.58 – 00:21:50.36

Yeah, I'll just say, while we're doing it.

00:21:52.12 – 00:21:54.92

We're doing a memorial service on Sunday, so we're going to tape on Saturday.

1Speaker 1
00:21:55.36 – 00:21:56.92

The preview of the NBA.

4Speaker 4
00:21:57.06 – 00:22:06.18

We're going to tape the N.B.A. reaction from Friday night's game. Yep, and then we're doing a life episode with Titus and Russillo. Long episode, great episode.

1Speaker 1
00:22:06.28 – 00:22:06.78

Great episode.

4Speaker 4
00:22:06.90 – 00:22:16.88

So it'll be stitched together that way. So we won't have any new content from Sunday, right? That's going to be coming out Monday morning. But we should cover the finals and that should all be fine. People tend to like the yeah.

00:22:17.16 – 00:22:21.50

No, I think it's panthers. I think hockey's such a fucked up sport that you shift to home ice.

00:22:23.12 – 00:22:27.86

That's the dumbest question. Hockey reporters. I don't know. are they dumb? Are they hockey guys?

1Speaker 1
00:22:28.32 – 00:22:29.30

No, they're not.

4Speaker 4
00:22:29.46 – 00:22:37.22

They're not, you can tell, because they asked the coach, like, are you going to bench Bobrovsky? and he was like, What? no, absolutely not.

00:22:37.46 – 00:22:42.80

Are you kidding me? He's like, Well, they pulled him. Yeah, they pulled him because he didn't have a great start, but it wasn't all his fault, yeah.

00:22:42.84 – 00:22:49.20

No, their team sucked in game two, so yeah, in the Stanley Cup finals, can you imagine if you bench Bobrovsky?

1Speaker 1
00:22:49.76 – 00:22:50.10

No.

4Speaker 4
00:22:50.38 – 00:22:51.36

No, it's not going to happen.

1Speaker 1
00:22:53.12 – 00:22:55.80

All right, so I'll take the Panthers tonight. Go peas.

4Speaker 4
00:22:55.90 – 00:22:57.02

Yeah, go peas, let's go peas.

1Speaker 1
00:22:57.32 – 00:23:05.90

All right, before we talk about some other stuff and get to our interview with Mike McDaniel. Quick word from our friends at Turo Turo Hank used Turo.

4Speaker 4
00:23:06.32 – 00:23:06.88

00:24:34.82 – 00:24:48.84

Okay, we should probably talk about Zion Williamson, and for people who aren't online, Zion Williamson the other day did a gender reveal with his girlfriend. Congrats to them by the way, baby girl.

4Speaker 4
00:24:49.38 – 00:24:51.14

Was it a gender reveal or was it a pregnancy reveal?

1Speaker 1
00:24:51.14 – 00:25:10.60

It might've been a pregnancy reveal still yet to be determined gender that triggered, unfortunately for Zion, a string of tweets by a lady who allegedly has been spending time with Zion and didn't know about the girlfriend. I'll read, I'll just read a random one.

00:25:12.20 – 00:25:25.00

Just a random, random one. I let you spit in my mouth. Last week when we fucked, you could have told me you had another whore pregnant. How is that going to work, moving us both to New Orleans? You think I would have found out so that you can get the gist?

00:25:25.12 – 00:25:25.20

Yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:25:25.22 – 00:25:26.90

I'd like to read another random tweet if that's okay.

1Speaker 1
00:25:27.10 – 00:25:27.52

Yeah, please.

4Speaker 4
00:25:27.70 – 00:25:38.84

Uh, I motivated you to get back in shape. I let you fuck me all kinds of ways and fill me on your phone at Zion Williamson and you impregnate a low budget porn star. DNA test, or I'm done.

1Speaker 1
00:25:39.32 – 00:25:51.78

Yeah, so that one's tough to unpack. Because it basically is like. Zion is now having his girlfriends and his girlfriend, girlfriends, and whoever his relationships are, they all are in the Zion weight loss program.

4Speaker 4
00:25:51.86 – 00:26:05.40

But I kind of like, I like the fact that she's letting him fuck her in different positions just to get a workout in. Yeah, like, it sounds like it sounds like the other girl, Mariah Mills, who's apparently a porn star as well. I don't know what, she's a porn star, I, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:26:05.46 – 00:26:08.68

It's a little confusing, so it's always alleged, I guess.

4Speaker 4
00:26:08.80 – 00:26:13.54

This should, this should clear it all up, because anytime, anytime I get confused about a situation.

00:26:15.26 – 00:26:27.36

I get a Black Sports online headline and that usually clears it all up for me. More women are planning shout out More women are planning to speak on Zion Williamson because they are upset he got an alleged squirter pregnant instead of them.

3Speaker 3
00:26:27.52 – 00:26:31.92

I love the use of alleged 30 person slideshow, 30 picture slideshow, and a podcast playing.

4Speaker 4
00:26:32.16 – 00:26:39.42

That's wonderful, wonderful journalism on his part, making sure that you don't get sued. She's allegedly a squirter that has not been confirmed.

1Speaker 1
00:26:39.76 – 00:26:43.38

So this is all alleged. Hank just looked at me, like, Well, I think the porn star like that.

3Speaker 3
00:26:45.26 – 00:26:46.10

Yeah, I guess.

1Speaker 1
00:26:46.20 – 00:26:58.62

But you could also make the argument like he is a very well-known person. Anyone could start tweeting about spitting in mouths and fucking in different positions. It seems real, but I also don't like, well, he was on Snapchat.

3Speaker 3
00:26:58.86 – 00:27:03.12

I'm sure he was on Snapchat, he's like, This can't get out there, it's Snapchat.

4Speaker 4
00:27:03.36 – 00:27:09.78

Are we sure it was Zion Williamson? because the the screen name was Zion Williamson? On Snapchat? It could have been anybody.

1Speaker 1
00:27:10.02 – 00:27:23.28

Yeah, and um, as far as the spitting in mouth. I just try to spin zone this for Zion and be like, maybe he's, you know, not finishing all his food, maybe he that's part of the workout program, or he's losing water weight that way.

3Speaker 3
00:27:24.08 – 00:27:33.26

I was just researching this the topic on Twitter, and someone tweeted Thoughts and glocks. A Zion Williamson and John Morant documentary coming soon, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:27:33.42 – 00:27:34.78

So jaws the other part.

4Speaker 4
00:27:34.86 – 00:27:37.98

It sounds like she's a Rastafarian, the way she mounts. Zion, Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:27:38.40 – 00:27:42.14

I mean, she had some, she went on a tweet spree.

4Speaker 4
00:27:43.14 – 00:27:50.42

Oh, here's another one. Don't call my phone at Zion Williamson. You lost me for good until I see DNA. I'm done, yeah.

00:27:50.50 – 00:27:52.04

Shout out Marsha Clark, Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:27:52.76 – 00:27:59.86

Yeah, there was a I told you, I told you you was going to be the next king next to LeBron. I motivated you.

