We're going to rock down to Electric Avenue and then we'll take it higher.

2Speaker 2
00:02:49.42 – 00:02:55.66

Oh, we're going to rock down to electric. It's part of my take, even about martial sports.

1Speaker 1
00:02:58.66 – 00:03:10.02

Welcome to part of my take. Today is Wednesday, September 20th. And boys, uh, there's a chance that Aaron Rodgers is having a better year than Deshaun Watson. I don't think so. Big cat.

00:03:10.06 – 00:03:10.14

H.e.

2Speaker 2
00:03:10.14 – 00:03:18.20

Got his Achilles torn? Yeah, but Sean Watson is very bad, He was so bad. Baker Mayfield is smiling. He was bad.

00:03:18.32 – 00:03:27.02

The first interception wasn't his fault. Uh, yeah, that's probably fair, that's fair, but he was so bad. Hank. And Baker Mayfield is smiling. Baker Mayfield is so happy to see this.

00:03:27.36 – 00:03:50.40

They ran him out of town in Cleveland. I've been saying ever since Baker got that raw deal that they, they didn't know what they had when they had Baker. When you're the Browns, you got to be happy sometimes with having a serviceable quarterback. And they thought that they could go ahead and break the structure of the NF.L. salary cap and give a sex predator $240 million guaranteed. Not working out so well for the Browns. So I have some stats for you.

1Speaker 1
00:03:50.40 – 00:04:19.64

Uh, Deshaun Watson, out of the 35 quarterbacks with 200 passing attempts since the start of 2022. So he played half of the year last year, played two games this year. So far. He's 33rd in yards attempt, uh, per attempt, just below Carson Wentz. He's 33rd, impassurated, just below Davis Mills, uh, 34th, and sac rate 34th, and completion percentage 30th, and success rate. By any measure, he is one of the worst quarterbacks right now.

00:04:19.84 – 00:04:30.58

I obviously he is, he's shown that he can play quarterback in the NFL, so he's, he has a resume. That if he can get back to that, it's worth the investment. But as we're sitting here, Deshaun Watson.

2Speaker 2
00:04:31.14 – 00:04:42.70

It is, it's ugly. He also might've created a burner account after the game. Did you see the screenshots of that? So, allegedly from Deshaun, I think it was called the Twitter account was like, Gainesville Raised or something like that.

00:04:43.02 – 00:04:58.10

Um, all the tweets that he had were about Deshaun Watson replying to people who were replying to tweets about the Browns game, saying Not his fault, he doesn't call the plays, not his fault. Give Deshaun time. Still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. So he, he might be out there, still standing up for himself.

00:04:58.16 – 00:05:08.04

He's the last person that believes in Deshaun Watson. Um, now I do feel for Browns fans, I feel like I like Browns fans, I really do, and it was a disastrous night.

00:05:08.18 – 00:05:20.00

I want them, I want them to be happy. They've been just a dismal franchise for a long time. Um, but Deshaun Watson, I'm, it's. It's ridiculous how poorly he's played since he's come back. And then you had, obviously.

1Speaker 1
00:05:20.00 – 00:05:44.38

The Nick Chubb injury, which was, I don't know Nick Chubb is, is probably like one of the most light guys. I feel like no one. Even if you're not a Browns fan, you love watching Nick Chubb play football. Um, and that sucked so bad because his knee, well, Schefter tried to dupe us. Schefter reported about his knee injury from 2015. And phrase it in a way where you read the first part of the tweet and you're like, Oh, they already diagnosed that he tore everything in his knee.

00:05:44.50 – 00:05:52.78

He probably already, he probably did tear everything in his knee, but Schefter was doing that for clicks. He got some good, he got some good engagement on that, like a real N.FL fan.

2Speaker 2
00:05:52.90 – 00:06:05.60

I keep, I keep shefty notifications on during the season, correct? So it popped up on my phone, I said. Nick Chubb Tours, LCL, PCL, ACL, MCL, cartilage damage, and then dot, dot, dot.

00:06:05.70 – 00:06:17.10

And then I opened it up, and it was in 2015 in a game against Tennessee and a game against Tennessee. We'll see if he can recover from this one. Um, it's never a good sign when you're running back. Hurts himself and Willis McGee, he starts trending on Twitter.

00:06:17.18 – 00:06:19.26

Yes, that's, that's, that's a a big.

1Speaker 1
00:06:19.26 – 00:06:24.34

Sign that something's wrong. It's also crazy. They didn't show the replay. Yeah, so that's insane.

00:06:24.44 – 00:06:28.98

They showed us tomorrow Hamlin dying on a field. So when it happened, uh, Joe Buck was.

2Speaker 2
00:06:28.98 – 00:06:44.82

Like, and I'm being told that we're not going to show the replay. It's that bad as Joe Buck saying that. You hear the crowd reaction in Pittsburgh, to them seeing the replay live, and to me, that was almost worse than watching the replay. Cause you hear that. And it's a bunch of Pittsburgh fans who want Nick Chubb out of the game.

00:06:44.88 – 00:06:58.88

They don't want him injured, but they obviously don't want to see him scoring touchdowns against them. And the entire crowd in Pittsburgh is just like, Oh, dear God, what did I just see? So what, what do we have to do? We're basically entrapped into going online and looking for the replay, and it was gnarly.

00:06:59.00 – 00:07:00.52

It was gnarly, but I don't understand.

1Speaker 1
00:07:00.52 – 00:07:13.98

What, when did they start doing that? when did they say that's ridiculous? Your? Your job is to telecast the game. You can maybe put a warning before it, but like, I, it's not like. I was like, Oh, I want to see how bad is, but like, you watch the game, well, I kind of did.

00:07:14.08 – 00:07:15.10

Cause it was crazy.

2Speaker 2
00:07:15.10 – 00:07:22.80

To see when Joe Buck says, it's so bad, we're not going to show it to you. That's like your parents being like, No, you're not allowed to watch this movie. It's got tits in it and then I'm like.

1Speaker 1
00:07:22.86 – 00:07:26.54

Wow, Braveheart's awesome. Yeah, we can't wait till I go to my friend's house. I'm going to watch Braveheart.

00:07:26.64 – 00:07:36.56

Yeah, it was show the show, the injury show. Once your job is to telecast the game, it's a pretty important thing that happened in the game because the Browns were moving the ball.

00:07:36.64 – 00:07:47.94

Nick Chubb had like 60 yards in a quarter and a half. So, uh, but yeah, that was about as bad as you could get for a Monday night football game for the Browns. If you're a Steelers fan, you're happy.

2Speaker 2
00:07:47.94 – 00:07:57.54

That you got the win, you're happy for TJ for breaking the sack record, getting that touchdown. That was awesome. Hank, that probably brought up some bad memories for you. A lot of tweets.

00:07:57.64 – 00:08:10.34

It was so funny when Hank did that the first time, the best, and Nick was like, Wait, it says here Derek Watt, and then all the blood drains out of our poor Hank's face. Um, but you're probably happy if you're a Steelers fan. You got T.J. broke the record, you got to win.

00:08:10.42 – 00:08:19.62

You beat a division rival, the streak stays intact 21 straight. They haven't lost on in Monday night football since 1991. At home, at home, at home.

00:08:19.86 – 00:08:28.18

That's wild 21 straight home Monday night football crazy streak. But you're also like, I fucking hate our offense coordinator. And I hope that he falls into a river on the way home.

00:08:28.18 – 00:08:38.80

Because they were so the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the start of the fourth quarter, they were losing 22 to 19. They gained negative seven total yards in the in the fourth.

1Speaker 1
00:08:38.80 – 00:08:51.66

Quarter and they won the game 26 to 22. It was it was basically like you were watching the game, being like. The Steelers should punt on first down, cause the best chance they have of scoring is to get Deshaun Watson to fumble again. Yeah.

00:08:51.66 – 00:09:08.70

That was how it felt. They're all. Their defensive line was absolutely eating, they were everywhere. But that their offense and that third and one call, I don't know what. Maybe it was, you know, a broken play, but Kenny on a keeper, on third and one, I think, out of the shotgun. And there were.

2Speaker 2
00:09:08.80 – 00:09:19.84

Yeah, maybe the worst play call ever was misdirection, and then it ended up having like three defensive linemen in the backfield at the same time. Smashing him made no sense. They didn't run a play inside the Browns 30 yard line, yeah.

00:09:19.84 – 00:09:20.80

That's pretty bad.

1Speaker 1
00:09:20.90 – 00:09:31.16

So Browns fans, at least you have. Week one, week one, week one was a was a great win to beat the Bengals. You killed them, you smash them. All the hopes.

00:09:31.36 – 00:09:40.06

And then it just week two, it feels like I. Their season obviously isn't over, but that losing Nick Chubb, it's, it's.

2Speaker 2
00:09:40.06 – 00:09:49.66

Devastating, it's as bad as it gets. And yes, you did get hosed on a pass interference on the final play of the game, but the ball was a shitty pass from Deshaun. He wasn't going to catch it, it was.

1Speaker 1
00:09:49.76 – 00:09:57.92

If it was close, they would have called it. Yeah. We also had the Saints and the Panthers playing Monday night football, it actually was so two, two Monday night football games.

2Speaker 2
00:09:57.92 – 00:10:09.52

Where I got one more thing about the Steelers, Okay, did you notice they did double renegade? they? I did not? They did double renegade, which they rarely do at Steelers Games. It's like once a season, they'll break out a double renegade.

00:10:09.76 – 00:10:18.80

They brought it out and I think it was the next play, it might've been the second play. After double renegade was played, T.J. Watt got the scoop and score for the touchdown.

00:10:18.92 – 00:10:22.30

Yeah, double renegade, it's legit, Renegade works. They did that.

00:10:22.32 – 00:10:22.68

When I.

1Speaker 1
00:10:22.68 – 00:10:31.22

Went to the Monday Night football game last year, two years ago Steelers Bears and they did renegade, and it was immediate fumble for the Bears. Yeah, it's magic, it's it's how they keep their streak intact, yeah.

00:10:31.40 – 00:10:39.06

But yeah, it does feel like the Steelers are going to just be a perfect Mike Tomlin team. That they won't go under 500, but probably also won't make the playoffs, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:10:39.14 – 00:10:45.06

And if I'm a Steelers fan, I just I. I wake up wondering, What has Matt Canada done to stick?

1Speaker 1
00:10:45.06 – 00:10:50.82

Around Matt, Canada sucked, when he was at Wisconsin, he sucked forever. Yeah, he's been bad everywhere.

00:10:50.82 – 00:10:56.08

He's gone and for some reason, he keeps getting jobs. It's probably super nice. Yeah, yeah.

00:10:56.08 – 00:10:59.60

He probably is super nice. Sorry, sorry, sorry about that third downplay.

00:11:00.08 – 00:11:01.28

So, yeah, the other.

2Speaker 2
00:11:01.28 – 00:11:13.16

Game from Canada, No, probably in this example, he is he. probably they probably gave him the nickname Matt Canada because he was weak and inefficient, but super nice the other game.

1Speaker 1
00:11:13.28 – 00:11:17.90

So it was the double header, it was kind of crazy, cause it was like two games. Oh, this is going to be awesome.

00:11:17.96 – 00:11:33.96

Two Monday night football games, when both games just kind of sucked in their own special ways. I I do actually think that. On a double header. Kenny Pickett, Deshaun Watson, Bryce Young, Derek Carr. I think Taysom Hill was the best quarterback. Taysom Hill looked pretty good, he looks really good.

00:11:34.26 – 00:11:46.30

And yeah, the the Panthers I there, we said it was Steve Smith. They're just. It's not a Bryce young thing. It's like there's no one who's getting separation. Adam Thielen is trying to make moves and and they have no, he has no time.

00:11:46.44 – 00:11:48.86

And I can't really judge what I'm seeing, because.

2Speaker 2
00:11:48.86 – 00:12:04.64

It's not, it's not easy for him. The one thing I didn't like about Bryce is he doesn't realize yet that. Defensive players are fast, so he tries to scramble out of pockets a lot and use his legs to just buy some time. Keep looking downfield and he was just getting hit left and right. Deshaun does that too.

00:12:04.82 – 00:12:11.04

He can just run away and just gets killed, you get hit from behind, you're like, How'd that guy catch up to me? That didn't happen in Alabama, yeah.

00:12:11.10 – 00:12:12.22

But the Saints, the.

1Speaker 1
00:12:12.68 – 00:12:22.78

Panthers I mean, that was a very boring game. Derek Carr had a terrible interception. Yes, he did. It was actually electric, I bet every quarterback to throw an interception.

00:12:22.90 – 00:12:26.50

Bryce Young was the only one who didn't. Oh, really, yeah, everyone else threw an interception.

2Speaker 2
00:12:26.60 – 00:12:35.78

Yeah, there was. There was one point where it was like four turnovers. Both games had double turnovers going on within probably like a five minute span. It was like, Why am I watching?

1Speaker 1
00:12:35.78 – 00:12:40.50

This, oh yeah, cause it's football, it's football and we watch it. And they Andy Dalton got to come in for a sneak.

00:12:40.56 – 00:12:47.40

That was kind of exciting. Andy Dalton and Josh McCown standing next to each other. All hair team. Yeah, that was, that was a big moment.

00:12:47.70 – 00:13:04.72

But yeah, that that that game, I guess it's better that, uh, there was a double header, although I still. And this is for people who have more than one TV, uh, the ESPN or, sorry, one game was on ESPN, one game was on ABC or ESPN, too, they ABC and ESPN.

00:13:04.84 – 00:13:11.18

Okay, so the George Pickens touchdown, we found out about it before it happened because it they changed the score bug on.

2Speaker 2
00:13:11.18 – 00:13:18.86

The ESPN Panther Saints game was that an app thing? Were you watching? I don't know, but it was. I was watching the game on on the app too. So it might be like live TV.

1Speaker 1
00:13:19.34 – 00:13:28.90

Duking it out, it was crazy, it was. It was not like significant timing, but it was the score changed. I looked down, George Pickens caught the ball. I was like, Well, this is going to the house.

00:13:28.98 – 00:13:32.42

Yeah, and George Pickens is such a psycho, I love him, I do.

2Speaker 2
00:13:32.42 – 00:13:35.94

Think he's the perfect amount of insane when he tried to jump, when he tried to hurdle someone.

1Speaker 1
00:13:35.94 – 00:13:39.70

For note, like the guy was standing upright and he was like, I'm just going to jump into you.

2Speaker 2
00:13:39.72 – 00:13:51.32

And actually kind of work. Because the guy was like, what was that? It was the guy like, tried to catch him. Because it was like a dance move, it was like flash dance. Yeah, so yeah, I'll catch you on, I'll spin you around, George.

00:13:51.52 – 00:13:57.26

He didn't try and jump, he didn't try and hurdle right like he didn't, he didn't lose his balance, he just jumped up in the air.

00:13:57.38 – 00:14:02.22

You know what he, he gets the Zoomies, he gets the Zoomies. you need to get him the ball, cause he's.

1Speaker 1
00:14:02.22 – 00:14:11.30

He's gonna, he's gonna freak if he doesn't get the ball. Yeah, and I the Steelers also. I. Their office just looks so slow. Najee Harris I don't know why he got so slow.

2Speaker 2
00:14:11.60 – 00:14:15.64

I don't know. It's painful to watch how slow he is. Was he always this slow? No.

1Speaker 1
00:14:15.66 – 00:14:21.00

He was not that slow at Alabama, he wasn't like a burner, but he wasn't that slow I feel like.

2Speaker 2
00:14:21.00 – 00:14:41.68

In the N.FL, even as his rookie year, his great plays were jumping over people, which he loves to do. Um, and then, like, running into somebody and bowling them over for like, three yards, but he puts the guy on a poster, Um, but I don't. I don't think he was ever super fast in the NFL, but he looks slower somehow. And he's getting caught, he's not able to break it to the if he bounces it to the outside, he's getting tackled, right.

00:14:41.86 – 00:14:53.82

And he had one play, though, there was one play where he got stopped in the backfield and then ran around the edge. Kenny pick it through an awesome block, just really laid his shoulder into the guy. Um, but besides that, it's, yeah, it's painful to watch the Steelers offense.

00:14:53.82 – 00:14:59.32

And another thing, if I'm a Steelers fan, we got to do something about Mike Tomlin's challenge situation. Oh.

1Speaker 1
00:14:59.32 – 00:15:03.76

It's so bad, but I think it's so funny how bad it is. It's very, very funny. It feels like a bit.

2Speaker 2
00:15:03.76 – 00:15:14.04

At this point, because they'll show the replay. When he did win one, though, no, I don't think that was an actual challenge. They didn't, they didn't challenge. I think he tried to challenge it, but it was already overturned, so he should get credit.

00:15:14.06 – 00:15:29.56

He would have gotten that one credit. But the play was at the Mari Cooper catch and he threw the flag after they just showed the replay. And and Troy was like, That's just a great catch by Mari Cooper. And you saw the two feet down. Mike Tomlin is not watching the same game. Whoever does, he have a challenge, guy.

00:15:29.66 – 00:15:39.62

Or I think his challenge guy is his players and his players, a defensive back, will always run up to you. Like, that guy didn't catch it, there's no way that guy got to catch on me. I like how he challenges.

1Speaker 1
00:15:39.62 – 00:15:46.54

Though, because he challenges how any of us would challenge, it's just pure frustration. So it's not like it's a 50 50 call. We got to go look at it.

00:15:46.60 – 00:15:52.62

It's fuck, how'd we give up that long third down? This is a legal challenge. Yeah, I wish that's exactly how I would challenge the.

2Speaker 2
00:15:52.62 – 00:16:01.72

He does. I wish that play didn't happen. Can we? Can we just review? There's a there's a mechanism in the NFL where you can eliminate a play. I don't care about what the rules are behind it.

00:16:01.76 – 00:16:05.68

I'm just going to throw the flag that makes the play go back. He's constantly doing like basketball.

1Speaker 1
00:16:05.84 – 00:16:09.92

Just check ball, check ball up top. Yeah, let's reset this. It's it's so bad.

00:16:10.00 – 00:16:10.48

It's not fair.

2Speaker 2
00:16:10.82 – 00:16:21.06

We've talked about it on the show, but there should be like, NFL coaches aren't great at watching football, they don't watch enough, they watch film, but they don't watch football on TV from the angles that we watch, right?

00:16:21.38 – 00:16:36.64

We're better at knowing when you should throw the challenge flag than NFL coaches are, right? If there's somebody out there that just spends all day Sunday, all night Monday, all night Thursday, all day Saturday watching football, you are better at knowing when to challenge a call is than an actual NFL head coach.

1Speaker 1
00:16:36.76 – 00:16:43.24

Malcolm Gladwell 10,000 hours. I've watched more football than an NFL head coach. We're experts. It's not like a brag, you don't think so, Hank?

00:16:43.76 – 00:16:51.30

No, but we're talking about football, the actual game. Yeah, we've watched so much more, right? And that's, and that's when you're making the decision.

00:16:51.36 – 00:17:05.30

It's not again, like PFT said, it's not film. Like, How do I beat this defense? Obviously, coaches are way better than that at us, but we're talking about actual game footage. Yeah, like the NBC at Angle Where?

2Speaker 2
00:17:05.30 – 00:17:09.08

They zoom in, real tight, coaches don't know what that is, no idea, they don't even know the yellow line.

00:17:09.14 – 00:17:12.80

They don't know the Green Zone, they don't know the Pylon Cam, I don't know the Sky Cam.

00:17:15.24 – 00:17:15.64

I.

1Speaker 1
00:17:15.64 – 00:17:26.00

Was like, Look, I was like, dude, not official, to be fair to Jerry. They'd never say that on podcasts they used to when they. When they first unveiled, well, they don't say it as much anymore, they first unveiled it.

00:17:26.06 – 00:17:31.16

They said it all the time, Yeah, yeah, it was. It was like, Man, you just send a reminder to everyone. Yellow line, not official.

00:17:31.34 – 00:17:32.08

I think anybody.

2Speaker 2
00:17:32.08 – 00:17:36.26

That watches football knows that the yellow line is not official, but it gets confusing.

1Speaker 1
00:17:36.36 – 00:17:42.94

Sometimes you watch too much football, all right. Rich eyes and Twitter bio. What the yellow lines on official? He is? That's a good one.

00:17:42.94 – 00:17:45.02

Rich That's a fucking good one, that's.

2Speaker 2
00:17:46.14 – 00:17:54.86

Uh, all right, let's talk, what? No, I was going to make a joke, but I'm not going to say the joke. You might as well say it now. No, you guys, somebody will know what the joke was.

00:17:56.04 – 00:18:04.64

Okay, it was going to be a cheap shot at Hank and his quarterback. Oh, go ahead, just do it. When Mack Jones is driving on the roads, the yellow line's not official there either.

00:18:05.06 – 00:18:05.24

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:18:05.52 – 00:18:08.20

Had a couple of cocktails. He needs a lighthouse to find a way to get home.

2Speaker 2
00:18:08.20 – 00:18:22.40

Um, speaking of the lighthouse. uh, lighthouse talk, hank I, Uh, I. I reached out someone, someone invited us to the lighthouse. Yeah, we should go, I'll burn it down.

00:18:22.48 – 00:18:30.62

I got multiple invites. Can we podcast like the Ramsey Yusef fucking Lighthouse? Listen, we'll stop talking.

1Speaker 1
00:18:30.62 – 00:18:34.28

About the lighthouse When Hank stops bringing it up every show, I don't bring it up shout.

2Speaker 2
00:18:34.28 – 00:18:43.74

To Alexandra for inviting us, Hank, since you brought it up, I do have a lighthouse. I did bring it up. I reached out to the United States Coast Guard Commander.

00:18:44.06 – 00:18:49.42

You already did this. Well, I heard back from the Coast Guard active. yes, is he active? What do you mean active?

00:18:49.58 – 00:19:08.16

Are you looking at this guy's credentials? Well, some of these retired guys just, you know, start spouting off conspiracies just to get in the media. Hank. He is a commander, current current Commander, Commander, Matt Kroll, Director, U.S. Coast Guard Motion Picture and Television Liaison Office. Okay, so this is fake.

00:19:08.16 – 00:19:11.90

Yep, love this. He's a commander, commander, respect the commanders.

00:19:12.02 – 00:19:18.30

They're two and a commander part. Um, my name is Commander of television. Can I finish it? Sounds like you don't want to hear the facts?

1Speaker 1
00:19:18.64 – 00:19:22.16

Sounds like all you want to do is talk about the lighthouse. My name is PFT commenter and I do the.

2Speaker 2
00:19:22.16 – 00:19:50.94

Part of my Take Sports podcast for Barstool Sports. I'm writing to you concerning a matter of public debate surrounding lighthouses, which I understand fall under the purview of the United States Course Coast Guard. Recently, a dispute has emerged regarding the legitimacy of the new 208 foot tall quote lighthouse that was constructed at Gillette Stadium. It was built to replace the old lighthouse, which was rendered obsolete due to being completely blocked out by the stadium's new Jumbotron. On one side of the debate are Patriots fans, who claim that this is the tallest lighthouse in the United States.

00:19:51.24 – 00:20:33.08

Hank. The team has made numerous public statements to that regard, and many supporters of the organization believe it to be true. On the other side of the debate are those who recognize the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse as being the tallest U.S. lighthouse, and if the Gillette Stadium Lighthouse qualifies as being the tallest. We must then acknowledge that Lady Liberty herself, which actually functioned at one time as a lighthouse, would be the rightful holder of the title. As she stands nearly a hundred feet taller than the Gillette Stadium structure and is on water. I wanted to ask for the Coast guards official opinion on the matter, given the public discourse surrounding the claims. Publications of note, such as the Sports Business Journal, have taken to regurgitating the Gillette Stadium press releases and backing their claims. As you can imagine, this has led to a lot of confusion.

00:20:34.00 – 00:20:47.14

Commander Crow writes back Good morning, thank you for reaching out. I attached our Lighthouse fact sheet that should help answer some of your questions. It clearly lists Cape Hatteras as the tallest, which refers to the total length of the structure itself.

00:20:47.68 – 00:21:11.34

This is why the Statue of Liberty, at 151 feet, without her pedestal, would not be considered the tallest. Cape, Mendocino, is actually the highest above sea level at 515. I hope your listeners enjoy these Lighthouse facts and please let me know if you have any additional questions. Per the United States Coast Guard, the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the official tallest lighthouse in the United States. Not your fucked up, fugazi piece of bullshit.