3Speaker 3
00:28:00.72 – 00:28:03.82

Uh, on these women are 33 29.

1Speaker 1
00:28:04.34 – 00:28:11.54

Your baby mama is the reason you gained weight, so now we have alleged reasons for gaining weight, too.

4Speaker 4
00:28:12.06 – 00:28:30.32

Because the baby mama was toxic, was feeding him toxic, you know what? That does sound toxic? It sounds like she was trying to get. This happens in relationships sometimes, if you ever seen like My thousand pound Wife or whatever that show is. Sometimes in an abusive relationship, somebody will make the other person fat so that other people won't find them desirable.

00:28:30.66 – 00:28:40.00

So it sounds like that's what the baby mama was doing, trying to get them fat. The porn star was like, Hey, I want you to be in better shape. I'm going to be the next LeBron. Sounds like she's the real rider.

00:28:40.10 – 00:28:40.44

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:28:41.00 – 00:28:53.72

And also the. The woman who went on the tweets for a spree about Zion Like, said she's still moving to New Orleans. So I think he still has two girlfriends. Which kind of rocks pending the DNA? Yeah, pending the DNA. Also just a heads up design.

00:28:53.80 – 00:29:00.10

Like, when someone goes on a tweet spree about you like this, don't call them right away, because then they can be like, Look, he's calling me.

4Speaker 4
00:29:00.20 – 00:29:06.94

Yeah, oh, you know what? This actually does explain a lot about Zion's weight gain. He's got two girlfriends, he's going out to two dinners a night.

00:29:07.98 – 00:29:17.66

He's got to put on weight. Double breakfast, Yeah, I've seen double lunch. I've seen enough shitty sitcoms to know the the, uh, the plot point. Where you're at one restaurant and you're like, Oh, I got to go to the bathroom.

00:29:17.72 – 00:29:22.38

You sprint to the other restaurant. Yeah, sit down for a little bit. Oh, I got to go to the bathroom, go back to the first restaurant.

1Speaker 1
00:29:22.42 – 00:29:29.02

This is kind of like when I eat dinner with my kids at home and then I come back to the studio and then we get like a huge spread of meal.

4Speaker 4
00:29:29.16 – 00:29:31.36

Yeah, he's been eating double snacks and double pussy.

1Speaker 1
00:29:31.54 – 00:29:47.14

Yeah, so Zion, maybe not the best day. I would like to get a comment from Mike Malone being like, why are people talking about Zion? And not the nuggets? That I just imagining him being mad about? That would be very funny. And then we have John Morant, who his camp is now alleging that it's a toy gun.

00:29:47.54 – 00:29:55.98

So if it were a toy gun credits a job, because he basically, like, it's like a nicotine patch, he's weaning himself off guns.

4Speaker 4
00:29:56.18 – 00:30:07.92

Do you think? But if I was John Morant, I'd be pissed off at my team for putting that information out there. Because you're essentially saying that the gun that you held up in the live stream was such a shitty, ridiculous gun that it could be mistaken for a toy gun.

1Speaker 1
00:30:07.96 – 00:30:09.76

I think the first gun could have been more of the toy.

4Speaker 4
00:30:09.82 – 00:30:11.22

That was a that was like a Derringer.

1Speaker 1
00:30:11.28 – 00:30:17.48

Yeah, so uh, interesting, interesting, uh, like path forward for jaw.

4Speaker 4
00:30:17.64 – 00:30:23.12

When is when is Adam Silver going to announce the suspension? is it going to be like at the trophy ceremony?

1Speaker 1
00:30:23.22 – 00:30:26.30

Cause he's got a suspension ready for draft right before the first pick.

4Speaker 4
00:30:26.32 – 00:30:26.72

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:30:27.40 – 00:30:56.40

That would actually be mean, but hilarious if he mentioned it right before the Grizzlies pick. And then we also had, uh, in NBA news, this really was a day that they were like, how many stories can we have that take away from the Nuggets? Uh, Chris Paul has reportedly been waived, but he's not waived because why would they waive them? Right now? They don't have to. And it sounds like, if you're reading between the lines, The Sun's basically sat him down, like, Hey, we owe you $30 million.

00:30:56.66 – 00:31:07.10

We're not going to pay you $30 million, we're going to probably waive you, so we only have to pay you 15, and then we'd like to resign you for way less. And it doesn't feel like it's headed for a good ending there.

4Speaker 4
00:31:07.22 – 00:31:18.06

The way that it's being framed right now in the news makes it seem like Chris Paul isn't coming back. And so if you're Chris Paul, even if that was the plan, the way that it's played out would probably make you more inclined to not be a son next year.

1Speaker 1
00:31:18.32 – 00:31:39.48

I also didn't. I wasn't aware of the Chris Paul clip where he talked about, uh, his daughter getting, uh, like, bullied at school. Which sucks, that does suck. But the example he used was, he's like, Yeah, my daughter was at school and a kid went up to her. It was like, your dad's never going to win a ring. So I just want to say a shout out to the 12 year olds in the Phoenix area who were listening to part of my take.

00:31:39.58 – 00:31:45.22

Yeah, I was like, Wait, was that? that was that the meanest thing? Like it sucks, it sucks.

00:31:45.28 – 00:31:52.78

Cause no kid should be bullied, especially when their dad's a fucking professional athlete, but the example using just being like, your dad's not going to win a ring.

4Speaker 4
00:31:53.54 – 00:32:07.06

I Yeah, yeah. Can you imagine if somebody came up to your son in preschool and was like, your dad's never going to win an iHeartMedia podcast? He's lost seven in a row. Also, shout out to Chris Paul for that that quote that came out, Um, what, two years ago, three years ago?

00:32:07.14 – 00:32:14.14

Yeah, I'm kind of addicted to playing in the N.B.A. finals. Yeah, he kicked it. He should, he should be advising John Moran on how to get rid of the gun addiction.

1Speaker 1
00:32:14.16 – 00:32:15.28

He just needs to go to the Lakers.

4Speaker 4
00:32:15.48 – 00:32:16.62

He quit Finals Cold Turkey.

1Speaker 1
00:32:16.74 – 00:32:20.60

Yeah, he needs to go to the Lakers, I think, let him go to the Lakers, let's have fun with that.

4Speaker 4
00:32:20.84 – 00:32:27.54

It would be nice to see him, though there'd be a full circle moment. Yeah, I mean, Chris Paul was supposed to be a laker, yeah.

00:32:27.60 – 00:32:30.26

People forget that. David Stern said, No, that trade's not happening.

1Speaker 1
00:32:30.34 – 00:32:44.40

Yeah, we get to Dwayne Wade can maybe coach the banana boat whole team, the banana boat squad. Uh, all right, last things before we get to our interview, uh, so the little little bit of live stuff. There was a report.