00:21:11.54 – 00:21:25.62

I don't know when do they update those records. Maybe it's like today because the guy wrote me back, No, but like, maybe it's like, that's, you know, like old, like old madden games apply and say, Are these updated as of today? I asked him the question on Saturday.

00:21:25.94 – 00:21:26.10

He wrote.

1Speaker 1
00:21:26.10 – 00:21:30.10

Me back yesterday. But it is a very new lighthouse. Yeah, but those are just general guidelines.

2Speaker 2
00:21:30.88 – 00:21:34.94

No, he says, What's? what's? Did you open the attachment? I did open the attachment that.

1Speaker 1
00:21:34.94 – 00:21:42.52

Seems like a sheet that maybe needs to be updated. Yeah, it's like a madden game. You don't have to wait until the next year for an updated roster. You got to reply and we got to.

2Speaker 2
00:21:42.52 – 00:21:48.42

Update the people on Friday. Tallest Lighthouse, Cape, Hatteras, North Carolina. That's a fact.

1Speaker 1
00:21:48.42 – 00:21:55.52

Just reply and be like, Is this current as of today? September 20th? On Friday, we'll let.

2Speaker 2
00:21:55.52 – 00:22:08.62

Everyone know when we do our lighthouse segment. I just thought that was interesting that the Coast Guard itself says that you're one guy from the director of television, the command, he's a commander, commander. Show some fucking respect.

00:22:08.82 – 00:22:12.64

So your lighthouse is stolen valor? No, it's not, it is. no, it's not.

00:22:13.00 – 00:22:15.54

You're claiming that it's a lighthouse when, in fact, and you're also claiming.

1Speaker 1
00:22:15.54 – 00:22:19.34

It's the tallest lighthouse, it is the tallest, all right. Well, we'll find out, we'll find out.

2Speaker 2
00:22:19.34 – 00:22:28.44

When we do the followup, I'm happy we had this. I'm going to make some calls. No, not that now that I know who you're going to call, you got a lighthouse guy.

00:22:28.50 – 00:22:29.64

Okay, are they commanders?

1Speaker 1
00:22:30.30 – 00:22:35.04

Yeah, you bring your facts in PFT, we'll have a fact off. Yeah, okay.

00:22:35.16 – 00:22:35.52

Is there anything higher?

2Speaker 2
00:22:35.52 – 00:22:42.22

Than Commander General, I don't know Chief of staff, I don't know Commander General.

00:22:42.26 – 00:22:42.40

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:22:42.40 – 00:22:52.78

I think the Coast Guard has generals do that. I don't know. Okay, well, either way, let's, uh, let's talk some college football before we get to some college football.

00:22:52.78 – 00:23:09.02

00:23:31.80 – 00:23:37.96

Let's start with the only way you can start. Alabama's washed Alabama is so.

2Speaker 2
00:23:37.96 – 00:23:43.44

Done. Nick Saban is so bad at coaching football, big cat. he is one of the worst football coaches.

1Speaker 1
00:23:43.44 – 00:23:55.78

In college, did you see the video of Nick Saban coming? Cause they had, so they played USF. Uh, there was a weather delay and they were coming into the locker room, it was just pouring on them and they were coming to the locker room.

00:23:55.82 – 00:24:11.20

And there was, like a maybe a three second video of Nick Saban walking the locker room, wet, tired, sad. And that was the first time where I was like, Oh, Nick Saban. Like, their thoughts might creep in, like, why the fuck am I doing this right now?

2Speaker 2
00:24:11.28 – 00:24:19.12

Yeah, it doesn't make a lot of sense unless. Nick Saban is a type of a hyper competitive coach where he wants to put together a solid season without having a good quarterback at all.

1Speaker 1
00:24:19.18 – 00:24:37.84

Yeah, so Jalen Mill rose back to being the starter. Uh, it does feel different than the past times that Alabama has, quote unquote, been down. Because, even like, when you look at, I think last time they were outside of the top 10 was maybe 2015 and I believe they won a national title that year.

00:24:37.98 – 00:24:46.24

So like, like, every time you look for Alabama Stat, that's like, Ooh, Alabama trending down, it's like, Well, then they won a national title within a year of that.

2Speaker 2
00:24:46.56 – 00:25:07.88

Yeah, it doesn't look good, though, like, I don't. I don't see a way that they climb out into contention in the SEC. With the current roster that they have, with this current program that they have in place right now. He'll probably get like a beast of a quarterback next year. They'll be fine because I. It's not like Nick Saban stopped recruiting elite defensive players and elite skill position and offensive lineman.

00:25:07.94 – 00:25:10.12

They're probably actually one piece away.

1Speaker 1
00:25:10.32 – 00:25:37.76

And they also the craziest part is, it's, I think, that we're so used to Alabama, obviously being so dominant. It's not that they. They have quarterbacks that are, if you look at them, they're all top recruits and they're guys that were heralded coming out of high school. It just hasn't translated. So Jalen Mill rose back to being the starter. I actually think that's the right move, because at least with Jalen Mill Row, even though the throwing is not really there, you can at least make explosive plays running.

00:25:37.96 – 00:25:39.62

The question just occurred to me, big cat.

2Speaker 2
00:25:39.90 – 00:25:45.32

Um, did we? Texas has back herself the same way that we Texas has backed herself back in, like.

1Speaker 1
00:25:45.32 – 00:25:55.22

2017 When they beat, when they beat down, yeah, they beat it down well. Texas struggled with Wyoming. Yeah, I know, I mean, they ended up winning by like 28, but the fourth quarter.

2Speaker 2
00:25:55.34 – 00:26:14.54

I think we might've backed ourselves into a corner on that because everyone thought that. This was like a huge win against an elite program that's going to dominate this year. Maybe not win a national championship, but at least be, you know, relatively Alabama like. And they win a big game, prime time, everybody's watching it and then they go, they struggle the next week.

00:26:14.90 – 00:26:18.64

Now I'm starting to doubt my entire Texas is going to make the college football.

1Speaker 1
00:26:18.64 – 00:26:32.28

Playoff take Well, it feels like this college football season, I hope I'm right, because these are the best college football seasons. No one's really that good. Because you had also Georgia struggling with South Carolina in the first half, I think Georgia is still very, very good.

00:26:32.44 – 00:26:55.70

Don't get me wrong, but because their schedule is so weak, we're going to be able to say who have they played all year long? Uh, you know, Michigan has not played a team yet, they've, they've just been rolling through people. You saw, uh, Oregon struggle at Texas Tech, Washington actually has been dominant. But like, maybe everyone is, there's a lot of really good teams, but no superpower team, which I love.

00:26:55.96 – 00:26:57.12

That's the best college football.

2Speaker 2
00:26:57.12 – 00:27:08.72

I love it, it's going to be chaos down the stretch, I can't wait for it. Um, I think that I think Alabama is going to be good, but I am concerned about the fact that Texas may have beaten a fraudulent Alabama team. We'll find out this weekend.

00:27:08.72 – 00:27:25.60

We're going to find out this weekend schedule is so awesome, but before we get to this weekend, there is a very important update that we have to give. On Iowa's quest for 25 points per game, I bet the team total over on Iowa. Thinking in the back of my head, he's got a chance to rack up some points this week.

00:27:25.60 – 00:27:41.62

After starting 20 points 24 points, they were only averaging 22 going into this weekend. Um, and then Brian Ferencz keeps his offense on the field. They go for it on fourth down to try to. It. Also covered the spread, but also just gave them meaningless points.

00:27:41.68 – 00:27:44.96

It was 41 to 10, as opposed to being 34 to 10.

00:27:45.12 – 00:27:50.58

So they cover the spread and they hit the team total over, bringing their average up to a whopping.

1Speaker 1
00:27:50.58 – 00:27:51.16

28.

00:27:51.16 – 00:28:04.98

3 points per game. Good right now. He's got to go to Happy Valley this weekend, but he's sitting good as it stands right now. Yeah, there. I mean, it is so funny that, and I've seen some Iowa fans being like, So let's stop talking about it. It's like, you put it in his contract.

00:28:05.04 – 00:28:05.76

It's a wild.

2Speaker 2
00:28:05.82 – 00:28:14.68

It's like saying, when the Cardinals put in Kyler Murray's contract, Hey, you have to watch actual film and not play video games all the time. We're going to talk about it because it's there, it's.

1Speaker 1
00:28:14.68 – 00:28:27.26

Also a fun storyline to keep track of. Yes, it is, um, all right. So the other big story, obviously is, uh, Colorado and we. We saw an electric atmosphere. 9.3 million people watched.

00:28:27.26 – 00:28:45.12

On Saturday night late kickoff, Colorado, Colorado State was such a fun game to watch, it was like a game. And then also a sideshow of who can we interview on the sidelines? And just, you know, the late hits. The Travis Hunter who hurt or injured Morgan, and Morgan hurt or injured lacerated liver, yeah.

00:28:45.22 – 00:28:49.20

I think that's, I think that's not injured, I'm going to say it's hurt.

2Speaker 2
00:28:49.20 – 00:29:03.06

I basically played from 26 until I was 35. With the equivalent of a lacerated liver, I showed up to work every day, did this podcast. It's not that big of the liver reheals itself. It's amazing.

1Speaker 1
00:29:03.18 – 00:29:14.98

Basically, Travis Hunter's hungover, yeah. And so thank you to Morgan and Morgan, our wonderful sponsor. Hurt or injured he had, he did a twitch stream where he was dressed up as a kangaroo cheetah.

00:29:15.20 – 00:29:23.68

I don't know what he was dressed, he's wearing pajamas, giraffe pajamas, giraffe pajamas. He had some look like some anime pillows. in the background, He had a PlayStation controller pillow.

00:29:24.18 – 00:29:37.54

Uh, and he was like, I would have kept it. It's so funny because he's like one of the best athletes and he's, it's, it's kind of cool, he's. I feel like he's going to get big time sponsorships just by being whenever an athlete is also a nerd. Yeah, and it was like, What's this?

00:29:37.66 – 00:29:46.36

He's got a race car bed, yeah, but uh, he. He said. He would have kept playing if it weren't for the doctors, so thankfully the doctors were like, Hey dude, you have an internal injury, that.

2Speaker 2
00:29:46.36 – 00:29:53.26

Is very bad. Yeah, that was a dirty ass hit that he took to on the sidelines, so he had like three or four steps to prepare himself. Uh, the safety did.

00:29:53.26 – 00:30:13.62

That was coming in three or four steps to pull up and then just laid into him. It was, uh, it was. It was bad and I feel bad for Travis Hunter. Obviously. Um, that's a tough injury, especially when your coach after you lacerate your liver, your coach is like, Yeah, he should be back in three to four weeks. I'd be like, let's just give it, let's give it a couple of days to see how it's doing before we say that.

00:30:13.62 – 00:30:23.38

I feel bad for him, that he's going to have to sit out, that he he's dealing with that injury. But I also feel bad for us as college football fans and we don't get to walk. Yes, and I also feel bad for the kid who.

1Speaker 1
00:30:23.38 – 00:30:46.10

Obviously was a late hit, dirty hit, but it was kind of ridiculous. Like, I guess, uh, by the time the game ended, uh. His phone number, his address, his parents phone number, his parents address had been leaked on the internet. People were going pretty crazy at him. Deon did a good job today of, like, you know, dampering that down by just being like, What, what is everyone doing? It's a we've made our piece.

00:30:46.24 – 00:31:03.92

It was a dirty hit, but we can't like this is crazy. I also there were some people who were saying that he should be kicked out of the NCAA. I actually thought, Uh, surge, your Germa JST. Jackson had the best take on it. He said, Uh, you're all. you're all doing too much now, bro. Terrible play.

00:31:04.10 – 00:31:16.78

He should have been ejaculated as soon as I seen that hit, I would have ejaculated him. But to say he needs to be banned from competing in college football ever again is crazy. Dog, you're all acting soft as fuck. I like that take a lot.

2Speaker 2
00:31:16.78 – 00:31:30.62

Because it takes it, takes all the like, all the aggression out of him. He's probably not going to do a dirty late hit, like if somebody was on the sidelines, assigned to jack off, Vonta is perfect. Yeah, uh, in the middle of a game, he Antonio Brown would probably still be on the Steelers.

1Speaker 1
00:31:30.74 – 00:31:35.42

It also would have been embarrassing for him. You'd have to come in front of everyone. Yeah, yeah, it's a classic mix up.

00:31:35.42 – 00:31:41.16

Yeah, words sound similar, yeah, but yeah, the uh, Colorado. So I have a question for you guys.

00:31:41.30 – 00:31:55.80

And I don't. Obviously we are in a different position because we know Dion personally. Why? Why? is Dion getting so much hate? I don't get it? I don't. Is he getting hate? I think people are rooting for Colorado to lose very badly.

00:31:56.38 – 00:31:58.64

And I think they will lose against Oregon.

2Speaker 2
00:31:58.82 – 00:32:02.52

I don't, I don't feel like people are rooting for them to win like the most bet team, No.

1Speaker 1
00:32:02.52 – 00:32:16.34

I know the bets I'm saying, though, people, it feels like a lot of people want Colorado like you had. Like Danny Connell, which was very funny. Cause Danny Connell went after Dion, and then someone pointed out that the last past Danny Connell through as a starter was a pick six to Dion.

00:32:16.46 – 00:32:36.88

And they're like, maybe this is why there's just maybe I'm way off. But it is a very fun story. I you love in sports, when someone talks to talk and then backs it up. I do think they'll probably lose to Oregon, but it's fucking, it's, it's the college football. I think maybe people are just fatigued with talking about Colorado, I don't know.

00:32:37.00 – 00:32:45.78

I don't, I don't think people are weighing. They had the rock. I don't know, I. I know that's so sick, but they whenever someone gets big, the haters come out, I don't, I don't think they're downfall.

2Speaker 2
00:32:45.84 – 00:33:02.64

I don't think they're out yet. I think it's still a fun story that most people are rooting for. I think if they lose Oregon. When the uh, when the visor, and uh, or the guy that wears a visor. Norvell when he was like, Yeah, I take off my glasses, my hat. When I talk to adults, that's what my mom taught me. Everybody was like, This guy fucked up.

00:33:02.84 – 00:33:15.24

Yeah, I think people are rooting for Colorado to win, cause it's a fun story. And especially like, you can't, you can talk about Dion. But also his players are pretty good, like his son is legitimately one of the best quarterbacks in Division One football.

00:33:15.48 – 00:33:24.44

And he's had, what is this? His No. It's his second, his second come from behind win in the fourth quarter, 98 yard drive. He's legitimately awesome.

00:33:24.58 – 00:33:32.78

He's fun to watch, he seems like a nice guy. Dion, I think, for the most part, has been likable Dion. He hasn't crossed that line where it's like, okay.

00:33:32.80 – 00:33:44.58

Dion is now like being over cocky, making it too much about himself. That will probably happen at some point if they beat Oregon, if they continue to win, then you'll get people rooting against them. But I feel like for the most part, it's 90%.

1Speaker 1
00:33:44.92 – 00:33:52.38

Of love for Colorado Yeah, I think there's a lot of love. I just, I guess I'm more just expecting what's going to happen. Like, Ha, they're frauds.

00:33:52.40 – 00:33:59.16

Like, No, they're playing a really good Oregon team in Austin Stadium. It's going to be a very difficult game if Dion was the coach of Florida.

2Speaker 2
00:33:59.16 – 00:34:15.66

State. And he was having a lot of success right off the bat. I think people would be like, I'm sick of Dion, I hope somebody beats him. But the fact that it's Colorado that has been so bad for so long. And they just, I just saw today. They sold out the rest of their season in Boulder, and it's the first time that's ever happened.

1Speaker 1
00:34:16.10 – 00:34:25.02

And they probably did that before they realized that the USC game is going to be 10 a.m. local time. Oh, that stinks. That's tough for college kids. Yeah, they want to get the big noon kickoff.

00:34:25.42 – 00:34:32.02

So 10 a.m. USC, we'll be playing game clock 9 a.m. Yeah, uh, we gotta, we gotta think this, okay.

2Speaker 2
00:34:32.14 – 00:34:45.66

Danny was, That's a given. That's like the free space in the center where you're playing bingo. Like, who? What other college football pundit or media member will be the first to turn on? Dion? Oh, I think it might be urban, ooh.

00:34:46.10 – 00:34:59.28

I feel like that's a coach to coach thing that's never did the commercials. He did it with. Nick Saban. Yeah, well, not the same guy, not the same guy.

1Speaker 1
00:34:59.70 – 00:35:16.60

Uh, but yeah, I'm Colorado is an awesome, awesome story to watch. It's really, it's really all like, sometimes it's fun. I think, what it? what I'm thinking about it is. It's similar to, like Conor McGregor, when Conor McGregor would talk his shit and then backed it up over and over. People loved it.

00:35:16.72 – 00:35:28.14

And then when he loses, it's like the Avalanche comes, yeah, so it's maybe like, I'm anticipating the Avalanche. But no matter what, already, Colorado season is a success. They won.

2Speaker 2
00:35:28.14 – 00:35:33.22

One game last year. Yeah, I think it's going to be Stanford Steve. I think Stanford Steve will be the first to turn on Dion, Yeah.

00:35:33.26 – 00:35:35.98

That piece of shit, we need to get him back on the show.

1Speaker 1
00:35:36.32 – 00:35:43.32

Yeah, we do got to get it back on the show. Um, all right. Other college football stories. Penn State looks good, Max, you ready for Iowa?

00:35:44.14 – 00:35:49.74

Uh, yeah, I think we're going to smoke Iowa, ooh, and Ohio State. Notre Dame is going to be awesome on Saturday, so many good games.

2Speaker 2
00:35:49.98 – 00:35:53.62

So many good games I'm trying to. I have to fly on Saturday at some point and there's no.

1Speaker 1
00:35:53.62 – 00:36:10.24

Good time to fly, Yeah, do. We also had my my favorite quote of the week was from UTSA, Uh, head coach Jeff Trailer. Um, after they lost, I believe it was Friday night, he said. Uh, frustrating, man. There's gotta be an easier way to make a living somewhere else.

00:36:11.32 – 00:36:19.62

Yeah, that's a good, that's a good sign of confidence. I like that, you know, you know, the season's going well and you're like, what if I? just what if I just did like?

2Speaker 2
00:36:19.62 – 00:36:30.38

Mall security. Didn't that guy also say, like, I miss the days when kickers and punters could smoke cigarettes and drink beer, back when you could have fun in America? He's fun. Yeah, you can't spell Nutsack without UTSA.

00:36:30.46 – 00:36:32.62

That's what chaps taught me, that's a fact, uh, but yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:36:32.62 – 00:36:44.34

This weekend is going to be awesome, I'm very, very excited. Uh, and Colorado, Oregon, like I do think Oregon, I think Oregon's going to win by a lot. Oh, I know what I want to say, Hank, you went to the Michigan State Bar.

00:36:44.62 – 00:36:50.90

Yeah, Washington might be, I might have to put a future on Washington. They're so electric, Washington looked really good, and Michigan.

2Speaker 2
00:36:50.90 – 00:36:59.88

State 700 plus yards Phoenix is good. Yeah, Michigan State has a quarterback that can't throw and they can't tackle on defense. Those seem important.

00:37:00.00 – 00:37:09.06

One of the worst combinations you can have. Uh, it was tough. So what's next? How are the fans? Real quick? Give us a low down on what's the vibe like with Michigan State fan?

00:37:09.10 – 00:37:18.20

Oh yeah, do you get our multiple Mel Tucker report? Uh, Mel Tucker report is that they are a number two preseason ranked college basketball. Oh, everyone just kept being like, Yeah, they just kept being like.

00:37:18.20 – 00:37:24.92

Good report. Our basketball team is going to be sick, don't worry about it, like we're preseason ranked number two, yeah.

00:37:25.00 – 00:37:34.44

Uh, there was, I mean, there was a lot of people that that's the crazy thing. Even though Nebraska was terrible, Michigan State was terrible. Like the people show up, we're expecting a win. I thought it might happen.

00:37:34.54 – 00:37:36.20

And then they got 35.

1Speaker 1
00:37:36.20 – 00:37:46.16

Pieced in the first half. Yeah, so who? What's this weekend, Iowa? You're going to foreshadows? I was thinking, maybe Purdue on Friday night against Wisconsin.

2Speaker 2
00:37:46.32 – 00:37:51.80

You motherfucker, well, I got a, you know, it's what he's doing, you know, that's good for you.

1Speaker 1
00:37:51.84 – 00:38:00.34

No two teams have been, I think, 77 21. Hank will find a way to kiss of death if I do Iowa.

2Speaker 2
00:38:00.34 – 00:38:06.32

They're going to lose. If I do Penn State, I got to do Penn State with Max, yeah.

3Speaker 3
00:38:07.76 – 00:38:10.72

I got, I got some Penn State buddies coming to town this weekend.

00:38:12.44 – 00:38:15.52

Uh, the Kisser cannot come, the Kisser could not come.

1Speaker 1
00:38:20.46 – 00:38:24.88

You should do it. It's Friday night, yeah, but that's good for you big time. Stop Jake.

00:38:24.94 – 00:38:28.54

He's going to fucking, they're going to win, and he's going to rub it in my face. Don't do it, do it.

2Speaker 2
00:38:29.84 – 00:38:35.94

Hank Question Piece of shit factor fiction? It would be good for the show. If you're boilermakers, beat big cats badgers.

00:38:36.06 – 00:38:40.82

I don't want to be a boilermaker, though, but I also don't know when to do it. I don't know when else to, I gotta, you know.

1Speaker 1
00:38:40.90 – 00:38:56.30

You're playing the big drum. Purdue might be playing in Evanston. Neil Armstrong to to, to, Uh, why don't you wait? Purdue on the road? Why don't you just do Ohio State? This is the game to get up for. True, Yeah, true.

00:38:56.44 – 00:39:04.20

That would be the most electric atmosphere. Go with Mark and it's, yeah, and it's a three point spread, so you're not going to get blown.

2Speaker 2
00:39:04.20 – 00:39:09.86

Out, I think it's a good call. Yeah, you'd be such a piece of shit if you became a Buckeye fan.

1Speaker 1
00:39:09.98 – 00:39:18.36

Yeah, I would hate that, that would actually be very funny just rolling around. Patriots, cowboys, you could use the same, you could use the same Jean shorts you have for the Cowboys.

00:39:18.46 – 00:39:20.94

Yeah, yeah, uh yeah, okay yeah.

00:39:20.94 – 00:39:30.04

You should do that, that's gonna be, you know? I'm so excited for that game. Uh, let me see what Purdue schedule I think they do play in Evanston, I think they might even play it.

00:39:30.46 – 00:39:34.90

I think there's a game at Wrigley this year. Ooh, yeah, which would be fun, all right.

00:39:35.02 – 00:39:40.32

Well, your, your teams, yeah, so far, what's the combined score? I think, 77 21..

2Speaker 2
00:39:40.52 – 00:39:45.28

Oh, yikes, double check that, but we left it. I mean, I left the bar in half.

00:39:46.94 – 00:39:54.46

You just like, Fuck this. What's your statement on Mel Tucker? Hank? Good riddance? No, you number two in basketball, number two in basketball.

00:39:54.46 – 00:39:55.28

Yeah, what are you?

1Speaker 1
00:39:55.28 – 00:40:03.24

Talking about number two in basketball, dude, it's pretty easy. Number two in basketball, I was playing at Northwestern at Wrigley.

00:40:04.02 – 00:40:06.50

That'd be fun. Maybe that's your northwestern, yeah.

2Speaker 2
00:40:06.50 – 00:40:11.02

Yeah, that'd be fun. I'll go with you. Rude on my wild cats, my duke's one.

00:40:11.16 – 00:40:22.32

You see that, yeah. This should have been the The Sunbelt Championship from last year that Jamie was not allowed to play in because of antiquated NCAA rules. But we went to Troy, we won 16 14. Utah State.

00:40:22.40 – 00:40:26.88

We take care of business. Then maybe some people are saying, game day, game day in Harrisonburg, we'll see.

1Speaker 1
00:40:27.20 – 00:40:35.10

Game Day Okay, let's do. Hot seat chill thrown and Hot seat chill thrown is brought to you by our friends at Coors Light Game.