00:32:44.40 – 00:32:55.66

I don't know if you saw this, that John Rom was like, about to jump to live, so that would. That would probably help, like, understand the timeline and how quickly everything went down.

4Speaker 4
00:32:55.76 – 00:33:05.00

That's what I was saying to Dan Rappaport. I was like, it seems like a seismic event. Whether that, and in the back of my mind, it was like Scotty Sheffler or John Rom would be enough to make them come to the table.

1Speaker 1
00:33:05.12 – 00:33:17.96

Right, and cause you then would have the Masters winner and the PGA champions. So the first two majors of the year be on live tour. And then the Rory's just going through it because there's reports of like, live players.

00:33:19.50 – 00:33:35.14

On our team. Um, I think I also read something where they they basically were like, Yeah, we're going to, we're going to. What I was saying, Uh, on Wednesday. Like, they're going to find a way to make a lot of these guys not whole, but like, pay a lot of the players. But they're like, but not Rory, he's not getting anything.

4Speaker 4
00:33:35.28 – 00:33:40.56

Well, so with with Rory? He said he felt like a sacrificial lamb when he was talking to media, and he absolutely was, yes.

1Speaker 1
00:33:40.70 – 00:33:42.66

They used Rory J. Monahan used them.

4Speaker 4
00:33:42.78 – 00:33:57.28

Yeah, so if I was Rory, I'd be, I'd be furious. I still don't see a way how how the players can look J. Monahan in the eyes as their commissioner and how he moves forward. I guess it's not their call. I think if enough players make a big enough stink about, I'm I'm sure they could probably figure out a way to get me.

1Speaker 1
00:33:57.46 – 00:34:07.82

Again, I just go back to the He probably is like, it's you guys are gonna make more money, and it's it's like, it's not right. It's the whole thing is fucked up. On the J. Monahan part, I don't care about live like I did.

00:34:08.06 – 00:34:20.26

This is good for golf fans. I'm happy that all the players can be competing against each other. I just think J. Monahan's a snake. But if I had to put myself in his brain for a second, he's literally just being like, Guys, I know you're mad at me. But money?

4Speaker 4
00:34:20.66 – 00:34:26.74

Yeah, money, there's money, money. Uh, did you see the clip of Bryson going on CNN? And they asked him about Nine 11?

00:34:26.74 – 00:34:39.44

Pretty much they were like, what about all the stuff that the Saudis did? And Bryson kind of yada yada, yada. Nine 11, which is the first time I think that's ever happened. But he also said that he hopes that, uh, because the live tour and the PGA are emerging, that there won't be another nine 11. Yeah.

00:34:39.44 – 00:34:45.22

And so, shout out to Bryson Shambo, him and Mark Wahlberg. Handshake meme preventing a.

1Speaker 1
00:34:45.22 – 00:34:54.90

Possible nine 11. David Guetta All these guys just fixing the world. Golf music makes the world go around. Your your Apple watch is talking again. Um, yeah.

00:34:54.96 – 00:35:22.72

Jay Monahan went on TV too, and man, that guy should never go on TV, he is. That was as uncomfortable as you could get in the in. It's a. He did an interview and he knew the question was going to happen where it's like, you worked with the Nine 11, like, uh, the people who, who, you know, the families of Nine 11 and all these people. You worked hand in hand with them to put out this message and then you stab them all in the back. What are your thoughts?

00:35:22.74 – 00:35:24.56

And he just was, he had nothing.

4Speaker 4
00:35:24.72 – 00:35:52.74

If you're Jay Monahan, I go back to. You can say we don't want to take their money. We don't want to be in bed. With a public investment fund from a state that that's had questionable activities in the past, you can say that, or you can do the thing that he did, which was directly refer to Nine 11. Bring the widows and the family members out. If you go that second path, where you have the families and you talk about Nine 11 explicitly, then you can't take the money, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:35:52.78 – 00:35:54.20

You've entered them into the conversation.

4Speaker 4
00:35:54.40 – 00:36:05.44

You cannot take the money. You can always be a half snake about it and say, like, we don't want to do business with them, their money's questionable. That seems like a big headache that is not worth the juice, isn't worth the squeeze at that point.

00:36:05.90 – 00:36:17.64

Then you can be a snake and end up taking the money anyways. But you can't directly talk about terrorist attacks. And what a shame it is that other guys are taking their money and use the families as props and then go behind all their backs.

3Speaker 3
00:36:18.26 – 00:36:48.64

Jimmy Dune, who was the one of the PGA guys who got in the mix and like, help make the deal happen, worked in one of the twin towers. Wasn't there that day but lost, like his boss, his mentor, 60 coworkers only, wasn't there cause he was trying to qualify for like the U S. Open or something. He was at a at a tournament. He just was on TV, where we're recording the afternoon, and he said on the golf channel. If someone can find someone who unequivocally was involved with it, I'll kill them myself. Oh, what he was asking about Nine 11.?

1Speaker 1
00:36:48.98 – 00:36:51.40

Damn, he just went, dog the bounty hunter on us.

4Speaker 4
00:36:51.52 – 00:36:53.32

I'll kill them myself. Good for him.

1Speaker 1
00:36:53.86 – 00:36:54.26

Okay.

4Speaker 4
00:36:54.36 – 00:36:58.96

All right, uh, well, you know how? Jay Monahan said that in new information has come to light.

3Speaker 3
00:36:58.96 – 00:37:08.04

I do feel like, though Jimmy Dune, like, probably helped Jay Monahan. He was like, Well, no, he pushed it through and he was like, what about the nine 11 thing?

1Speaker 1
00:37:08.08 – 00:37:11.18

He's like, Well, he's like, Ah, nah, 20 years.

3Speaker 3
00:37:11.24 – 00:37:22.54

Yeah, he's like, if anyone, there's part of me that thinks that where it's like him. Saying that we can push through this with them probably made Jay Monahan be like, Well, you know, he wants everyone he knows in Nine 11 and he wants to do this.

1Speaker 1
00:37:22.64 – 00:37:45.42

It's a shitty thing, but it's also how the world works. Money and power just run everything. I remember Jimmy Dune being like, Oh, I get more power now. And I get to be like. He's a now a board member of the new PGA Tour, and he's he basically gets to do like. I was like, he has membership to every awesome golf club like Augusta Shinnecock or shot a 72 seminole, all these places.

00:37:45.50 – 00:37:53.74

He now gets even more power just by being a scumbag. And he can, that's, he can write. He can go to sleep at night being like, Oh, yep, I have all this power.

4Speaker 4
00:37:53.92 – 00:37:58.66

Is it Jimmy Dune or Jimmy Dunn? I don't know how to say his name, but if you look at his resume, I'll tell you, I'll tell.

1Speaker 1
00:38:00.96 – 00:38:01.44

You Nine 11.