00:41:17.02 – 00:41:26.54

Game Day will never be the same with the hot seat chill thrown, PMT chill thrown by Coors light. Love it all, right, hank, what's your hot seat?

2Speaker 2
00:41:26.54 – 00:41:39.60

And chill thrown, Uh, my hot seat is the U s military. Oh, you hate them. Do we need the Coast Guard? This story, well, pft, you can tell me, you know, F 35 or those.

00:41:39.60 – 00:41:41.32

How expensive is an F 35?

00:41:41.46 – 00:41:49.88

Uh, at the top of my head, uh. If they're on sale, you can get one for 60 mil, but they're probably like closer to 70, 80 mil. Are they important? They're very important, yeah.

00:41:49.88 – 00:41:50.10

To the.

1Speaker 1
00:41:50.10 – 00:42:01.06

Future of electronic warfare? Hey, did you guys hear this one? Did you see this one? The, uh, the U S has lost, uh, over a hundred million dollars of jets the last week, oh, and the new.

2Speaker 2
00:42:01.06 – 00:42:08.80

Jet Yeah, that's pretty good, that's pretty good. So for a while, they the F 35 lightning, the F 35 lightning, they just lost it, they said. We don't know where it is.

00:42:08.92 – 00:42:20.16

And then it turns out that it crashed and they're worried that it got hacked. Yeah, how? I mean, I don't think it got hacked. I mean, have you seen the inside of one of these things? It's poor, poor piloting.

00:42:20.24 – 00:42:37.76

It could have been sounds like you don't respect the troops, it could have been poor piloting, it could have been. I saw one report that he might've flown it directly into a storm. Or she, probably she, uh, but. And then they had to bail out and eject. And the plane kept flying and it went like, I don't know, 70 miles and crashed.

00:42:39.46 – 00:42:50.60

That's insane, it is insane. It is crazy that we weren't able to find this plane for, like, 24 hours. The craziest part is that the military asked Americans for help. They're like, Hey, my bad.

00:42:50.74 – 00:43:10.90

It used to be back in the day, back when the military before it went woke. When we just crash a bomber that had a nuclear armed bomb on it into a swamp in North Carolina, and then we just pretend it didn't happen for 40 years. That's how we used to do things back when men were men. Now we crash one F 35 and the government hops. On Twitter. It was like, Hey, can you help us track this thing down?

00:43:11.00 – 00:43:19.76

We don't want to look for crash. Yeah, they basically, they crowdsourced, looking for an $80 million for the future of American warfare. Yeah, you hear a big boom on Saturday.

00:43:20.00 – 00:43:33.32

Yeah, so we found it, I don't know, I don't know if it got hacked. Tank. There was one report that came out yesterday at the Marine Corps, uh, issue guidance, saying like, Hey, we're grounding all these flights to do, uh, I guess, just like safety prep and stuff.

00:43:33.34 – 00:43:43.46

And everyone's like, Oh, they must be hacked. I don't think they get hacked. I don't think they get hacked. China, China, send weather balloons over China, China, China, bring all the weather balloons. well, I'll shoot down a weather balloon.

00:43:43.54 – 00:43:49.98

My eyes closed, it sounds like you're like, in the Chinese pockets. Why? Sounds like this thing got hacked? Yeah.

00:43:50.34 – 00:44:00.66

How could you be a pilot and not look at the fucking weather? I don't know. I'm going to take out the F 35 for a quick spin. Hope it's not raining. Maybe China, maybe trying to hack the weather.

00:44:00.88 – 00:44:07.20

Yeah, and they made the storm. You ever think of that? Hank? That's true, too. You're just trying to, you know, rub wool over.

00:44:08.40 – 00:44:10.94

You know, to help this plane find its way home.

00:44:13.06 – 00:44:18.40

A pilot? No, yeah, pilot could call a lighthouse. a lighthouse would have a lighthouse.

00:44:18.52 – 00:44:28.24

Yeah, if they had a real lighthouse, we'll never get lost. Get some tall beacons. Yeah, I'm never going to.

1Speaker 1
00:44:28.24 – 00:44:32.56

Stop at the lighthouse. It makes me laugh every time. All right, hank, what's your chill we?

2Speaker 2
00:44:32.56 – 00:44:40.08

Think it's funnier if we never go well. That's what I realized. So I was thinking about it. Why PFT keeps talking with this lighthouse? Why are you bringing it up?

00:44:40.34 – 00:44:45.60

You just brought it up and like, it's like, we get invited, we can go. And then I remember, PFT is too scared of heights.

00:44:47.98 – 00:44:52.92

That's why he hates it. He's like, Oh my God, tall, tall, scary tall. Yeah, you're lashing out hank, that's fine.

00:44:53.20 – 00:44:59.14

That's fine, I'll just try to like, why does PFT hate this fucking land house so much? I was like, Oh, yeah, it's tall, but the better question is, why do you keep?

1Speaker 1
00:44:59.14 – 00:45:02.88

Bringing it up, I'm done, okay, I'm done, but we should go.

00:45:03.08 – 00:45:04.32

Okay, I'm sure you're done all right.

2Speaker 2
00:45:04.38 – 00:45:08.30

But we should go okay, we should go well. Me and big catch Would you fuck the lighthouse?

00:45:10.04 – 00:45:15.34

Yeah, you just brought it up again, Hank. It's too big, it's probably too big for me, it wouldn't fit inside.

00:45:15.58 – 00:45:32.60

Your chill throne, my chill throne is Sean McVay, okay? He said. The reason that he kicked a field goal with two seconds left or three seconds left in the game down 10, was to avoid getting Matthew Stafford hurt. Oh, yeah.

00:45:32.74 – 00:45:42.40

It's it's tough, you get a lot of quarterbacks hurt on, kneel down. Did you see? did you see? Also, it was like we were thinking we were going to, you know, get a downfield play and have enough time to kick a field goal, get an onsite kick.

00:45:42.80 – 00:45:45.68

And then, you know, once we got down there, we just said, let's kick the field goal.

1Speaker 1
00:45:46.18 – 00:45:59.38

Did you see? Also? Ravel was like, Uh, I tried to join the Zoom for press conference, they didn't let me in. Very suspicious for not letting a gambling reporter, and it's like, Hey dude, Ravel, maybe you're just annoying.

00:45:59.90 – 00:46:03.16

Like, that probably was it. Yeah, sometimes the, uh, the.

2Speaker 2
00:46:03.16 – 00:46:11.64

Simplest, simplest explanation is the right one, right? I think with Ravel, it's like, Why do? Why does everyone keep blocking me from all these things? They must be afraid of my reporting.

00:46:11.76 – 00:46:11.90

Yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:46:11.90 – 00:46:18.06

They don't want to hear the truth. No, we just don't want to hang out with you. Pretty simple, even if it's on a Zoom, all right.

00:46:18.08 – 00:46:20.90

Your hot seat chill thrown. PF. I was actually going to do the.

2Speaker 2
00:46:20.90 – 00:46:28.70

Lighthouse on the on the hot seat. Because, you know, we reached out to the Coast Guard for comment, but we've already gone through that. I'd want to relitigate it, yeah.

1Speaker 1
00:46:32.34 – 00:46:37.24

Hank, I got work to do, he's doing it again. I got work to do. Stop bringing it up, bring it up.

2Speaker 2
00:46:37.64 – 00:46:57.16

Um, so my hot seat is going to be, um, I got one for you, I got another one, uh, the seat that's right next to Lauren. Bobert. Oh, because, uh, a report came out that she's single again, number one. It was a first, and that it was her first date with this guy that she was jacking off at. The musical, which is fucking hot.

00:46:57.42 – 00:47:08.02

Like this, you know me, big cat, I like grandmothers, right? We got sister Jean, Virginia McCasky, Lauren Bobert, all the grandmothers. Yeah, first.

1Speaker 1
00:47:08.02 – 00:47:13.04

Date this year? That's not, I'm not being horny, I'm being normal. Yeah, you're being.

2Speaker 2
00:47:13.26 – 00:47:17.80

If you're not horny with the Lauren Bobert thing, you're telling on yourself for being super horny.

1Speaker 1
00:47:17.80 – 00:47:28.22

So horny that you're afraid to admit it. And also the bunk list should not have us trying to book guests like Tiffany Gomez, which we're trying to book correct. So if we, if you see, that's just.

2Speaker 2
00:47:28.22 – 00:47:36.98

A regular booking of a guest? If you see us interacting with Tiffany, please be cool about it. We're not being horny, we just we'd like to interview her and get her story, her side of.

1Speaker 1
00:47:36.98 – 00:47:42.62

Things PFT is trying to get her on the show and I, I dM'd her. I said, Hey, what's up Tiffany? Thanks for the follow.

00:47:42.74 – 00:47:49.48

My cohost and good friend PFT is a pretty awesome dude. I think you guys connected, but wanted to give you the heads up that he rocks, lol yeah.

00:47:49.72 – 00:47:51.24

I, I do rock there are.

2Speaker 2
00:47:51.24 – 00:48:00.70

A couple of true things in that statement number one I rock. I'm a pretty awesome dude and I have made contact with Tiffany Gomez and I think she's interested coming on the show. So everybody be chill.

00:48:00.84 – 00:48:08.80

Be very cool, don't fuck this up, memes did call dibs. Yeah, so after I said, Okay, I'm going to try to get it on the show.

00:48:09.24 – 00:48:12.58

Uh, memes just goes, Oh, she followed part of my take, too, I'm.

1Speaker 1
00:48:12.58 – 00:48:16.90

Going to DM her? Yeah, then he said it again, He was like, Do you guys want me to DM her? yeah.

00:48:17.02 – 00:48:19.76

No memes. We're good, we got it, we got it, bro, Daddy's got it.

00:48:19.78 – 00:48:21.34

No problem, why don't you stand?

2Speaker 2
00:48:21.34 – 00:48:29.58

Over there, daddy's bringing it home. Okay, he's going to land this plane, but I will respect Dibs once it's a storm. Shut the fuck up.

00:48:29.82 – 00:48:42.98

Uh, my cool throne is Bill's mafia. Yeah, Bill's Mafia is back big time. I saw this big time. So there was a Bill's fan on Sunday's game with the Raiders in town. Uh, that got naked.

00:48:43.14 – 00:48:56.82

I believe you might've been naked. No, he's covered in shit, he was on LSD coke, drunk, and he was covered in human shit. And he jumped into a pit at the Bill's new stadium site and he got charged with trespassing, which I'm sorry.

00:48:56.88 – 00:49:06.84

I thought this was America. Guys can't have fun in America, we can't. Kickers can't smoke cigarettes, drink beer, and a Bill's fan can't take LSD crazy and climb into the future home of the Buffalo Bills.

00:49:07.04 – 00:49:17.72

Crazy Um, I love this from Bill's Mafia. I feel like it's been a while since we've seen a crazy Bill's fan story. So it's good to have this back in the system. Um, but yeah, taking LSD, he probably saw the future.

00:49:17.82 – 00:49:29.46

He probably took LSD, saw the site that they were going to construct the stadium at. So I'm going to go watch a Bill's game in the future at their future home. Yes, and he was, he happened to be covered in shit, I don't know.

00:49:29.46 – 00:49:40.98

I don't know how that happened, um, but whatever, he was 29 years old. We all make mistakes when we're younger, but I feel like Mafia is officially back. He's barely an adult, yeah, so I just a kid, 29 years old.

00:49:41.06 – 00:49:55.22

I don't, I don't like the fact that I have to deal with this. Going into the bills, playing the Commanders this weekend, it feels like things are breaking the right way for the bills. Um, they're wanting to know, since this guy climbed into the Future stadium on LSD naked, covered in shit. And then maybe it's a win one for the poop acid guy.

00:49:55.26 – 00:50:01.50

It might be, Yeah, this could be an acid bet. So, uh, I feel a little, a little nervous about that, but I am happy for Bill's fans that they're back.

1Speaker 1
00:50:01.50 – 00:50:07.42

To their old selves. Yes, all right, my hot seat. I got two, uh. The first is Russ Russell Wilson.

00:50:08.28 – 00:50:18.66

Uh, he might have to go back to an A wristband. So Sean, uh, Sean Payton was like, we're not getting the plays in in time. It was very funny, cause Sean was like, I'm frustrated. We're not getting the calls out.

00:50:18.70 – 00:50:27.68

We might have to go to a wristband. And then Russell Wilson got interviewed right after and he was like, I thought we were doing a great job. Yeah, like, we like, maybe one or two times you didn't, but yeah, we, we rock that.

00:50:27.74 – 00:50:29.02

Can somebody explain to me what?

2Speaker 2
00:50:29.02 – 00:50:32.44

The issue is with wearing a wristband, I know a lot of quarterbacks don't want to wear one.

1Speaker 1
00:50:32.66 – 00:50:36.72

They might steal it, they might go. What do you mean? the other team might steal it, Oh.

2Speaker 2
00:50:36.74 – 00:50:40.26

They might take the wristband, yeah, they might take it. So Russ is just being a good guardian.

1Speaker 1
00:50:40.78 – 00:50:53.38

Yes, okay, um, and then my other hot seat is the Tampa Rays. So they got a new stadium coming, oh, put out some pretty cool, uh, future graphics of the stadium.

00:50:54.08 – 00:51:06.36

And, uh, didn't really look closely when they were doing that. Cause it's a bunch of fans walking in this beautiful concourse, and one of them was wearing a Wander Franco jersey. Oh, no, Jake, Jake's favorite player.

3Speaker 3
00:51:06.50 – 00:51:15.06

Whoops. They're also staying in St. Pete, which I guess people wanted them closer to Tampa. Oh, is that a rivalry? No, it's not in Tampa.

00:51:15.26 – 00:51:18.22

I mean, Tampa is just more centrally located for.

2Speaker 2
00:51:18.22 – 00:51:21.96

People, St. Pete, St. Pete, people forget there's no actual city called Tampa Bay.

00:51:22.08 – 00:51:23.16

Yeah, it's Tampa.

1Speaker 1
00:51:23.80 – 00:51:27.72

It's just the water, it's in a bay. It's true, yeah, but that's tough.

00:51:27.86 – 00:51:32.82

Yeah, wonder Franco Jersey, you got it? you got to do one last look to make sure, yeah.

00:51:33.08 – 00:51:34.76

You got it, yeah, every single piece.

2Speaker 2
00:51:34.76 – 00:51:39.18

Of promotion material that comes out, have a guy with a magnifying glass, yeah, it's like.

1Speaker 1
00:51:39.28 – 00:52:03.92

Where's Waldo? Yeah, and then my other, or my chill throne, is running back. So obviously the Nick Chubb injury was terrible, but, uh, thankfully Robert Griffin, the third, is back on it. So he said, Uh, after the game, NF.L. running backs need to have another Zoom meeting and figure out a way to make sure what has happened to Saquon Barkley and Nick Chubb doesn't happen again. Underpaying top level running backs because they have a higher injury chance.

00:52:03.94 – 00:52:13.86

And then overusing them is bonkers, bonkers. So R.G. three is the one person in the world who thought that Zoom Meeting meeting did anything? Yeah, I think so. He was like, this reads like a tweet that we would send.

2Speaker 2
00:52:13.86 – 00:52:39.54

As a joke, but he's being serious. So I think, well, I saw the news that came out right before the Nick Chubb injury that the NFL is now filing a grievance against the NFL PA. Because, apparently and allegedly, I don't know if this is true, but allegedly. During that Zoom meeting, the running backs discussed ways that they can maintain a little bit of leverage or gain leverage. And they threw out their, uh, feigning or exaggerating injuries. That's what Nick Chubb did.

00:52:39.72 – 00:53:06.52

And so, apparently, Nick Chubb just faked his knee falling apart, which is wild, but no, apparently on the Zoom call. This is what they somebody discussed like. Maybe we could just like, play up injuries a little bit more and then that would give us the opportunity to not have a real injury happen. And then we get to the contract sooner, where their body's intact. So I don't know if the NFL, well, the NFL heard about that, and now they're saying we need to attack the players association.

00:53:07.14 – 00:53:15.02

I don't know if R.G. Three knew that. Going into that, the players have had this master stroke, this 14 dimensional chest move of like faking a hamstring.

1Speaker 1
00:53:15.12 – 00:53:21.06

Yeah, but just R.G. three is being like, here's the solution. Another Zoom. Yeah, we'll figure this out.

00:53:21.26 – 00:53:27.08

We can't have these injuries happen. Let's get a Zoom to talk about how we can't have injuries happen anymore. Could have been an email. R.G. Three, yeah.

00:53:27.20 – 00:53:32.34

Yeah, so good, good job. Maybe the running backs would get on another Zoom. Uh, okay.

00:53:32.66 – 00:53:34.84

Jake Uh, my hot seats, Disney World.

3Speaker 3
00:53:35.38 – 00:53:39.14

A bear was on the loose in the park and they had to close 10 rides.

2Speaker 2
00:53:39.14 – 00:53:42.78

Oh, wow, bears are back. Yeah, bears are back, pretty crazy.

00:53:42.90 – 00:53:51.70

Which rides are bears in Florida? That's a good question. Okay, I thought that was about to be someone gave me a quick, dumb question, look.

00:53:51.82 – 00:54:00.82

No, I mean, I don't know anything about bear populations in Florida, but I when I hear bears, I think, definitely not. Disney World No. Was that the country bear jamboree, the racist?

00:54:00.96 – 00:54:08.24

That was, was it the racist bear? No, it was a real bear, a Bernstein, no, huh?

3Speaker 3
00:54:08.24 – 00:54:11.30

Pretty crazy. Yeah, I don't know what he's doing in Florida. Yeah, okay.

00:54:11.30 – 00:54:18.30

Uh, my cool throne is Stella, blue coffee, oh and pickleball plug, Oh God, I'm heading down to Atlanta.

1Speaker 1
00:54:18.72 – 00:54:27.82

I will be, uh, head back so violently at the plug God that he injured I will be.

3Speaker 3
00:54:27.82 – 00:54:40.06

Representing the D.C. pickleball team represented UH, sponsored by Sell the Coffee, Uh. At the M.L.P. event, we also named that team Jake, the D.C. Pickleball team. Yeah, yeah, and uh, yeah.

00:54:40.08 – 00:54:44.78

Come by, you can come watch, get tickets. great. Are you going to play? I might play matches, I'm not.

1Speaker 1
00:54:44.78 – 00:54:50.82

Going to play in a tournament, why not? I mean, MLP, Okay, let's fucking get you in the tournament.

00:54:51.02 – 00:54:55.12

Awesome respect for the MLP, I have respect for the MLP, but we should get this is like.

2Speaker 2
00:54:55.12 – 00:55:04.10

When we say we could step onto the field in the NFL and rush for five yards, no, we would die in the back. You step on a pickleball player who's in the M.L.P, he's going to put one through your.

1Speaker 1
00:55:04.10 – 00:55:07.44

Eye hole, Jake, you're ready for the MLP? I can do it. Yeah, I'll play with them.

00:55:07.60 – 00:55:08.20

Yeah, if you're.

3Speaker 3
00:55:08.20 – 00:55:14.94

An MLP player listening? I'll play with you this weekend Thursday, Friday Game week. I loved it.

2Speaker 2
00:55:15.04 – 00:55:19.54

Hank's reaction Because it was, I think it was to Jake turning on the plug. God voice Yeah, once.

1Speaker 1
00:55:19.54 – 00:55:26.84

He started jumping in Atlanta. Chill thrown, chill thrown children. Am I chill thrown? yeah.

3Speaker 3
00:55:26.84 – 00:55:29.10

It's the children, yeah.

00:55:30.76 – 00:55:34.20

I'm excited to represent Stella Blue and D.C. Pickleball Thursday and.

1Speaker 1
00:55:34.20 – 00:55:36.50

Friday come by, Love it, yeah, and Atlanta.

00:55:37.46 – 00:55:41.34

Okay, good hot seat, chill thrones, everyone, let's get to our interviews.

00:55:41.48 – 00:55:49.18

We have two, we have Sam Howell, one question of the quarterback, but before, before we do that, we have Brian Hoyer, so a lot of questions with the quarterback.

2Speaker 2
00:55:49.34 – 00:55:58.52

Multiple questions Before we do that PFT, you got a couple ads, yeah, before we get into Brian Hoyer, I want to talk to you about body armor. We're drinking body armor. Body armor is delicious, it's tasty.

00:55:58.52 – 00:56:17.34

And it is super, super refreshing. Our guests are always sponsored by Body Armor, and Body Armor hydrates the best athletes in the world. More importantly, it hydrates us. During interviews by Body Armor today, visit the Body Armor Amazon store or at retailers nationwide. The interview is also brought to you by Bush Mills.

00:56:17.48 – 00:56:27.36

That's right. We just put out a bunch of part of my take golf videos. There are three videos that went out the Silent Scramble, the Speed Golf, the sub part of my take. Um, people really enjoyed Jake's last hole.

00:56:29.34 – 00:56:34.94

You choked as hard as I've ever seen you stop it. No, I was the one hitting blame me, I didn't.

00:56:34.98 – 00:56:42.10

Were you hitting your putter? I didn't have his putter at the end. I didn't have his putter ready at the end. It was in my hand. I didn't have his putter ready for him.

00:56:42.12 – 00:56:47.94

All right, whatever hank, we're on the same team. We had the best comeback ever in the silent scramble when Jake stunk, It's true. Don't spoil it.

00:56:48.12 – 00:56:50.16

Oh geez, so bad, so bad. yeah, so bad.

00:56:50.26 – 00:57:00.76

And then just an epic comeback that was all brought to you by Bush Mill. I love Bush Mills. Irish whiskey. Uh, they earned a license to distill, and guess what year they started distilling hank?

00:57:04.44 – 00:57:05.52

1901 1608.

00:57:05.66 – 00:57:20.88

Holy James, the first. There were other licenses to distill whiskey granted around Ireland, but none of those distilleries have survived. Only Bush Mills has survived until this day. Not only is it the oldest, but Bush Mills has been making single malt whiskey longer than anyone.

00:57:21.32 – 00:57:45.92

The best of both world. Bush Mills is a smooth, triple distilled Irish whiskey, but with the complexity of a single malt. that's why Bush Mills is Ireland's most awarded single malt whiskey. Chart your own own course Course with Bush Mills. Bush Mills is the official whiskey of the PGA Tour. And it was the, uh, the exact right product for Hank and I to take sips of to fuel our comeback in the silent scramble that everyone's talking about. Bush Mills, Irish.

1Speaker 1
00:57:45.92 – 00:57:48.84

Whiskey? And now here's Brian Hoyer, Yeah.

00:57:50.80 – 00:58:04.92

Okay, we now welcome on a very special guest. It is Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer. Uh, who has been on many teams. Superbowl champion as well, I should say, Do you get introduced to the Superbowl champion?

3Speaker 3
00:58:04.92 – 00:58:09.14

By when you don't play in the game, you don't get usually introduced that way.

1Speaker 1
00:58:09.20 – 00:58:14.06

But I was on the team. Yeah, that's bullshit, you should. You are a Superbowl champion, you?

3Speaker 3
00:58:14.06 – 00:58:20.08

Were on the roster, you're in the team picture, that's, yeah, you know, I was thinking about this, um, I don't know if you remember this.

00:58:20.16 – 00:58:34.54

You remember when we met, we were down there in Atlanta, at that restaurant, it was me and Tony and Ted Karras, and we were at that. I think it's called Umi, that sushi place, and and we we. That was the first time I ever met you. So I was thinking about that, driving in and I was like, Yeah, that was the week of the Superbowl.

1Speaker 1
00:58:34.62 – 00:58:38.08

Yeah, I was like, good luck in the game and I think you were like, I hope I don't play in this game.

00:58:40.30 – 00:58:46.02

Like, that could be a problem, that could be a problem, but yeah, it's hard to be a backup quarterback. You never know, yeah.

00:58:46.04 – 00:59:04.30

So let's let's start there, cause, I mean, you obviously started as well. I actually should say, uh, and and this might be bringing up bad things. But the Browns year, that you got the starting job and that Thursday night game, I think it was when you got hurt. Yeah, I believe I was like this.

00:59:04.30 – 00:59:19.54

Is it the Brian Hoyer, you know, local kid this? He's going to be the guy for the Browns. So I don't know if you had those same thoughts going through your head. But I really, I really did feel it. And I was like, for many years, I was like, a big what if? Like, Brian, where was the guy?