4Speaker 4
00:38:01.62 – 00:38:15.14

If Jimmy Jimmy Dunn ever finds him, he gets his hands on, Well, Jimmy Dunn. Let me introduce you to a man named George W. Bush. That would be an all time twist, wouldn't it? Yeah, but Jimmy Dunn goes to jail for killing George W.

00:38:15.24 – 00:38:44.46

Bush, If you look at Jimmy Dunn's resume, or Jimmy Dune, whatever his name is, he was pretty much explicitly brought in just to close this deal. That's what he does is he's like, he's a big power financier. He was brought in, I think, in November 2022, pretty much just to do this mission. And which mission accomplished for him? Another, Uh, nevermind. I'm not going to go down that road, but it does seem that's a good point. That Jay Monahan was like, Okay, I've got this guy who's lived through it, who's experienced some of that trauma.

00:38:44.86 – 00:38:50.50

And if he says it's okay, then Jay Monahan gets to do like. Some of my best friends are actually nine. 11 survivors.

1Speaker 1
00:38:50.64 – 00:38:52.28

So my best friends were playing golf on Nine 11.

4Speaker 4
00:38:52.32 – 00:38:53.98

Yeah, so it's okay. Yeah, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:38:54.16 – 00:38:57.08

Uh, it's, I mean, it's just money wins.

4Speaker 4
00:38:57.30 – 00:38:57.64

Yep.

1Speaker 1
00:38:57.80 – 00:39:19.10

It's if you haven't figured that out by now, you will someday. Money wins. Uh, all right, last thing before we get to the interview, Uh. The Vikings. I don't want to take another victory lap. But the Vikings seem to be doing things, uh, like rebuilding type things where they realize, Hey, maybe last year was a little fluky.

00:39:19.10 – 00:39:42.70

So they are trying to trade Dalvin Cook, uh, probably going to cut him, and then they're also taking offers for Daniel Hunter, their pass rusher. So it smart moves by them to be like, Hey, we probably can't replicate what happened last year. Maybe we should start figuring out a way to sell high on a lot of these things and start rebuilding for the future. But it, it does feel exactly like.

00:39:42.70 – 00:39:43.54

That's what's going on.

4Speaker 4
00:39:43.72 – 00:39:52.82

DALVIN Cook seems to be on on the tail end of his career. And it's sad to say, cause as a running back he was awesome. What two years ago, three years ago, he didn't have a great season last year.

1Speaker 1
00:39:52.98 – 00:40:02.36

I feel like when he plays, it's just when he plays, and maybe this is also because his backup, Alexander Madison kind of looks like him. So you just combine all those yards together.

4Speaker 4
00:40:02.36 – 00:40:15.88

As far as their defense goes, I know I know Hunter's a great player, but also that defense probably can't get any worse than it was last year. Yeah, so if it only if it gets better marginally somehow, and you get a good haulback for Hunter, then I think that you're in a better position.

1Speaker 1
00:40:17.32 – 00:40:20.02

He had a he had a almost 1200 yards rushing.

4Speaker 4
00:40:20.78 – 00:40:28.20

Maybe I'm wrong about that, I maybe I'm. I'm thinking of of the clips that I've seen and the games that I've watched him play. But it seems like he lost a little bit of explosive.

1Speaker 1
00:40:28.28 – 00:40:43.42

Yeah, no, he had a. It was actually his second best rushing season in terms of yardage, total yardage. So he and he played all the games. So I was wrong about that. I guess he, I guess he wasn't injured. It feels like he always missed like two or three games. But either way, it's smart to sell on them.

4Speaker 4
00:40:43.50 – 00:40:50.98

They're building the team around Kirk Cousins. Yeah, this year is the year that we find out if Kirk Cousins is elite, we're going to keep.

1Speaker 1
00:40:50.98 – 00:40:57.32

Our minds open, we absolutely are okay. Let's get to our interview with Mike McDaniel on the other side.

00:40:57.36 – 00:41:22.66

We're gonna do 38 at the Garden Review and Fire Fest before we get to Mike McDaniel, Farmer's Dog. So before they started advertising, that's how much I love it. I found it online, she loves it, I love it, it's super easy.

00:41:29.50 – 00:41:45.28

The Farmer's Dog makes and delivers fresh, healthy dog food. It's recommended by vets, nutritionally balanced and made from human grade ingredients in safe, clean kitchens. It's the best option for dogs at all stages of life. Because it's not kibble, it's not canned goo, it's just real food.

00:42:20.48 – 00:42:26.16

00:42:28.94 – 00:42:44.52

Okay, we now welcome on a very, very special guest. It is head coach of the Miami Dolphins, Mike McDaniel coach. It has been a long time coming to have you on the show, so much. So I'm going to ask you kind of an awkward first question.

2Speaker 2
00:42:45.24 – 00:42:46.40

Let's get awkward, bro.

1Speaker 1
00:42:46.42 – 00:42:56.16

Okay, did you see when PFT and I texted you and did you just ignore it? because we did text you at the combine so you ignored it? hmm?

4Speaker 4
00:42:56.42 – 00:43:04.16

Yeah, yeah, we can pull up the thread real quick. Because before we started recording here, you just said that we've been ducking you. We were under the impression that you've been ducking us.

2Speaker 2
00:43:05.04 – 00:43:10.72

I mean, there's various definitions of ducking. Yeah, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:43:11.22 – 00:43:21.80

We got your number from Kevin Stefanski, who we had on the show, and we shot you a text at the combine. We said, Coach, we'd love to have you on. We'll do it anytime, anywhere you tell us.

?Unknown Speaker
00:43:22.40 – 00:43:22.80

Crickets.

1Speaker 1
00:43:23.30 – 00:43:25.14

Crickets, we're like, Does he hate us?

2Speaker 2
00:43:25.76 – 00:43:29.34

No, it's just plain hard to get look at what's happening right now.

1Speaker 1
00:43:29.42 – 00:43:29.78

Yes.

2Speaker 2
00:43:30.06 – 00:43:38.02

It's true and this is consensual. Yes, so I mean, it could be true that you texted me, It could not be true.

00:43:38.02 – 00:43:47.14

I lead the league in. Terrible phone, I don't know behavior.

1Speaker 1
00:43:47.36 – 00:43:47.48

Yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:43:48.20 – 00:44:00.68

You know, I try to be present wherever I'm at. There's a cost of that, and it's communicating with people that aren't around me. So I apologize if I did, but I'm not sure if that's the case.

4Speaker 4
00:44:00.92 – 00:44:09.26

Okay, so I've got the text thread right here. Yeah, big cat on Wednesday, March 1st, texted you at 5.23 p..m. I'm in PFT from part of my take.

00:44:09.52 – 00:44:26.10

We're in Indy for the next couple of days and would love to have you on the show if you have a free 30 minutes. We just wrapped up with Stefanski so he can vouch that we're not bad guys and it will be fun. Yeah, hope all is well. And then I waited an appropriate amount of time, an hour and a half, and then I said, Love you coach Dash.