3Speaker 3
00:59:20.74 – 00:59:32.46

Trust me, I saw North Turner out here, he was our offensive coordinator and his son Scott coaches on our staff out here. He's like, Man, if you ever would have fricking, learned how to slide, maybe all, maybe we all still be there. Um, you know it just, it was bad timing.

00:59:32.50 – 00:59:59.80

It was like, obviously, like, childhood dream, you know? I grew up in Cleveland, grew up chair for the Browns before they left. And then all of a sudden I'm playing for them and we're winning. And you know if if my cleat just hadn't got stuck in that grass, or if Keiko Alonzo hadn't hit me at the same time? Like, you never know. But um, there's a lot of those what ifs in a long career. And you know, I got a chance to start again the next year and unfortunately it just didn't work out. But um, you know, I'm happy to still be playing and and I've learned a lot over 15.

2Speaker 2
00:59:59.80 – 01:00:09.04

Years, Yeah, I remember that year I actually went to a Browns game and I was driving through Ohio. And it was Brian Hoyer's face on Mr. Hero billboards on the side of the road.

01:00:09.42 – 01:00:13.66

Yeah, they loved you, they loved you in Ohio, and then Draft Day came out while you were in.

3Speaker 3
01:00:13.80 – 01:00:17.76

While you were in Cleveland, right? And I remember, we went to, like, a little premiere for that, that.

2Speaker 2
01:00:17.76 – 01:00:27.46

Was pretty cool. I thought that the quarterback that they had for the Browns was like, loosely based around you. Did you ever feel that? Well, it's funny, cause I had just kind of like that.

3Speaker 3
01:00:27.46 – 01:00:45.36

Movie was already in production before I even kind of got there, cause I remember I got there in 2013 and they had already wrapped up all the all the shooting. But it was it was funny, cause then I go go see this premiere. And it's like, it kind of was like the same thing, like, are they going to draft this high profile, high profile quarterback early?

01:00:45.72 – 01:00:55.44

And the, you know, the GM was like, No, we're sticking with you. We're going to draft this running back and this linebacker. And you know, it was. It was kind of a cool, cool story, but yeah, didn't work out that way in real.

1Speaker 1
01:00:55.44 – 01:00:58.82

Life Yeah, I never even put that together, but you're right, it was like it was the same thing.

2Speaker 2
01:00:58.84 – 01:01:09.70

It was like an injured quarterback that was coming back from from something, but he was good, he was solid. He's a better quarterback than the team scene in a long time. I was like, this is how did they write this? how did they write this before it happened?

01:01:10.14 – 01:01:12.56

Brian Horst Crazy, So.

1Speaker 1
01:01:13.12 – 01:01:31.48

And this always a tough question to ask because you, you have been a backup the majority of your career. Yeah, what makes a good backup? Because I? We have this debate all the time on Twitter. Where it's like, Uh, some star quarterback decides to retire, it's like, Well, he would be better than all these backups, but they don't understand that.

01:01:31.48 – 01:01:48.08

Like, being a backup quarterback, I think, is more than just, uh, like, talent. It's there's. You gotta be a guy in the locker room, you gotta be able to help the starter, all these things. So what in your minds? You are a phenomenal backup quarterback. What in your mind's like? Is that recipe for being a good?

3Speaker 3
01:01:48.08 – 01:01:56.92

Backup quarterback Yeah, well, I look at it like I was kind of a backup in two separate parts of my career, like, obviously the beginning. I'm a young guy learning from Tom Brady every day in and day out.

01:01:57.02 – 01:02:22.46

Like, was I prepared to, like, go in and do well if something had happened to him? Probably not as prepared as I w as I am now, with all the experience that I've had. But, you know, those years when you're a backup, it's all about soaking it in and learning. And, and, uh, obviously being ready to play. And you don't get a ton of reps, but you know, it's. It's a great. It was a great learning experience for me and then I had a chance to play for, a bunch of, you know, different teams, Cleveland, your team, Chicago, Houston.

01:02:23.22 – 01:02:48.48

And then you kind of gain this, um, you know, obviously the playing experience and you learn from those, those instances. And then, you know. I went back to New England and I'm back in Tom Up and it was a different scenario because I'd actually played. And and I think he valued my opinion a little bit more than when I was just this rookie guy who had never done anything. And we, you know, had a great relationship. And I'd be there on the sideline to see things and and you know when he'd come into the sideline and be like, Hey, what, you know what? They plan third down?

01:02:48.62 – 01:03:19.32

And, you know, I'm trying to watch and be eyes from him, from the sideline, while also, you know, being ready to play. And a big thing about, you know, back in Tom Up was, you know, as he got older, he couldn't practice every day. So, you know, it'd be, it'd be my responsibility to go in there and, you know, keep the team going and have a good practice. And which was great because it prepared me for the game that week. And then, you know, then you become a backup to a young guy like Mack Jones. And it's more about you. Don't take any reps because he needs every rep. And just try to impart the wisdom that, you know, you've learned over the years.

01:03:19.48 – 01:03:39.98

And now here, backing up Jim D. And, you know, kind of the same thing. Haven't been in, you know, our offense of system for a long time. It's, you know, you know, try to help him where he needs help and if he asked for it. And at the same time, you know, be ready to play. Like, you know, the first drive of the season, he ran, the ball, scrambled, got hit, they had to take him out to make sure he was okay.

01:03:39.98 – 01:04:02.18

And it's like, Boom, you're thrust in there, you just never know when it's going to be, and you know, that's. That's probably the most difficult part is you go to the game day and you have to be mentally prepared to play, but you may not play at all, right? And so I always found it easier as a starter because at least you have the week going in. You know, when the offense takes the field, you're going out there and you're prepared to play 60 minutes.

01:04:02.52 – 01:04:03.30

Yeah, did you?

1Speaker 1
01:04:03.42 – 01:04:12.92

Just a quick follow-up on that. Have you ever had a moment in your career? Where, like, the defense is just teeing off on the starting offense and the quarterback gets hurt? And you're like, Oh?

3Speaker 3
01:04:12.92 – 01:04:40.46

Fuck, I don't want to do this, I mean, not that I don't want to do it, it's it's the role. But oddly enough, of all the years that I've been a backroom quarterback, it's only been one or two times where I've had to been thrust into action. Which is kind of crazy when you think about um, the the for the most um. Notable was when I played in the Colts with Uh, and I was backing up Jacoby Brissett. And a lot of times, like when the place called, I'm like, all right, there's a chance that he's going to get hit here. And I remember it was a play, it was like a quick pass.

01:04:40.90 – 01:04:52.16

And I didn't even think. And then all of a sudden the plays over and I'm looking at where the ball was completed. And you hear the whistles and I'm like, You know what happened? and I look and Jacoby's down. I'm like, How did, how did you get hurt on this plate? You know what I mean?

01:04:52.16 – 01:05:13.06

But one of the one of the linemen had fallen into his knee. And and um, I'd only been there for like four or five weeks. I came at the end of training camp and I get in the game and I'm like, God, please just call some plays that I know. I remember one time there was at one point we called a run play. And I'm looking at the defense. We're playing the Steelers and it's like a run. The left and they have like seven guys over there and our center was Ryan Kelly.

01:05:13.20 – 01:05:24.66

And I go, Ryan, we can't, we can't run this play. Like, how do I get a play to the right? And he, like, said the name? I'm like, All right, that's the one we're doing, let's go to the right and get it first down. But um, you know, sometimes you just got to go on the fly.

01:05:25.00 – 01:05:26.02

Did you always know where?

2Speaker 2
01:05:26.02 – 01:05:30.14

Your helmet was just in case, even though you've only been, like, jumped into action with the guys.

3Speaker 3
01:05:30.14 – 01:05:38.42

That, you know, Bella Check is like, when you're the back of quarterback, you don't get in your piece, you like your helmets on. Cause there were games, you know, early in my career, where it'd be.

01:05:41.62 – 01:05:57.34

Like, Hoyer, get in there and he just, you'd be like, you know, sometimes it was a precinct game, but it happened in a regular season game too. And so, you know, that was part of Bill's thing, was always keeping it on her toes. And so for me, when I'm on the backup, my helmet's on. First time, I got to hear the play and second, like, you got to be ready to go.

01:05:57.58 – 01:05:58.76

Yeah, that would be my.

2Speaker 2
01:05:58.76 – 01:06:04.94

Nightmare is being a backup quarterback, you get a shot and then just running all over the sideline. Somebody took my helmet, someone took my helmet, yeah.

01:06:05.06 – 01:06:06.54

Get that thing back on. I always have my.

3Speaker 3
01:06:06.54 – 01:06:15.60

Offense on the field, my helmet's always on. When did you? When did you learn that Bella Check liked you? Good question, I don't know if I ever did, to be honest with you.

01:06:16.68 – 01:06:36.64

I mean, he kept, he brought you back, right? Yeah, no, I mean, I think for me, it was, you know, my rookie year. You know, I didn't get drafted and I thought I was going to. And then, you know, of course, when you don't get drafted, you get all these teams calling you after the draft. And and I remember my agent was like, Hey, I think, you know, New England really likes you, and I think that's where you should go.

01:06:36.70 – 01:06:52.90

I have a good relationship with these guys and I was like, Joe, you know, Tom Brady is like, this is ninth year. They had just drafted Kevin O'Connell, who's now the head coach in Kansas City, the year before, like in the second or third round. And they had another guy who had been there for a long time, Matt Gutierrez, and he goes, just trust me.

01:06:52.94 – 01:07:07.38

I think, you know, I've talked to Nick Casario, who was like their pro personnel guy at the time. And he's like, I think that it'll be a good fit. And, worst case scenario, you get to learn from, you know, the greatest coach and the greatest quarterback of all time. And I said, All right, and I went there and I just tried to learn and soak it all in.

01:07:07.48 – 01:07:37.92

And you know, week after week got better, got better, and then all of a sudden the next thing. I know I'm Tom's backup on opening day and he's coming off of, you know, major knee reconstruction. And so I think then I kind of knew, like, you know, they believed in me and that's what they wanted me to do was to be there and and obviously be Tom's backup and learn from him. And and then, you know, I ended up leaving and playing for a few other teams and part of the Jimmy Jimmy G trade. When he went to San Francisco was, you know, for me to go back to New England, and obviously he wanted me back then too.

01:07:38.10 – 01:07:49.26

So, you know, it's, it's funny, like you never know how things are going to play out. And you know, to be able to go back there several times. I think, you know, that always showed, showed a vote of confidence. Yeah, yeah, so you.

1Speaker 1
01:07:49.34 – 01:08:02.30

You won a Super Bowl and then you also lost a Super Bowl in the Patriots. What as a backup? Do you say anything after, like the two 2011 lost the Giants? Do you, do you say anything or do you?

3Speaker 3
01:08:02.30 – 01:08:22.28

Just like, I'm not saying shit in this locker room. Yeah, I mean, that was my first experience losing and, and, um, you know, for me, that like, I don't know, this is. This is like the the top that it could ever get for me and my career, and to lose it was, it was heartbreaking. And, um, you know, you go in. And I remember, just, I remember Tom just sitting there in his locker and his uniform for like 45 minutes, an hour.

01:08:22.90 – 01:08:36.70

And I was like, God like, and I was going to be a free agent the next year, so I'm like, God, is this? This could be it. And then, you know, I was there again when we lost to the Eagles, and, um, you know, that game was incredible. I mean, I remember sitting on the sideline and Tom was just in the zone.

01:08:36.74 – 01:08:43.46

It was like he came over, he didn't say anything, he looked at the pictures, that was it. He went back out. And I mean, he threw for 500 and some yards in the Super Bowl.

01:08:43.58 – 01:08:54.16

It was crazy. And, um, you know, after losing it for the second time, you walk back in the locker room and like, Geez, like, maybe I'm, I'm the one that's. I've been here for two of the losses, um, you know which?

01:08:54.16 – 01:08:58.70

That made it that much sweeter when when I was a part of the winning team the next year when we beat the Rams.

1Speaker 1
01:08:58.88 – 01:09:09.04

Yeah, I feel like I would try to crack a joke and everyone would be really pissed at me. That's that's probably exactly what. Just be like, Yeah, just get out, you know, in the locker room after Super Bowl loss. Be like, we'll get them, we'll get them next week.

2Speaker 2
01:09:09.06 – 01:09:10.48

Guys yeah.

01:09:14.40 – 01:09:21.86

We'll get them next week. Do you blame yourself as a not being good enough on scout team to give the guys a good look at the Philly special?

3Speaker 3
01:09:22.90 – 01:09:50.44

Oh man, I, you know what, it didn't run that one, so you know, I can't say I gave him a bad look because we never, we never ran it. But you know, that's a that's a ballsy call in the Super Bowl, and you know, it worked out for him. So, um, you know what that's like, like you talk about backup quarterback, like a huge part of it is, you know? I took a lot of pride in prepping our defense, um, each and every week. And and to be honest with you, it's a lot of fun because you get to imitate some other guys, so you know, you're playing against the Packers and you get to imitate Aaron Rogers.

01:09:50.64 – 01:10:24.34

Like, you're trying to make no look throws or my homes, or, you know, a Josh Allen like. There's some things that you learn, you know, skill-wise, that you could try to do, or attempt that maybe you wouldn't do in the confines of your own offense. And so I remember, you know, the Super Bowl against the Rams we were, we were playing those guys and I remember, you know, having played in the West Coast system. You know, I'm seeing a lot of these cars. I'm like, I know this play, I've run this play. And you know, talking it through with, you know the McCourty's, the High Towers, you know those guys. And saying, Hey, look like, you know, I think, you know, they're probably going to try to do this on this play.

01:10:24.34 – 01:10:41.42

And it was pretty cool, cause after that Super Bowl, Devin and and Jason McCourty both, you know, did an interview and talked about, you know how. I helped contribute to them and their preparation. That meant a lot for me for not having to be able to, you know, take the field and take a snap. Knowing that I contributed and those guys felt like I really prepped them for the game.

1Speaker 1
01:10:41.42 – 01:11:07.60

You are a Super Bowl champion, you got to just tell that story every single time. So, yeah, I mean that that, that's a great story. And it's gotta be like a very pressure pack situation and be like, I don't actually get to affect how this game's going to go. But I'm part of this and I'm part of the bigger thing here, which which every single week has to be like. It kind of probably weighs on you a little bit, knowing that, like, I can't go out there and help.

2Speaker 2
01:11:07.60 – 01:11:15.42

We gotta be Jared Golf one week, you gotta be Deshaun Watson the next week. It's, yeah, there's a lot that goes into being a backup quarterback. Did Ernie Adams ever give you?

1Speaker 1
01:11:15.42 – 01:11:19.82

A little tip Did he ever tell you something to do as a as the as the scout team?

3Speaker 3
01:11:20.72 – 01:11:34.80

Well, funny fact about Ernie is sometimes like, on Fridays, they'd let Ernie draw the cards for the scout team. And he'd come down and be like, Hey, look, I got the Transcontinental special set up for these guys, so they were going to get them on. It's like a double reverse pass back to the quarterback and like, I'm like, there's no way.

01:11:34.80 – 01:11:45.82

He's like, Oh, I saw this coordinator, he ran it back, you know, when he was the offensive coordinator in eastern Michigan, you know, 30 years ago. Yeah, so Ernie was always trying to keep those guys on the toes and I was like, it'd be funny.

01:11:45.82 – 01:11:52.32

Cause you could tell when the card was drawn by Ernie and have all these scribbles on it and it'd be like a crazy play. Oh, that's, yeah, he's, he's one of.

2Speaker 2
01:11:52.32 – 01:12:03.06

The one of our favorite like, unsung like, secret characters in the NFL that I guess more and more wizard of Oz. Yeah, so so Ernie was actually like, involved Friday was Ernie Day, yeah.

01:12:04.94 – 01:12:05.34

There.

3Speaker 3
01:12:05.34 – 01:12:28.06

I was a part of those offensive practice where he drew this, the cards for the defense and you'd have this whole scouting report. Josh McDaniels is notorious for prepping us, like, look on this down in distance, we got to narrow it down to this. And you know, Ernie would have the cars. And it'd be some like Exotic Blitz that they haven't shown in four years. And it catch you off guard and build back. Look, there's no rule.

01:12:28.10 – 01:12:35.22

They can't do that, yeah, and it would just drive me insane. So it was always fun when I got to run them, you know, against the defense. Cause they would get pissed off. They're like, there's no way.

1Speaker 1
01:12:35.22 – 01:12:43.98

They're going to run that. Yeah, it's funny that you did that, too, cause you did the exact same impression that Jules does when he comes on the show. So you guys nailed Ernie Adams.

2Speaker 2
01:12:44.26 – 01:12:52.70

Brian Hoyer is brought to you. We're going to get back to him a second. He's not over, but he's being brought to you. By the farmer's dog. I use the farmer's dog, Blake loves the farmer's dog.

01:12:52.74 – 01:13:02.26

That puppy is grown so fast, it's crazy. You put on like 10 pounds in the last two weeks, and the farmer's dog is fueling his growth. It's great. I'm telling you, you put this down in front of your dog.

01:13:02.64 – 01:13:09.76

They love it, they'll eat it so fast, it smells good. I think I think Max should try it. Actually, Max, I would like to see you on a farmer's dog diet.

01:13:09.80 – 01:13:30.36

At some point, the results of switching your dog's food from kibble to fresh can seem like magic. When a senior dog starts acting like a puppy again. And the pickiest of eaters can't wait for dinnertime. You might think some spells were cast. But the farmer's dog doesn't use any sorcery. They don't use secret ingredients to make their fresh food, they just use science. The farmer's dog makes and delivers fresh, healthy dog food.

01:13:30.62 – 01:13:41.88

It's developed by vets, nutritionally balanced, made from real, healthy ingredients to human food safety standards. It's not canned goo, it's just real, healthy food. It's great, Blake's coach looking awesome.

01:13:41.94 – 01:13:53.60

He's a very, very healthy dog. It is some fantastic food. I've got a freezer full of it. It's the only thing he eats and it's doing a great job. So I'm a official believer in the farmer's dog.

01:13:53.66 – 01:14:07.66

1Speaker 1
01:14:16.60 – 01:14:26.76

I have a I have an insult stat for myself. that's actually a positive stat for you. I don't know if you know this one, so Bears insult stats always go viral. People love to do it.

01:14:26.78 – 01:14:45.00

The Justin Jefferson one the other day. Do you know that you are tied, uh, for most 300 yard passing games in a bear season? you're tied for the most all time? With four in a season? Yeah, with Cutler, Mitch and Billy Wade, the four of you both had four in one season.

01:14:45.04 – 01:14:52.70

It's an insult stat that the most is for, uh, I only played five games. It's insane. We should have let you keep.

3Speaker 3
01:14:52.70 – 01:14:58.42

Going, it's crazy. It wasn't for Clay. Matthews is destroying my farm. I have bad luck.

01:14:58.42 – 01:15:07.84

On Thursday night Games, man, I actually, that was funny. You said that I know you're a Bears fan, but like, that was one of, like, the most enjoyable seasons of my career. I love I'm a Midwest kid.

01:15:07.88 – 01:15:18.14

I grew up in Cleveland, Chicago, you know, Lake Forest was beautiful, We loved it there and I was playing, I was playing well. I'm like, man, like, kind of like, what you talked about in Cleveland like this, May I may have a chance here.

01:15:18.16 – 01:15:28.26

And then Thursday night game, second quarter boom. I mean, first time I ever broke a bone in my life, it was crazy and and um, but I was on a roll. We, you know, we didn't win all those games.

01:15:28.26 – 01:15:30.86

We were close. But um, I love playing for.

1Speaker 1
01:15:30.86 – 01:15:36.02

The Bears Yeah, so you are. you are one of the best Bears quarterbacks of all time. Just based.

2Speaker 2
01:15:36.02 – 01:15:43.56

On that, yeah, for sure. Do you think that that maybe you would have gotten more chances to start if you had gone by your name, which is Axel? Yeah?

01:15:44.04 – 01:15:50.80

Axel, Axel, who Axel Hoyer is? That's, that's, that's lightning in a bottle right there. That's a starting quarterback or a great skateboarder.

3Speaker 3
01:15:50.80 – 01:15:56.90

Yeah, it really wasn't, it really wasn't up to me. So my dad's name is Axel, hence that's why I'm named after him.

01:15:56.92 – 01:16:06.02

But my mom, like, refused. She's like, there's no way. I'm calling my first born son Axel, so she named me Brian, and that's what I was always called and I always joke about it.

01:16:06.02 – 01:16:20.98

Like, you know, second, third grade, you go for the first day of school, like roll call. And they'd be like, Axel Hoyer and all the kids would laugh and I'd get upset. And so finally, I'm like, Mom, you need to send a note and tell them it's Brian. And I actually thought about switching to it when I went to college.

01:16:20.98 – 01:16:31.70

And my dad's like, don't do it. Cause, like, the moment you throw an interception, they're going to start cheering Asshole, asshole instead of Axel. And I'll say, all right, fair enough, but you know, it's it is, it's cool name, it's unique.

01:16:31.70 – 01:16:40.88

And especially now, in this day and age of like these crazy names. Everyone who meets me is like, Man, why don't you go by Axel? I'm like, you didn't grow up with it as a kid, Yeah, but you did go.

1Speaker 1
01:16:41.00 – 01:16:45.88

I mean, going from Axel to Brian, like, no offense, dude, you lost a lot of masculinity as the eighties.

2Speaker 2
01:16:47.22 – 01:16:51.92

You lost a lot of masculinity in that train. Axel Rose Axel Rose was a cool name in the eighties.

3Speaker 3
01:16:51.96 – 01:16:56.60

Right, that's true. Yeah, for sure, my dad's name. It's not like it's just they randomly.

1Speaker 1
01:16:56.88 – 01:17:05.70

That is, I mean, being like my dad's name is Axel is just as cool. Actually. Now that I'm thinking about it, that's pretty bad-ass. Yeah, that's, that's great, I can still switch.

01:17:05.84 – 01:17:10.78

I mean, G and Carlos Stanton used to be Mike Stanton, that's true. Yeah, that's a fact, you switch it up.

01:17:10.96 – 01:17:24.72

So I don't know if you watched the documentary about Johnny Manziel. We've had him on the show a couple of times. He actually worked at Partial for a while. From your perspective, did you cause you were there the first year he was at the Browns?

01:17:24.96 – 01:17:35.42

Were you, like, sitting there like this is not going well. Like, I can tell, he's probably not putting in the prep work. Did you, like, have conversations with him about that? Yeah, you know, it's funny.

01:17:35.50 – 01:17:35.98

Everyone, always.

3Speaker 3
01:17:35.98 – 01:17:43.26

Brings that up. And obviously, once the Netflix thing came out, everyone here have watched it. They're like, Dude, I saw you all over that. I'm like, Yeah, I mean, I lived through it.

01:17:43.34 – 01:17:47.94

And I always felt kind of bad for Johnny, There was so much pressure, you know, there was so much hype.

01:17:50.08 – 01:18:03.32

And obviously he was going through a lot of things, he and I never had any problem. I mean, in the building, we were great, I thought he was, he was great in the building. I think, if anything, you know, the Browns kind of knew what was going on and they still thrust this all on him.

01:18:03.42 – 01:18:12.90

You know what I mean? And and clearly, he wasn't prepared, you know he, he kind of jokes about it, like, Yeah, I had watched zero hours of film. I remember, like, when they called me in to say, Hey, we're playing Johnny.

01:18:13.10 – 01:18:38.02

I remember Mike Pedden told me that and I was like, Okay, clearly, like, you know, this decision is being made for you guys and and, you know, for the. And that's what they chose to do. But he and I always, you know, we were, we were fine. Obviously. I was always focused on, you know, trying to prepare the best I could. But I tried to, you know, whatever knowledge I could share with him, I did, and he was always, you know, respectable.

01:18:38.32 – 01:18:48.42

And you know, I think, you know, there's this persona that maybe he felt like he had to live up to. I don't know, but I felt like it was kind of an unfair situation for him to be.

2Speaker 2
01:18:48.42 – 01:19:02.88

Yeah, yeah, did you you ever hear the story about how, how the owner of the Browns was told by a homeless person? To draft Johnny Manziel on draft night? And that's why they took him. When you heard that, were you like, what, what the hell, man? I grew up around here.