00:44:26.10 – 00:44:26.98

PFT commenter.

2Speaker 2
00:44:27.06 – 00:44:35.22

Yeah, but you're not going to read the audience, the third text, the one that was at 3.30 a..m that said you up.

3Speaker 3
00:44:35.76 – 00:44:36.40

Oh yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:44:36.60 – 00:44:40.36

Yeah, that's true. So you read a lot of those that night, so you might've fallen through the cracks.

1Speaker 1
00:44:40.38 – 00:44:53.48

Well, I just wanted to clear up that part. Because when you were off, we were like, Yeah, we've been trying to get them on forever. So much so that we were harassing them on text. So I'm happy that we at least have you on the show now, and maybe you'll respond to our texts now.

2Speaker 2
00:44:54.28 – 00:45:12.16

Well, what if I took it a step further and said? Not only are the doors open for this relationship to blossom, but I'm a huge fan of everything you guys do. I was just trying to play hard to get, hoping you guys would treat me like a hot girl.

1Speaker 1
00:45:12.40 – 00:45:14.14

Yeah, we got you, we got you.

4Speaker 4
00:45:14.14 – 00:45:16.24

It worked. You look great today, by the way, your eyes.

1Speaker 1
00:45:16.42 – 00:45:17.28

We chased you.

4Speaker 4
00:45:17.34 – 00:45:18.84

That burn brings out the eyes.

2Speaker 2
00:45:19.90 – 00:45:22.04

You shouldn't compliment me, but continue to.

1Speaker 1
00:45:22.18 – 00:45:31.28

Yeah, all right. Well, it is great that you're on. We have wanted to have you on since you got hired. Actually, probably before that, when you were at the Niners, you were going viral.

00:45:31.48 – 00:45:33.40

It felt like every week I'll start there.

2Speaker 2
00:45:33.60 – 00:45:34.78

You didn't know who I was? Yeah, I did.

4Speaker 4
00:45:34.88 – 00:45:35.48

Yeah, we did, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:45:35.48 – 00:45:58.56

I mean, we Kittle told us, Kittle was like this guy Mike, he just the way he schemes up a run game. Hoof. Let's start there, though, because we have always said that when the 49ers and now the Dolphins when they run the football. There's something about it that is just so beautiful to watch. At what point in your life did you fall in love with the run game?

00:45:58.58 – 00:46:04.60

I would assume you know you, you grew up watching Mike Shanahan's offense. What point in your life where you're like, the run game is it?

2Speaker 2
00:46:05.48 – 00:46:51.90

Well, you know, uh, I did have a special attachment, um, to the Run game because of the The Bronco fandom, as it were, um, specifically 95. Um, you know, when Mike Shannon first got there and was with Terrell Davis, um, and they, they, you know, there'd been no championship to the city of Denver. Um, and then, on the heels of a legitimate run game, they, they got two Superbowls out there. There's always the seed plants, um, but from a career perspective, it kind of happened. Um, out of survival, um. So I'm I'm coming from the UFL, going to Washington, working with Kyle Shanahan.

00:46:52.36 – 00:47:25.32

Um, again, for you know, I'd worked with him in Houston and I had previously trained, um, Matt Lafleur before I went to the UFL. Um, and he was in Washington as the quarterback coach, and right when I got there, so I knew him. But on top of that, there was Sean McVay, um, and, uh, there was a lot of competing voices. You know, you get there in mid February and you're in cutups with the with the whole coaching staff and you're watching all the past game. And it's just like, you know, it was guru after guru, just contributing to the conversation.

00:47:25.32 – 00:47:43.04

And I was like, Wow, I am not the young, smart guy anymore. Um, and then we got to the run game. So you do it in phases, you do it like you, just you don't watch it in game, or you watch like. You look at all the players and all the concepts that you're using. So you're watching all the past game first, then you go to the run game.

00:47:43.28 – 00:48:26.20

Well, the whole staff, out of the whole staff. The only person that was talking and um, really, uh, orchestrating conversation with with Kyle was Chris Burster. Um, about the run game. And I thought to myself, You know, I, I, I'm into having a career and eating, you know, and living in a house. Um, maybe I should learn what that guy knows. And in that process, there, um, carved a little niche that, uh, you know it, it grew on me. I didn't really know that it was going to be that strong, but it, it ends up. It ended up becoming like a passion.

00:48:26.20 – 00:48:31.22

Yeah, um, and I found value, you know, so I was able to have a job, which is cool.

1Speaker 1
00:48:31.42 – 00:48:48.80

That's awesome, I mean, the fact that it was born out of survival, which you could say. For the run game, you like, you have to run the ball to survive in the N.FL, so do you still have that same passion for the run game? Cause, like we said, like when when the 49ers run the ball, there's something about it. It's like, it's sexier than a pass, than a deep pass.

2Speaker 2
00:48:49.70 – 00:49:15.66

No, absolutely, um, probably, even, probably, even more so at this point. You know, you, you, you're, you're. You take one season, um, and and you try to, you know, uh, we're fortunate, um, enough to work in an industry that's thriving. And there's a lot of people that care about football. Um, and so it can be like, Oh, is he a? is he a pass guy? I'm still the same exact exact enthusiast.

00:49:16.22 – 00:49:26.94

Um, you just it. One of the reasons it's so cool is cause you just don't for it to look that way. You just don't. Um, we'll say, Uh, I don't know, poop.

4Speaker 4
00:49:27.34 – 00:49:29.52

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:49:29.56 – 00:49:30.14

Poop it out.

4Speaker 4
00:49:30.44 – 00:49:30.86

Yeah, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:49:32.68 – 00:50:00.96

Uh, but like, like, it takes so much deliberate work. And the reason why it looks different is because you're you're also coaching players to do stuff differently, so that you know that's why it looks. And that's hard. And there's, there's also, you know, the element of players getting used to it, players trusting that leap of faith. Um, there's. It's a lot of work that you can't, um, short change.

00:50:01.30 – 00:50:37.18

I don't think there's been one, you know? This is the 17th, 17th team that I've, uh, that I've worked on in the NFL. Um, so, it's the sixth time that, you know, it's all been in the same offense, It's the sixth time that we've taken an offense somewhere. Um, you know, from my experience, and you know, that's, that's. Generally, I don't think there's like, one year that we, you know, just ran, ran the ball at will. Um, it. It takes time, so it's something that we've put a huge emphasis on.

00:50:37.18 – 00:50:49.72

And, uh, you know, I I think the you don't. The reason why it's so cool to you is because that there's no shortcut to getting time and effort and commitment and conviction.

4Speaker 4
00:50:50.12 – 00:51:01.72

It is beautiful, I mean, some of the seven yard runs that you've had in the last couple of years have just been the most fun place to watch. I also love how you respect the fullback position, you've got a great fullback and Alec Ingold one of our favorites badger.

00:51:02.04 – 00:51:03.28

Badger Yeah, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:51:03.38 – 00:51:13.20

He is a supremely underrated UM player in the National Football League that I hope gains some momentum because he is a man, he's a good player.

4Speaker 4
00:51:13.30 – 00:51:22.30

He's awesome, we had to have a word with him a couple of years ago because he was starting to do. The players do now where they jump over tacklers and they try the other thing, you know, that thing, it's like, Dude, you're down.

00:51:22.70 – 00:51:27.00

Yeah, you're a fullback, lower your shoulder, you don't go over people, you go through people.

00:51:27.34 – 00:51:29.44

And he seems to have really turned the corner after that.

2Speaker 2
00:51:29.60 – 00:51:32.42

How high do you get every time he runs somebody over?

4Speaker 4
00:51:32.72 – 00:51:34.14

Uh, very high. yeah, I nut.

2Speaker 2
00:51:34.44 – 00:51:36.10

I made him do that, yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:51:36.26 – 00:51:50.02

Yeah, it's pretty nice, but uh, yeah, like when you watch your run game, it almost seems like you make. The wide receivers, the fullbacks and the tight ends all play like offensive linemen and block like offensive linemen.

2Speaker 2
00:51:50.64 – 00:51:55.18

You know, shout out. This seed was planted in 2005.

00:51:55.94 – 00:52:22.20

Um, my first year as a coaching intern in Denver. And shout out to Mike Shanahan because he set the whole vision and he it was genius about him. So, you know, it's a wide receiver position is tricky in general because you get compensated for the past game. And typically, you know, um, you know, good football players have pride and they and they try to do it.

00:52:22.28 – 00:52:27.90

But the bottom line is, it's not like, well, let's go pay this guy, cause he's got sick blocks.

1Speaker 1
00:52:28.00 – 00:52:29.08

Right, you know?

2Speaker 2
00:52:29.62 – 00:53:46.16

So how do you, um, incentivize guys to participate in, you know, something that's, you know, less dividend pain directly, as, you know, catching a pass. And what what coach Shanahan would do is he would meet with. Um, he'd watch Thursday's practice, the team run period, um, which, you know, everybody does around the league in some way, shape or form. But he would watch that portion of practice as an entire offense on Friday. With the thinking that the best way to motivate receivers, to take pride in detail in the run game. The best way to really emphasize that it takes all 11 players to, uh, on the field to run the ball well is to have them all watch that together. And that's it's the peer pressure from the locker room. Guys saying, dude, what you're just going to, you're just going to loaf and let me get, um, tattooed by. A strong safety like that was his kind of, uh, way of really emphasizing and getting that done.

00:53:46.18 – 00:54:15.14

And that, you know, every place we've been, we've kind of taken that, um, and it, and it's something that you just can't rely on your. Your offensive coordinator has to be fully committed to it, the receiver coach has to be willing to drive at home, unbeknownst to most people. Um, Wes Welker is like, a, uh, low key run game guy and just loves receiver blocks more than anything. Um, so all that has, you know, for it to look different, you have to approach it different.

00:54:15.14 – 00:54:24.60

And um, you, you, you get what you emphasize. So, uh, you know, not many people have described run game as beautiful, so I really appreciate that.

1Speaker 1
00:54:24.60 – 00:54:26.62

And Sex described it, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:54:27.12 – 00:54:29.10

And my wife looks at me like, I'm a weirdo.

1Speaker 1
00:54:29.30 – 00:54:29.56

Yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:54:29.66 – 00:54:37.28

Well, yeah, no, we love, we love watching that. Yes, uh, you, I'm. I'm glad that you brought it up. Earlier, you mentioned that Washington Redskins team, it's not like.

00:54:37.28 – 00:54:42.44

I don't think about that every single day, about how we had you, Shanahan.

00:54:43.98 – 00:54:52.48

Lafleur And, uh, and Sean McVay in the same room as coaches, which one of you four was the alpha in that situation?

2Speaker 2
00:54:52.48 – 00:55:22.14

No, I mean, clearly the most physically imposing you, right? Yeah, um, no, I mean, we were all. It was such a cool U.M. environment, because, you know, Kyle was, you know, so young as a coordinator. He got started at 28. Um, and he made sure when he got the job that his. It was because of his football acumen and not his last name.

00:55:23.66 – 00:56:02.40

Um, uh, he was as prepared as a young coaches that there ever could be, uh, and we were all very, very ambitious. Um, and he was eager to teach, and it was his vision, him, along with his father. That was like, you know what, who cares about the norms? Let's get, let's develop some coaches, um, and find some talented ones. And and and really not, you know, cause they got a bunch of heat from the Washington Post at the time that called us the fun bunch and have pictures of us. And just kind of, you know, cause.

00:56:02.40 – 00:56:25.80

We were very young, um, but he, he wouldn't. He had that vision and we were just all pumped to see how good we could get, um, in our time together. Uh, so it, Kyle was definitely the alpha, um, and then it was just like, Uh, who can, uh, wow the boss the most? This cool idea?

00:56:26.14 – 00:56:41.36

And it, it made it. You know, you didn't really get a coast at all, because you coast for a second and you look over your shoulder. And one of your peers, um, is given three great ideas to, Uh, to Kyle and his dad, yeah.

4Speaker 4
00:56:41.68 – 00:56:45.90

Yeah, a lot of great minds in that room, for sure. Now. Um, big cat, do you want to ask the question about?

1Speaker 1
00:56:46.20 – 00:56:48.78

We do have a hypothetical. It's not about that.

4Speaker 4
00:56:48.82 – 00:56:49.32

I mean, sorry.

1Speaker 1
00:56:49.74 – 00:57:01.12

The question not about Matt, it's just a hypothetical football question. We ask this on every football coach. Um, all right, so you're down eight. There is, uh, two minutes left in the game.

00:57:01.36 – 00:57:08.88

You have all three timeouts, uh, you're on for fourth and goal on the like seven or eight yard line.

00:57:10.80 – 00:57:12.90

Or do you go for the touchdown, you're down eight?

00:57:16.54 – 00:57:28.42

Well, if I mean in theory, and let's say hypothetically to the team that you're playing against has the greatest quarterback of all time on the other sideline, uh-huh.

2Speaker 2
00:57:28.48 – 00:57:33.80

And then I guess it's semantics. Is it a elimination game?

1Speaker 1
00:57:33.86 – 00:57:34.84

It's an elimination game.

4Speaker 4
00:57:35.30 – 00:57:36.54

Get out the golf clubs.

2Speaker 2
00:57:38.30 – 00:57:41.40

You know, I think I take a knee, all right?

1Speaker 1
00:57:41.52 – 00:57:45.50

That would definitely screw them up.

2Speaker 2
00:57:46.34 – 00:58:28.66

You know, the funny thing? Uh, I think, uh, I. I felt, um, for Matt, cause I knew it's exactly what he was doing. And anytime you make any decision as a as a coach, um, it'd be a farce. To not x that, to not submit to the fact that I don't know what's going to work. I would do that all the time. So you have to make a calculated decision that you feel good with. I talked to Matt after the game. Um, you know, we talked through if there were some disparities in thought process, but he knew why he was doing it.

00:58:28.82 – 00:58:35.46

So, you know, it's just one of those deals that, um, if you're right, you're the man, and if you're wrong, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:58:35.70 – 00:58:39.14

If you're wrong, it gets brought up on part of my take for the rest of history.

2Speaker 2
00:58:41.40 – 00:58:53.72

And what's ironic is, you continue to do that and cause Matt LaFleur is one of the greatest guys I know. All he does is needle me and text me about how I need to come on your guys show, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:58:53.82 – 00:58:58.16

So I mean, we love Matt Lafleur. Um, question off that.

2Speaker 2
00:58:58.16 – 00:58:59.26

What a good looking guy, right?

1Speaker 1
00:58:59.36 – 00:59:09.90

The best looking guy, the best looking guy, he's the best looking. And I'll say this because I know Sean McVay would get upset. But he's, he's of the of the fun bunch of that group, he's by far the best looking guy.

2Speaker 2
00:59:11.28 – 00:59:13.20

You haven't seen me as my shirt off.

1Speaker 1
00:59:13.32 – 00:59:15.48

That's true, but I'm still taking Matt Lafleur.

2Speaker 2
00:59:15.90 – 00:59:19.28

Matt Lafleur with a change in the ranking. Yeah, it was just true.

1Speaker 1
00:59:19.58 – 00:59:38.58

True, Um, all right. So based off that real football question, off that, uh, when it comes to those types of decisions on the sidelines, how many guys are in your ear? How? What's the process that goes through those split second decisions of go for it? Don't? Um, I know that you have a chart, but is it like you're going with the charters?

00:59:38.68 – 00:59:40.12

There's some gut involved as well.

2Speaker 2
00:59:40.84 – 01:00:30.62

There's a lot of that for me. Um, you know, I think it's so important to be, um, super prepared for any game. Because what I don't want to happen is ever to. To look in hindsight at a decision to be like, well, that was influenced by emotion. Um, so what? I'm as prepared as I can possibly be for the opponent and then understand that, um, my best will either be good enough or it won't in terms of my contribution. But the team, the players on the field, are going to determine the outcome. So, that being said, that preparation also goes to the people that, um, you lean on, you know, in your analytics department for, um, all the game type scenarios.

01:00:30.78 – 01:01:23.14

That's something that, um, every every Thursday, um during the week, um, for like, the last week of my work day. You know, I meet, um, with those guys. And you know, basically every, every headset's different. The procedure that kind of happens on on ours in particular is I'm just very, um. I make sure that I don't negatively reinforce information on Game day. So, uh, I, I let people know that I'm very open to taking any information that's legitimate. Having said that, they kind of get a rhythm of like, you know, there's a certain tempo when you know exactly where you're going with, with certain things that you'll be talking on the headset. Like, coaches won't jump in with a play, suggestions or anything.

01:01:23.14 – 01:01:37.26

They just let you roll. Um, same thing goes with with the analytics, analytics advisors is they're talking to me when you know, as we've mapped out potential scenarios, when it's appropriate to get me the.

1Speaker 1
01:01:37.26 – 01:01:38.14

Information Yeah.

2Speaker 2
01:01:38.30 – 01:01:57.34

So I look at that as all tools. I think the whole point of having a head coach is so that someone can make a decision and I look at it as my. My job to take all the information from all the talented people that I work with and make a decision. And let the players, um, let me know if that was the right or wrong decision.

1Speaker 1
01:01:57.60 – 01:02:02.08

That's smart. I mean, I would, I would just be like, Fuck you dude, why'd you tell me that it didn't work?

2Speaker 2
01:02:04.00 – 01:02:43.78

And and like, it's not like, I just over. This is something that I've been thinking about, you know, if I were to be in the in, in the chair making the decisions I've been thinking about throughout my career? And it's something that you have to be very mindful of, because you have to understand that. No one wants to talk out loud and hurt the team's chances of winning a football game on game day. Everyone, all they're, they're all in, have the same thing at stake. In terms of, you know, you win more football games than you lose, you're employed, so let's win the game.

01:02:43.78 – 01:03:18.96

So no one wants to do that. And um, you know, I I find that if you just if you can just say nothing and move on, guys get pretty embarrassed, but you don't they. They still try to come to the plate. And you just don't want to engender a situation where it's like, Yeah, I wanted to say something, but I didn't know if you'd yell at me. Like. So, even when I'm frustrated, I try to do my best to, uh, understand the circumstances that they're operating in.

4Speaker 4
01:03:19.04 – 01:03:23.92

That's a very smart answer. I would coach pretty much based on vibes entirely.

2Speaker 2
01:03:24.58 – 01:03:25.12

Just vibe it, bro.

4Speaker 4
01:03:25.34 – 01:03:36.96

Yeah, just vibe it, just go out there. Like, if it's, if it's like late November, it's, you know, 23 degrees in Buffalo and you're wearing the teal uniforms. I'd be like, we're looking kind of candy ass today.

01:03:36.98 – 01:03:47.34

We're not going to be able to run the ball, we might as well just try passing forth that. Never look at the at the teal uniforms in cold weather and be like, you know what, this isn't, this isn't running the football uniforms.

2Speaker 2
01:03:47.60 – 01:04:00.84

I mean, it's generally how I base all my decisions on our inconsequential, consequential factors. Um, the I. I I think, man, you'd really get my brain turning.

1Speaker 1
01:04:01.08 – 01:04:03.80

Yeah, no, they're candy ass, they're a little candy ass.

4Speaker 4
01:04:04.36 – 01:04:15.56

I think that they're. They're great for September and October. When it's white out, or when it's hot outside, you know, the weather starts turning, you get sleet, freezing rain kind of candy. Has to be wearing those heels.

1Speaker 1
01:04:15.70 – 01:04:18.32

And Dolphins players look colder in those uniforms.

2Speaker 2
01:04:18.80 – 01:04:21.18

See, and. But I think I found the root of the problem.

1Speaker 1
01:04:21.62 – 01:04:21.94

Okay.

2Speaker 2
01:04:22.32 – 01:04:44.64

You guys have, who's your uniform distributor? I don't know who it is, but um, our actual uniforms are aqua color, not teal, so you've probably been seeing teal and been like, those are candy, really. Aqua strikes fear in the heart of every man. I mean, that's just now, we're just talking facts.

4Speaker 4
01:04:44.78 – 01:04:45.34

Yeah, okay.

1Speaker 1
01:04:45.40 – 01:04:47.54

I see candy for every color. But yeah, sure.

4Speaker 4
01:04:47.74 – 01:04:49.10

That's a valid point, though.

2Speaker 2
01:04:49.32 – 01:05:04.80

You know, you know what's cool about the I. When I got the job, this was like I'd been in six divisions, I'd never been to the AFC East. I didn't really know that much about, uh, the dolphins, relative to, you know the way.

01:05:07.04 – 01:05:34.68

Um, I kind of thought. I assumed that the fan base had to be kind of like, I don't know. Maybe like a Southern California or something where you know, there's a lot of things to do. So, you know, um, they're distracted and maybe there'll be around for when you're winning. Um, this, this. That was not the case. This fan base was just like a sleeping giant that, you know, haven't won a playoff game and now 24 years.

01:05:37.20 – 01:06:14.66

It's really the fan base and kind of like the the appreciation of history. Where, you know, I'm kind of digging the aqua now where before I was, but I kind of there's. There's so much history tied to it. Um, you know, those those Seventies teams were impactful and kind of changed the whole subculture of or of Florida, South Florida sports. This is unbeknownst to me, my how I've learned so much in one year. Guys, um, but so, you know, I think the I think the fan base and the players, they're into it.

01:06:14.90 – 01:06:19.82

So judge it until we do something about it and maybe we'll get you an awkward jersey.

4Speaker 4
01:06:19.96 – 01:06:30.58

They do the players look faster in the Aqua, that's, that's for sure. Like, do you ever? do you ever? Just go out on the practice field? And you're like, Hey, Tyreek, can you just run some routes just so I can watch how fast you are?

2Speaker 2
01:06:31.10 – 01:07:02.72

Yeah, you know, I mean, when you got it, why not, you know? Um, he, he's in the building and he's really good at running routes, very fast, and it's really fun to watch. Um, however, I don't try, I try not to make him do unnecessary stuff. Um, you know, to. I want to keep fast, fast, but he, Uh, I have to tell you in person. Aqua, white, green, red, Uh, fuchsia dude looks fast in any color.

1Speaker 1
01:07:03.00 – 01:07:29.16

Yeah, I believe that, I believe that, so I so, based on the wide receivers. I had a question about, Uh, Andrew Hawkins had a quote talking about you as a coach and how? When you came in, he was essentially like, he told us, throw out everything. You know, I'm going to teach you something different. How? How does that go when you have those first meetings? Has it been, like, hard in your career to get guys to buy in right away, knowing like, Hey, I'm going to do something totally different?

01:07:29.16 – 01:07:43.20

Like, you just have to trust me because I'm always fascinated with that with coaches where if you don't have the Super Bowl rings like Belichick. To get guys to buy into a different system than what they know has to be a little bit daunting for, like, day one.

2Speaker 2
01:07:43.88 – 01:07:57.50

Yeah, you know, um, it's a pro, you, you hit the nail on the head. That's a problem that I recognized, um, literally. My first full-time paying job in the N.FL was 2006..

01:07:57.50 – 01:08:36.68

And I was a um offensive assistant, and um, Andre Johnson was a 25 year old, uh, ascending superstar. And yet you want to add value, but how is that guy going to listen to this guy? That's something that. And so I had to figure it out, and it was pretty, pretty quick that I realized, Oh, wow. On the professional level, like these guys want to make the most money they can, they want to be the best they can.

01:08:37.98 – 01:09:23.36

Um, there's a lot of pressure on them and basically anybody that can help them do that, they'll listen to. So the objective was not to like I. It's one of my favorite parts of this job. Um, is I fully know that? um, my job is to exceed the eye test expectations when I first meet people like, I have to earn their listening. Um, and you know, when you really think about it, should you desire to be entitled to people when you know what you're talking about? It's not the worst thing in the world to have to earn their listening and earn, um, their trust.

01:09:23.44 – 01:09:54.16

So to do that, it takes, uh, an annoying amount of preparation for those first meetings, specifically because you have to, you have to forecast. Okay, I'm going to say this now. What will be the natural inclination of the listener, of the player? What are their experiences? What's going to be the resistance? How do I get in front of the rebuttal that they may voice, they may not, but how do I get in front of that?

01:09:54.58 – 01:10:33.86

Um, and basically tell a story of whatever I'm pitching to them and make sure that it's very tight. Just because I, you're exactly right. The eye test, on top of the fact that I'm approaching it differently. Um, it's not going to be a, you know, generally different makes people uncomfortable. Um, and so people want to be comfortable. And you just um. Really relying on that known fact that, hey, all players, if you can be of resource to them, don't care what it looks like. Um, relying on that, you know, allows less. You go bold that way.

1Speaker 1
01:10:33.92 – 01:10:34.20

Yeah.

4Speaker 4
01:10:34.32 – 01:10:51.14

I've got an alternate method that maybe you could try is just bring back the two earring hook that you had. You remember that there's a there's a that screenshot of you on, I think it's Channel Nine News in Denver, it says. Michael McDaniel, Broncos ball Boy, you've got the two big hoop earrings.

01:10:51.30 – 01:10:56.38

You wear those into a meeting and you get instant respect because you're like, this guy's going to steal my girl.

2Speaker 2
01:10:56.92 – 01:11:11.24

Right? Or, like, you know, does he have any financial advice? He looks responsible. Um, you know, multitude of things that are going through their heads. Um, you know, so many adults tell you, Oh, you're going to regret that.

01:11:11.34 – 01:11:20.16

And you're like, at that age, you're like, Um, and then at some point that falls out of fashion, and yes, you're kind of laughing at yourself.

4Speaker 4
01:11:20.50 – 01:11:25.90

I think it's a good look, I think you bring it back. Maybe if you win a Super Bowl, you can get away with anything if you want a Super Bowl.

2Speaker 2
01:11:25.92 – 01:11:28.64

Yeah, I could you think I could wear clogs on the sidelines?

1Speaker 1
01:11:28.80 – 01:11:36.84

Yeah, definitely, if you win the dream, you go barefoot on the sideline, um, you definitely can one with the earth.

2Speaker 2
01:11:36.94 – 01:11:37.42

I like that.

1Speaker 1
01:11:37.56 – 01:11:47.70

Yeah, I got a couple of questions. Uh, the first is we're part of two, and on we have two, two, two questions. We're part of two, and on, we're believers. Why is it?

01:11:47.74 – 01:12:04.74

Do you think that two gets criticized more than, like the average quarterback? It's it's kind of a bizarre, uh, situation. Is it? Is there anything that you can put your finger on? It's like, guys, just don't for some reason, like the the prognosticators and the analysts don't see what I'm seeing.

01:12:04.90 – 01:12:10.50

Like, what it's, it's. It is a little he gets talked about differently and more than most quarterbacks.

2Speaker 2
01:12:11.36 – 01:12:31.94

No, um, there's a couple of things going on, I think, cause I've I've wondered the same thing. In terms of the polarization of people, like, a lot of people have strong opinions. Either way, um, I think, you know, the starting point is he, he is, he is different.
